I booked through Booking.com and realized that there is the Mareta Beach Bed and Breakfast and the Mareta Beach House next door which might cause confusion for some since they are next door, but Mareta Beach Boutique Bed and Breakfast is right on the corner off of the round about.
So the hotel was completed in 2008, and if you know your history about the EU financial crisis ,, this property was probably built with some of that P.I.G.S money. The property is definitely showing some wear and tear but when you walk into the bright airy lobby you wouldn't think that it was built that many years ago.
Amenities wise there is no concierge, bellman, or valet, but the front desk clerk was very professional, cordial, and more than happy to give out suggestions on where to dine or where to catch the best sunsets. BTW, the property is just a couple of blocks up from Mareta Beach.
I reserved a partial ocean view room, and both windows face the ocean so I still got an ocean view without having to pay a premium. Or since the Ocean is right down the street from the hotel you can get a regular room and just walk outside of the hotel or go out on the public balcony for an ocean view. The room was a decent size but lacked luggage space and the bathroom had only one towel rack. If you travel a lot, then you understand why you need space for your bags and hang bathing suits. The bed was comfy and although we didn't use it there is a small LCD TV. The bathroom is pretty large and two people can easily move about.
There is a cramped elevator that could fit maybe 3 Americans but most people take the stairs, but comes in handy when you need to get your luggage to the third floor or you are too hungover to get to the basement Breakfast Buffet. Yes there is an awesome continental buffet with fresh baked goods, and local items like fruit and meats. The buffet dining room is pretty large so even if the hotel is full, you can always find a table. The breakfast staff works really hard to keep everything stocked, but you got to remember that you are in a beach town and not in Manhattan.
If I ever go on a surf trip to Sagres again I would probably stay at the Mareta Beach Boutique Bed and Breakfast hotel due to its central location, walking distance, near shops, restaurants, and beaches again. read more
