Such an adorable market with beautiful flowers of all kinds and fresh fruit and produce. The apricots and strawberries we had were sweet and fresh. It is well located and you will be surrounded by food in Old City as well. Not sure how the prices compare to other places but it was more for the experience. We did a food tour through Old City and stopped here for fruit and a charcuterie/cheese experience, followed by socca and socca beer at Chez Theresa. read more

Beautiful open market in Old Town Nice. So lovely to be able to stroll through the historic flower market enjoying the wonderful colors, fragrant flowers and delicious treats. Since it was established in 1897, it has been an integral market for locals and tourists. Russian Czar, Nicholas II, loved this market so much that he would buy flowers and transport them by train for a market in St. Petersburg two days later. Today, the market is filled with stalls of venders with fragrant bouquets, soaps made from lavender from Provence and trees with hibiscus blossoms. Bring a bag to fill with fresh fruits and vegetables. The donut peaches were so sweet. Cookies and Turkish delight are sold by the kilo. Or order a cannoli filled with pistachio or nocciola (hazelnut) cream. Great place to pick up a sweet treat or a souvenir made locally. read more

Not to be missed! While there ARE lovely swaths of fresh flowers to be found here at the "market of flowers" there are also scores of other wonderful things. Local artisan products, meats, cheeses, fruits, veg, candles, fedoras, fish, oysters, and on and on and on. It's a bustling market, but at the speed of the South of France -- so deliciously enjoyable. It runs daily until around 1pm (except Mondays). If you are visiting, do plan accordingly. It's also nice to grab a lunch or a glass of wine or coffee and people watch the stream of non-stop (yet never chaotic) revelers. Much love, Marché, much love. read more

A gorgeous market in the old town of Nice. As far as I am aware it is open every day during the week including Saturday. You might need to check about opening on Monday as many places in and around the French Riviera are closed on Sundays and Mondays. It's open early and most of the shops close by 1:30pm so get there early if you want to check it out. Around 12:30 today many of them were already packing up. It's not as big as it seems. It's much smaller than the Viktualienmarkt in Munich or, many other markets however, it is very beautiful as colourful. There are numerous stalls selling flowers, fruits, veg, spices, soaps, local specialties, cheese, candied fruit, meat and a bit further away a few fish mongers. There are also other types of things sold at the market. I love markets and loved this one. It's well worth a visit when in town. read more

This market was a lifesaver for us this past week in Nice! My husband and I are vegetarian (no fish either), which made dining in the south of France particularly challenging. After 2 Indian meals and too much bread & cheese, we decided to visit the market and make our own veggie dishes in our rented apartment. Our french is limited and it was slightly intimidating jumping in there with the locals to choose fruits & vegetables, but the local vendors were helpful and showed us the way. Grab a metal pail or basket (depends on the vendor) and fill it up with whatever you want. Just be careful to choose from only one vendor at a time... There aren't clear dividers between the produce, so pay attention! They weigh and ring everything up quickly and bag everything as well. I was a bit surprised to see that they use all plastic bags (no one seemed to bring their own reusable), but that might be due to the amount of tourists? We got enough veggies for 2 big dinners for 10 euros (!!) and fruit: 2 giant mangoes, a bunch of bananas and 2 nectarines, for an additional 10€. Oh, and aside from the produce, there is an impressive amount of gorgeous flowers, spices, cheese, dips/spreads, etc to explore as well. If you're anywhere near Nice Tuesday - Sunday mornings (until about 1p), it's absolutely worth a visit! (*Mondays are antiques only.) read more

A really beautiful market at the heart of the old town. Old buildings painted in the usual ochres surround a shady flower and plant market. In the evenings the stalls are replaced by tables and chairs from the surrounding restaurants and bars. A beautiful spot! read more

Lovely market, easy to find! My family visited the flower market on a Sunday morning in early September 2014. I was looking forward to buying socca, having a cappucino and purchasing sweets. We arrived mid-morning and the market was packed. The crowds weren't really a problem or concern, I think it's pretty standard that the flower market will be crowded. We were warned about pick pockets, and that they may be well-dressed people who approach in pairs and offer help of some sort. We encountered nothing like that. It was the beginning of our first full day in Nice, and we were just getting accustomed to greeting every one we meet. One of the first vendors we encountered ignored us because we did not say bonjour, but thankfully we found other vendors who were friendly and helpful. We purchased socca (kind of plain, very fresh and hot), marzipan (the vendor was kind, his marzipan products were beautifully made), souvenir beverage coasters, soap, lavender honey, ceramic pieces, and candied fruit. The honey vendors were a husband and wife, the wife spoke excellent english and taught me a few french words and told me about their business. They sell honey and jam. We came to the market to shop, and stayed for more than an hour. There are multiple vendors selling the same products, you can compare prices between them, but I wouldn't assume (like we did) that you'll find a cheaper price somewhere else. If you want it, buy it. I've seen other reviews that describe this market as expensive, but markets in Arles and Antibes sold similar products at a more expensive price. The mid-morning sun became too much and my father purchased a hat. This was the one item we negotiated for, and the vendor lowered his price and gave my father some helpful fashion advice. We did see vendors become impatient with the tourists, one woman resorted to yelling at a pair of bewildered German tourists who were trying to figure out how an herb grinder worked. We stopped for a cappuccino, to rest in the shade and people-watch. I recommend making a visit to the flower market when you're in Nice. Say bonjour, bring your hat, don't mind the crowds! read more

Great market! The flowers are amazing and there is great food and knick knacks to be had here. I was on a hunt for some spices and some other small gifts to bring home and this place delivered, with a few booths to avoid that seemed to be junk and not all necessarily made local type items. But, if you see folks lining up at the pastry place in the market, don't be afraid to jump in that line! We had some croissants and a quiche from there that knocked our socks off! read more
