1st time going to this event & it was lots of fun!…read more -1 start for last minute rule change: such a problem for people who don't drive their car to this event to be denied entry due to a LAST MINUTE rule change. . . Pros: - Food trucks - 2 for $10 wine served in collectible plastic wine glasses - indoor bathrooms in the AA Center - as a female I avoid porta-potties - AA center open for people to sit down & watch the performers on the big screen *great way to warm up & get away from the crowds for a bit* - live performers - fireworks lasted a long time & were so close - I've been to SF for NYE & I have to say Dallas, you win hands down on you're NYE fireworks display! Con: I agree with H.T.'s review that it was horrible that event organizers changed rules last minute. The website said backpacks were allowed, but were refusing to let my BF inside. Security said they received a paper the day of the event with rules changes for what people are allowed to bring. Security said his backpack was large and wasn't allowed in! Huh?!? It's a regular sized backpack? Mini backpacks went out in the 90s!! We took the TRE train and didn't have a car to place my BF's backpack anywhere. Finally convinced them to let us inside due to the unfair changing of rules hours before the event! **Hey organizers if you're going to change the rules, do so days in advance, not hours before the event!** TIP - Take public transportation! There's so many people that if you drive you'll need to rush out as the fireworks start or risk getting stuck in traffic.

It seemed like twice as many people this year than in 2010. Some of the pet peeves I had include: -Open mouth sneezers and coughers, which were plenty this day. -Food trucks were not very creative and missing some of their best options. -It may just be me, but once the fireworks show started, people wanted to get out as quickly as possible. I had to keep looking away to avoid people from running into me as I stared up in the sky. 10 minutes, that is all I ask. You aren't getting out of there anyway with all the traffic in the first place, so enjoy the show. -Too many people brought their babies in strollers. It's called sacrifice until they are old enough. Either way, I will be back for the food trucks next year, the music, and then I will walk home and watch the show on t.v.

We were unprepared. We waited in our car in line for almost three ours to get to the starting point. Three hours! We were out of snack within 20 minutes and we hadn't had dinner yet so I was really about to lose it. Also we were almost on E. If you have a car you can deck out in Halloween go for it. Most ppl here had lights and music and even inflatables in their cars. That part was a little entertaining to see the passing cars how they go all out, I mean all out!! Okay now to what this is. This is basically a campsite park. And the people that are staying there decorate their sites. But this isn't just some twinkly lights and spider web, nooooooo. These people are creative. Some even come up to scare the people in the cars oh it is so fun. I love to see their individual styles come together in such a fun way. The drive through the displays doesn't take very long. Actually it's pretty quick. The majority of your time there will be in line waiting to get to the campsite areas. So gas up, take plenty of things to entertain your kids in the car.. take snacks maybe a meal. I'd take wipes bc there's mostly port- a potties . Once you get in, there is a restroom but I heard that's way more scary than the Halloween stuff.. yikes! The website did say not trailers with the hayride seats but I did see people loaded up in the beds of pickup trucks, the trailers with ppl on hay bales, even golf carts many golf carts.

It was lots of junky crafts and a few (non-crowded) food stalls - All packed together in an alley for only about 4 blocks. I'm following your guidelines!), I was determined to make every single event. Sadly, I failed at my mission. But I still had a great time! Here are a few tips to make sure you get the most out of the weekend: - Arrive early to the wine stroll on Friday night, drink a bit, then leave. It gets packed and by mid-event, some vendors will start running out of wine. I overheard that they accidentally oversold this event, but the lines and crowds were out of control. - We missed the after-pARTy at Gables 17 due to poor planning. Le sigh. Be sure and double check (heck, even TRIPLE check!) the times on the website to make sure you arrive on time. - If you can only make one event, make sure it's the Reserve Tasting. The selection is impeccable, the lines are short and the crowd is small. It's a dressier and classier event for those who really enjoy wine to make the most of it. It was by far my favorite event all weekend. - The International Grand Tasting is a cattle call with massive crowds. However, they do a great job and keeping it as organized as possible. Either get there early to get in line, or make buddies with a sponsor so you can jump ahead. Once inside, hit the tables/booths in the back where no one is; you'll get the best food and drinks back there anyway. Whatever you do, just be patient. It's a popular event that keeps growing, and even with the crowds, I plan on going back next year!

It's a gigantic spread which is half wine, beer, and liquor so you won't have to leave thirsty or sober. The other half is food samples from various high-end restaurants. If you rush through the whole thing you might be able to visit every station, but I'd set some priorities because the best ones will run out before the end. Also, it's very difficult to try the food whilst holding a glass of wine or beer. A tray with a drink holder would have been a welcome addition. Highlights: - D Magazine cover photo. - Carrot cake in a shots glass. - Trying sweetbreads for the first time. (loved 'em!) - Pork belly at the culinary institute. It was definitely a super fun and cool experience, but I don't think I'd pay the full price ($85-$100) to do it again. But if another discount ticket pops up in the future, I'm so there! Tip: Show up 20-30min early to get in line for admission. Or just show up 20-30min late and walk right in.

Instead, they had concession booths this time around. Also, they lost the snow rink, which was real fun and replaced them with free Santa photo-op and kid's crafts activity. They also lost a great light show. They projected lights onto big buildings a couple years ago and made it a dynamic show. This year, they just projected a static logo onto the huge buildings. Having said all that, the main activities stayed the same, which was free give-aways of blinking twinkling Reliant santa hats, fireworks, and concert.
