My...gosh. What an insanely condescending human being. Do NOT go if you intend to have someone who…read morewill listen to your story, or has any compassion for the patient. There is a difference between "tough love" and "why did I waste my money being talked down to. I get it- he's been in the field a while and can do whatever he wants. I know in 2026 there are a lot of sycophant "therapists" looking to make a quick buck. I know "therapy speak" from non experts is a problem. Question- would you go to a personal trainer who talks down to you the entire time? If your answer is "no," steer VERY clear of Dr. Goonan.

Dr Goonan...he is an alpha male who seems to really like the sound of his own voice. While he did offer some suggestions that were helpful, he treated me like a child. I felt really uncomfortable. Dictated to. I would ask a question and he would go off on a tangent about something else and never give me an answer. No matter what I said, there was no support, it was always how I could do better or what I did wrong. He seemed to have a very narrow scope of what is "right" and what is "wrong". Just the way he sits high up in a chair feet over where you sit sets the scene. It wasn't about a therapeutic relationship, it was about imparting his ideas onto you to go forth and perfect. I forced myself to go to several sessions accusing myself of resistance. Until finally I realized...its him not me. Dr Goonan might be the right therapist for people looking for dictation instead of connection. Rules instead of collaboration. It wasn't a total loss. I learned some new skills that were helpful. But beyond that, he was not for me...at all.

I'd give them 0 stars if I could. I scheduled an appointment, payed a deposit, came across town and…read moreshowed up early to fill out all paperwork. When my appointment time came the reception said the doctor had to go and couldn't see me today and could I reschedule. Ridiculous. They obviously don't value there patients time.

He will fully admit that he still does not have a diagnosis for me after 2 years, and has tried me on several different medications, alternately labeling me "bi-polar," which I am not, and an "alcoholic", which I also am not and which is what led my husband to disliking him so much (I used to drink 2 drinks a week and now I don't even drink at all). Half of what he says I have no idea where he is going with it and it confuses me, and I think for me, he has only been about 15% helpful, and that has mostly been in writing prescriptions to help my anxiety that I had already known about and was taking before I even began to see him. To be honest, if it weren't for his WONDERFUL office staff that is so pleasant and caring and efficient, I probably would never go back. I know he is a well respected doctor in town, but he has never been suited very well to me. I think he just doesn't understand me, or maybe just young women. He seems to be very sought after and his staff can usually fit me in for emergencies, and that combined with me not knowing where else to turn, has had me going back for two years now.

Dr. Scurria is an excellent physician. Her involvement in MDVIP is a plus. When I first met her…read more(a meet and greet with no charge), I was very impressed with her know, edge and manner. For my husband and I (both in our 70s), easy access to our doctor and quick results from tests are very important. I fact, I was able to reach her when I was out of the country for her advice. We also were able to get her guidance during an ER visit. She stayed involved throughout and made referrals for specialist followup. It would have been far worse without her help. We have both had many different physicians and medical experiences. She is far superior to our last physicians. And we know we can count on her to be there for us.

I have just found this review on Dr. Scurria. First, I am retired and on a very limited budget, but…read moreI find the $1,500 yearly fee charged to belong to the MDVIP program well worth the cost. Second, I have been a patient of Dr. Scurria's for over twenty years and have always found her to be a responsible, knowledgeable and caring physician. Dr. Scurria was my physician before she joined the MDVIP program and despite being inundated with many patients, she has always taken the time to listen when I needed her medical advice and, she gives me sound advice. She has had a sign in her office which read (paraphrasing) "you may have to wait but you will have my undivided attention when I see you". If I need a specialist she always refers me to the best medical provider for a particular malady. I do not know her financial history, but I do know she has had patients who did not pay their bills. I would overhear patients in the waiting room discussing this among themselves. In addition, she has always maintained an office of very professional assistants, which must cost her dearly. I know she must have been under tremendous stress from seeing so many patients and having a huge financial responsibility. Joining the MDVIP program has made it possible for her to have less on her plate and thus help to keep her healthy and hopefully around for a long time. I will continue to be her patient for as long as she continues to practice and for as long as she can put up with me. When she joined MDVIP I was heartbroken. I thought I could not afford the program and I would have to give up my patient doctor relationship with Dr. Scurria, however, when weighing the pros and cons of having or not having her as my doctor, I decided it would cost me far more to lose her than the $1500 MDVIP fee. In addition, MDVIP worked with me to pay the fee in installments. A plan offered to all patients. Perhaps Jay D. really cannot afford the fee; I certainly understand that, however, to belittle a doctor for trying to improve their own situation so that they can offer their patients a healthier and less stressed physician, one who is willing to go the extra mile for her patients is either, someone who is unfamiliar with the everyday working life of a family practitioner or, someone who is just blatantly unkind. Of course you can find a doctor who does not belong to the MDVIP program but, you will not find a better more caring physician than Dr. Scurria.
