Moses and Wanda Myers forever changed my life…read more I had been dealing with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts for most of my life. It was very difficult for me to admit I had a mental health illness. In my early 20's I finally sought to get help. At the time I was working retail and going to school, so my schedule only allowed for a meeting on Saturday in the morning. When I called a number of therapist's who accepted my insurance and told them my scheduling problem I was pretty much met with silence or well you're shit out of luck my friend. (Mind you I wasn't exactly in the best state of mind when I called, and was clearly in between sobs.) I looked at my list and there was a practice called "M&M Consultants." The chubby girl that I am so that M&M and was like, I gotta call, the name is too cute! Thank god for my love of food. When I did a woman picked up whom I instantly felt at ease with. Imagine a sunny autumn day filled with warmth, that was Wanda. We tried to set up an appointment but there weren't any openings. I explained to her my scheduling conflict. When Wanda told me, "Don't hang up.We're gonna work this out. We're gonna get your some help." To this day it still makes me cry. Wanda would NOT let me get off the phone til I got an appointment nailed down and I got some help. The amount of comfort and relief I felt in that moment, I can't even say. The sense of gratitude I feel til this day, I can't even begin to describe. I saw Wanda and therapy was hard. I was dating someone at the time and Wanda would gently show me the giant Swiss cheese holes in the relationship, but it was hard for me to accept. We'd have joint sessions Wanda and Moe and me and the empty jar of mayonnaise, but it took for him to dump me then proceed to humiliate and belittle me for months on end for me to see him as the giant turd he truly was. During this time Wanda passed and I still miss her. I started seeing Moe and bless him because all I talked about was the turd I dated. Moe has all the patience in the world to have dealt with that. And eventually we started talking about my depression, things that led to it, things that actually mattered. And I started making progress, I started getting my life back. It was hard but Moe never gave up on me. To this day he still listens to me and helps me keep my metal health in tip top shape. Moe is the epitome of cool. He has been kind, patient, funny, intelligent, calls me out when I'm felling sorry for myself, reminds me not to be too hard on myself, and applauds my accomplishments. None of that is easy to do. But somehow he does it, effortlessly. I am forever grateful to Wanda and Moses Myers. My review doesn't even begin to do them justice.

I had been receiving therapy through Family Healing Center from 2019 until 2023. However, my therapist, who I had been seeing during this period, notified me of his departure from the practice this past summer. Initially, I had in-person sessions until the pandemic forced a transition to Zoom sessions. During the transition to Zoom sessions, I inquired about handling my co-pays, as I used to pay $20 during in-person visits. I was told "not to worry about it", and throughout my Zoom sessions from March 2020 to July 2023, I NEVER received any requests for co-payment. This summer, my therapist informed me of his departure and advised me to inform the front desk that I would no longer be a client of Family Healing Center if I wished to continue therapy with him. Upon calling, I was informed that I had a balance of over $1,500, which was surprising since I had not received any communication about the co-pays despite being told not to worry about it. After some discussion, I paid an amount I could afford and set up a payment plan. Due to the stress of moving and learning about my sister's Stage 4 cancer diagnosis in August, I forgot to make the monthly payments. About 30 minutes ago, I received a call from "Malik Carey" regarding my outstanding balance. His tone was defensive, and he began interrogating me about the unpaid balance. When I explained that I had forgotten but will make a payment on Monday, he continued to lecture me on insurance and expressed his confusion about why I hadn't paid. When I disclosed that I had just buried my sister two weeks ago, he changed his tone, stating that I should have told him that in the beginning, stated they are a "Christian" organization and don't want to send African American people to collections. I expressed my disappointment in his inconsiderate and inappropriate tone, highlighting the importance of respect, especially in a business providing therapy services. I emphasized that people may be going through difficult times, and it is crucial to approach them with empathy, especially in a "Christian" organization. This review aims to inform prospective clients and educate the owner on the importance of approaching individuals with empathy and respect, particularly in a therapeutic setting.
