Friendly neighbourhood grocery store, with emphasis on Italian and Asian ingredients. Today I found…read moregai lan (Chinese broccoli) and in the summer there's usually rapini (Italian broccoli). They have 99c baguette (fresh daily) and nice white corn tortillas, too.
Pistilli always has the basics (for us, that includes soy milk), good prices on produce, and good-quality meat and fish. If you don't see what you're looking for at the butcher's counter, just ask.
As with most of the smaller (and some of the larger) grocery stores in Montreal, much of the produce is shrink-wrapped and/or on styrofoam trays. I understand that helps keep food fresh longer, reducing wasted food, but I would prefer less plastic. My personal Montreal pet peeve, and Pistilli is not the worst offender in this area.
All in all, I'm glad that this store is close to home. One or both of us is there every week.
