I was finally able to put my daughter in Deterding Elementary. Mrs. Morganstern was an Angel in disguise. She immediately recognized my daughter frustration and how behind she was in her academics. She met with me and developed a plan for my daughter success. She and other teachers organized an after school tutoring program for kids like my daughter to get that extra help they needed. I have visited several times for extracurricular activities where students performed in the areas of music, history, performing arts, ethnic studies. Not only were the teachers friendly and enthusiastic, they had my nephews fully engaged in the programs and proud to have us there to see their accomplishments. I also think the parents of the students in this school deserve a lot credit as they are also very engaged and donate their time and energy in making their children's activities and field trips above and beyond. The district hires and retains inexperienced, rude, unmotivated, privileged teachers set in their ways, racist staff, and have discriminatory practices. I am a parent of 4 students who attended schools in the district since 2008 and it has only gotten worse. My youngest is at Rio Americano and the culture is toxic and dysfunctional. His counselor Sydnee Butcher needs training and support as an academic guidance counselor. Doesn't surprise me being trained by Elizabeth Irwin. When Sydnee first appeared last year, she was very vocal about change and supporting students. She stated she once was a student there and her experience there allowed her to identify areas of improvement. My experience with her is that is far from the truth. Sydnee doesn't perform any research nor does she fact check. She just blindly regurgitates what Elizabeth feeds her. My son is in a unique position and has aspirations for which he has set goals. While trying to reach those goals, Sydnee and Elizabeth have only worked to hold him back with hard stops. They are not helpful at all. You would think your academic guidance counselor wants students to succeed and instead of delivering hard stops, they will use their discretion (they have levels of discretion) to find ways and create opportunities to support students success. If you are able to get your children into a different district. Please do so. You will not regret it. If you are not able, please listen to your children, the teachers and staff lack integrity.

If you are a person of color you need to avoid this establishment at all cost! Holly Olsen, the owner, has made my experience at El Rancho HELL. I feel me and my child have been racially discriminated against and he had only been going there 5 months. She has blamed my child for being aggressive and breaking things and singling him out for this proposed behavior. She has never failed to be rude towards me even when I've tried to let things go in the past. I feel she is not a good educator and is not trained enough working with children or parents. In my experience, she has just blamed my toddler for his behavior and failed to take acknowledgement when I called her out on her behavior. The school also does not help with potty training like they say. I paid an extra $150 and my kid was frequently left with a full pull up nearly every time I picked him up. I feel she has lied on multiple occasions about my son's behavior and my behavior stating herself that I threatened the school and had erratic behavior. I feel as though this woman falsely escalated this situation and me in a negative light and I will be pursuing a complaint with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education regarding this matter. Management really needs improvement.
