I came here on a Saturday morning. I prefer these kind of old school markets instead of the new food halls that have started opening. The locals come here and it's definitely not touristy. The produce vendors are here early at 6:00 AM but the food stands don't open until at least 8:00 AM. There's also flowers, clothing, baked goods, fishmongers, cheesemongers, and butchers. I wish I could eat seafood in the morning since the Cap Ferret oysters did look good. Instead, I went to the crepe stand. My friend and I ordered a citron crepe and a sausage galette. The crepe and galette were made to order and delicious. The savory sausage galette had a creamy mustard sauce with fresh chives so it was amazing. I wish I could eat more (such problems I have) so I'll definitely have to come back! read more

This is nice true city market....it has all the things you want, fresh produce, fresh flowers, fruits, baked goods, prepared foods, restaurants, fisheries, meat counters and clothing....all under one roof. They open very early like 6-7 am and they close around 1:30-2pm most days, but it is a nice place to get a feel of the Bordeaux region and its bounty of products. Check it out, not too far from the old city. The pictures show how nice the selection of products are here...and it's mostly locals shopping, not a tourist trap. read more

Visit early in the morning to see a great selection of fruits and vegetables, seafood, local breads, cheeses and have fresh coffee while walking around (the cafe will let you walk with their mug) I bought the local strawberries -expensive but amazing. And a canalle to take on my train ride to Paris. The French thyme was so fragrant! Had to buy some. People are friendly but take your French phrasebook with you. read more

I came with the intention to just browse like a tourist. I did have my shopping bag, so I began with the thought... "okay maybe just a little hunk of cheese and a baguette for a noon time snack". 95 minutes later I walked back to my apartment with 2 bottles of wine, a barquette of serrano ham, a duck saucisson, 3 different cheeses, peaches, nectarines, a box of strawberries, a small chocolate cake, a bee hive pastry, a biologique ble complet baguette, some terrine..... And maybe I forgot something while typing this. The bag weighed over 8 kg on the 1.5 km walk home with the July afternoon temperature of 38 degrees. So the original plan for an easy afternoon snack evolved into a grand scale feast. Of course this market is not the largest in all Europe, it"s actually quite humble in size and appearance. Street vendors spill out over the exterior of the building, looks like Bordeaux needs a bigger market. I love this market because it feels old, authentic, honest, human, and proud. Oh yeah, all the food I purchased was top notch delicious. Experiences like this make me wish that I was European and not Californian. read more

A fun place to go if you want to cook at your Airbnb or eat lunch at the booths. We went twice and first time we went all stalls were open, the next time we went more than half we're closed, not sure why... we bought our picnics goodies and found a great spot along the river to enjoy. We also bought sausages and pesto for dinner. Such a fun way to enjoy local produce. read more

Lovely market in Bordeaux, near transportation, all reasonable prices. Came in here looking to make a picnic for an adventure and it had everything we need. All of the shop owners are honest and hard working people. I unfortunately have a difficult time understanding dollar amounts in French and they were honest to help me pay the right amount and gave correct change. read more

This open air market is simply magical! All the smells, flavors, colors.. Fruits and veggies are everywhere and they are delicious and a wayyyy cheaper than in a grocery shop! Everything's fresh and all the farmers are nice and welcoming. read more

The Marché des Capucins is an awesome market that is a great window into what the local people are buying and eating. It was a nice experience to see all of the local fresh fruits and vegetables, stacks of herbs, fresh seafood, and meats that we maybe would not normally see in a market back home, like dressed rabbits. The market is not terribly large, but it also houses a few small restaurants, cafe, and bar. This is a good place to take an hour long pit stop to grab a bite to eat in-between visiting all of the sights of Bordeaux. read more
