Would you trade one week at a Hawaii timeshare for a New Orleans timeshare?
Two hundred year old gated complex of 11 apartment units, located in a quiet residental area of the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Booked a timeshare using our Hilton Grand Vacation points through RCI.
The office is closed on Tuesday and Sunday, and on other days closes at 230pm, too late for flights from the west coast. Have to call in a few days early to get the combination code for the front gate and also for the unit in which you are staying. Manual code, not electronic, like opening a padlock on the door. Have to walk through a front gate, garden, past a pool to reach our unit.
We got an upstairs unit. At least 15 steps to the top with no landing in between. You know who had to carry both mine and wife's luggage up the stairs. No elevator. If you don't like stairs, then good luck getting a downstairs unit.
Long veranda with chairs and dining table at the top of the stairs, overlooking a small communal pool, which nobody used during our stay in November 2023. The pump is always broken.
Room smells musty, like old mold growing. Windows small and some are painted shut. Living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen with full sized refrigerator, oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, double sink. Limited number of available electrical outlets.
Full size bed barely fit inside room, with outward opening bathroom door just fitting against the bed.
Vanity sink no more than 18" across, with no place to put toiletries except on shelves over the toilet. Wife once knocked my floss into the toilet, but said it was OK to use as she just flushed the toilet. Phone booth sized shower. I've seen larger bathrooms in Europe, land of tiny bathrooms.
Flat screen TV in living room. Wifi weak, as to be expected in a brick building. You can get better reception on the veranda, but no electrical outlet. Multiple restaurants and grocery store within1 block.
They have a laundry shack with free washer and dryer, but not available on house cleaning days.
No parking on premises. 2 hour street parking 7am-7pm. Owners have a designated spot a few blocks away. All others have to park in public lots with overnight parking at least a quarter mile away.
Took Uber to airport, and veteran Uber driver said she had never been here before.
They kick you out at 11am. We had a late flight and had to leave our luggage outside in the garden in the rain, as no place in the office to store luggage. We took all of our valuables out before leaving for lunch.
You can make reservation two years in advance. More than one person arrived a year early. read more
