This is a great place for children to play and it's not far to the beach. The children's park is behind the Marina Center. I think this is used to keep children from wandering around or away as the only way to go is to street parking or towards the outdoor courts (that have gated doors). It's a small city park, don't expect it to be immaculate and have all the things a large park would. Again, I like it for it's quaint and quiet atmosphere (yes, even with children). Restrooms are available and are well kept with sinks (but no soap, BYO). There's also a water fountain which even has a dog bowl for your furry friends. The Marina Vista Pickleball group plays here most mornings and offers free lessons to new players twice a week as well as daily open play. Lots of fun and a great way to get out and meet new people.

How have I not given our local park the Yelp treatment yet??!?…read more Lexington was the answer to Oak Knoll being outgrown, we are a city of recreation and competitive sports, and if you build it, we will use it to its fullest potential. Lexington is proof! This park, at its core, is two large sized football/soccer fields that can be divided up for smaller league kid games. One field is natural grass, the other a composite. The entire park is well lit because of the night games that are played there, which makes for an overall inviting and safe experience - and I never see the park empty, it's always in use. Surrounding the fields are a running track that circles the distance of the park, a large playground area, seating for the parents, oh, a large set of bleachers for the FNL and soccer games. A workout area in the back with a circuit style set of arm/leg machines. Pickleball and basketball courts, a general area with covered seating for picnics and gatherings, and a large parking lot area that, although large, can be found filled on busy days. Overall this is a good park and a great addition to our cities lineup. We come here often to do sports or use their other various facilities. :)

5 stars for a nice rubber track!…read more As an active walker/ runner, I am regularly seeking parks with a track. This was a serendipitous find on the way home from work. Features - The park has ample parking, 1 basketball court (which is also used for pickleball), 2 fitness zones with 10+ different workout equipment , park benches, coal pits, soccer field, padded track, and children's play area. It is very well maintained / clean and the biggest bonus is the rubberized track for me. There's also doggy poop bags too, in case you're walking your dog and forget! You can easily find walkers at 7am here which provides a relatively safe exercise environment. The only possible drawbacks I see is - 1) there is minimal shade, and 2) it is right by horse sables (it is next to the horse race track) 3) the track is relatively small (less than 0.5 miles a lap).

The open spaces and colorful areas almost felt like spots made for taking pictures, and they did not cost anything to enjoy, which makes them perfect for teenagers who like hanging out and being creative. It was my first time at Whaley Park, and I did not realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked around. I appreciated how easy it was to relax there without feeling rushed or crowded, even with all the teens playing games, taking photos, and talking with each other. Some parts of the park looked a little older or worn down, which is part of why I am giving it four stars instead of five, but nothing took away from the overall experience. I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped it would. I have only visited Whaley Park once before writing this review, but it ended up being one of the more enjoyable and energetic parks I have been to in a long time. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because they would love the open spaces, the sports areas, the photo spots, and the creative vibe. For us, walking our dog and having a different change of scenery is just perfect us 3. There really isn't much here, just a few benches and a cement road for people to ride their bikes or roller blade right on through, but that's probably why it's so deserted.

The only thing (danger) you need to look out for is overhead and side aggressive rod n' reel "casters" and those who use multiple hooks where it feels like potential hazard and an accident waiting to happen. We use squid as bait and it's resilient to the water and waves. It's good for families and kids, but come early to get a spot and avoid the sun. It's good for maybe 1 hr for kids to inevitably get bored or frustrated, but for adults chillin' almost like playing a round of golf where conversation and relaxing is a big part of a social activity, you can stay for hours, just bring a chair. Also, bring a hat, sunscreen, cold water and snacks. Parking (for free) could be easy if you know where to look, read the signs and are willing to walk. The people there are generally friendly 'tho we did encounter a few territorial grumpy older men, par for the course and not spoilers of a good time for us.
