Do not use this doctor. Dr. Marc Winter, performed a robotic myomectomy, (a minimally invasive surgery to remove uterine fibroids). The surgery took longer than expected, and Dr. Winter informed my husband that he had found and removed numerous fibroid-like cells from my uterine lining. At the time, we were relieved, but months passed without any sign of a menstrual cycle. I returned to Dr. Potter at HRC Fertility, where he had to perform a procedure to see what had happened. When I woke up, I was devastated to learn that my entire uterine lining had been scarred. They gave me less than a 5% chance of getting pregnant. Dr. Winter scared up my entire lining which caused me not to be able to get pregnant. I am still in the IVF/surrogacy process with hundreds of thousands of dollars due to his procedure. Don't listen to anyone who says you need to remove fibroids. read more

Cons: examines me without a female nurse present. Says he wants to see how big my fibroids are without reading my ultrasound or CT scan results. He pressed down very hard on my around my stomach and on top of my stomach when I had a huge tumor in my abdominal cavity. He does this to see if you could do minimally invasive surgery to remove it. He doesn't even have to press down this hard to crush my other organs. the other OB/GYN was gentle. He is not trained to remove extremely large fibroids without giving you a vertical incision. Even then, he doesn't have as much experience as other specialists in San Diego to remove fibroids by open myomectomy. He quoted me the wrong price for the surgery. He also was very rude and tried to yell at me just for asking a question about vertical incision. He pretended that he was trying to be safe. He was trying to hide the fact that he was not very experienced. I went with an experienced surgeon at UCSD and she was able to remove my extremely large fibroid and she did not use a vertical incision. No blood transfusion either. I went home the next day after surgery. You will need someone to help you and take care of you after the surgery because you will be very sleepy and tired from taking the medicine from the hospital. You will need to eat a high protein, diet drink, lots of liquid and eat fiber, so you will not have constipation. I also took iron supplements with orange juice and it helped me feel better. It will take you about nine months to feel good, but it will take longer for all your nerves to regenerate. If you have smaller fibroids, I recommend looking into U FE or uterine fibroid embolization. If you can feel your fibroid and it's really big, asked to get an MRI so you can determine if you qualify for minimally invasive laparotomy or a myomectomy (extremely large fibroids). read more

After being told by 2 other surgeons that there would be no way to remove my huge fibroids unless I had a traditional hysterectomy with a big incision, I went to Dr. Winter. I had heard amazing things about him and knew that if anyone would be able to do my surgery without abdominal incision, it would be him. I recently had surgery due to my uterus having prolapsed which then pushed my bladder down as well, so this necessitated Dr Winter to do a hysterectomy as well as lift my bladder. From the initial consultation, through the surgery and post op I found him to be very informative and concerned for the best treatment options for me. Not only is he cutting edge in knowing the latest and best procedures and general information, he sees his patients as a whole person and not just by their reproductive organs, which I feel is extremely important. He has advised me on matters such as the best form of thyroid medication and encouraged me to test and supplement vitamin D3. My favorite thing about him is that there is a level of comfortability which results in a woman feeling no embarrassment about being examined or discussing personal matters. Well I found out I was pregnant at the end of October 2011. I have been going to the GP for the annual exams so I needed a reference to an OBGYN for this matter. I read a lot of information about good OB's int he area and my doctor recommended Dr. Winter as well. Well, unfortunately for me I never made it to my first official OB appointment because I miscarried in mid November 2011. Anyway, the reason for the review is that i still had to see Dr. Winter for my follow up to the tragic incident. He may be a good doctor when you are pregnant or for regular exams but he and his staff (other than Sue his nurse whom I only spoke to on the phone, she was great) were extremely tactless when it came to dealing with my situation. I had to repear twice in a crowded waiting room that I was there because I had miscarried NOT for my annual exam. I was put in the exam room where slides of ultrasounds and happy pregnant women flashed across the computer screen. Finally and the kicker for Dr. Winter not being my future doctor was that when he was reviewing all my information he asked if my significant other and I had been planning on becoming pregnant, we had no and I told him no it was a big surprise and his response to that was well maybe this isn't such a bad thing then. Not the right thing to say to a person in a deep point of emotional and physical grief. Like I said I have no other expierence with this doctor and from what I read he seems to be wonderful, but hope your pregnancy doesn't end or you may be facing a lack of human compassion! read more

I really adore Dr. WInters. I had horrible fibroids, one very large one in a very dangerous position and was anemic from severe bleeding. I went to several specialists, all allegedly top rated doctors and each one presented terrible options for me. One went so far as prescribing me daily medication for a month that was essentially equivalent to taking a plan b pill daily. They all were afraid of surgery and high risks of death and severing my intestines and massive blood loss. Dr Winter never wavered, and was extremely confident from the minute I met him. He went right into surgery even doing the minimally invasive robotic surgery and I left the hospital the next morning and was actively running and playing tennis within 10 days. I even flew out to visit my daughter in NY for parents weekend 4 days later. I've never felt better, I got my life back and no more anemia or bleeding out which for anyone that has experienced such a thing it can truly effect your daily life functioning. The only downside, is dealing with the office staff. Its a nightmare trying to get appointments and keep the ones you have without them cancelling them, and they will mess up paperwork and insurance billing and literally do not care when they are wrong nor do they accept responsibility or fix the problems. So for me my problems were serious enough that I realize its not Dr Winters doing the problems its his administration and I work with it. For my daughter, she gave up on the Orange Coast Medical Group and found a smaller practice that was more organized and able to give her appointments and treat her personably when she arrived at their office. If you can survive the Orange Coast Medical Group office staff and just focus on the amazing Dr. Winters he is lifesaving. read more

Dr. Marc Winter is absolutely amazing! He was referred to me by my ob/gyn Dr. Barry May. I met with him for the first time in April and he made me feel so comfortable and put me right at ease. I had a hysterectomy on 8/2 at Saddleback Memorial & just had my post-op follow up appointment today 8/15). He went in through my stomach robotically and it was the best decision. This was by far the easiest surgery I have ever been through (and I have been through a lot). Recovery has been quick and painless. It will be a year in August since Dr. Marc Winter removed my debilitating fibroids, which had grown to the size of a five month fetus. I did a ton of research, as every doctor I saw before finding Dr. Winter said the only solution was a hysterectomy, which just felt so extreme. The uterus is a major part of the women's endocrine system and it just seemed very aggressive to remove such a large part of what makes me a woman. When I finally found Dr. Winter after a year of researching, I had pretty much gotten to the point where the fibroids had grown so large that he did not promise he would be able to remove them all with one surgery. We agreed that he would do the best he could do, but would not want to go longer than 5 hours with me under anesthesia. Long story short...he was able to remove all of my fibroids and although it took almost the entire five hours, I came out of surgery with no complications and have healed with minimal scaring and feel like a completely different person. Dr. Winter truly changed my life and I will forever be grateful that I was able to keep all of my body parts and suffer from none of the side effects of having a hysterectomy. Not only is Dr. Winter an excellent t surgeon, but he has an amazing bed side manner and we spoke several times over the phone to discuss my concerns. My only regret is that it took so long for me to find him! But hopefully this post will help other women suffering from fibroids find him so they can get their life back as well! read more

This doctor completely ruined my life--him and that intuitive surgical robot he uses. I see other women post on here. I believe they are paid posters. This doctor seen me on June 11 2013 and had my uterus out by June 26th 2013. He did not even wait the 30 required days. The consent forms say it was an elective surgery---he told me my uterus had to come out or I would die---what he says verbally does not match what is on his forms. And this doctor lies and lies and lies and lies. Told my husband that I was fine right after surgery--I almost died. Four years later---here I am--totally disabled. And he told me I was in the 3% of his mistakes--so that is okay. And his nurse said they were trying to meet intuitive's sales quotas. Also--he said I could have cancer and would not know until after surgery. This was a lie too. He used scare tactics. There were intuitive sales associates in my surgery--now this is tricky--because consent forms hint at this but do not disclose this. Stay away from those doctor. I am writing this review that I should have written 13 years ago when I got pregnant after he performed a tubal ligation after my 3rd child. NO it wasn't a tubal pregnancy. I specifically decided to have my 3rd child at Saddleback because at Mission they wouldn't perform a tubal ligation after childbirth and we didn't want any more children. Needless to say he wasn't there to deliver my baby but he did perform the tubal. He was several hours late in doing so because of another patient or at least that's what I was told. During the procedure I actually woke up in the middle of it. I said, "Am I supposed to be awake?", and then they must of given me more stuff to knock me out. Two years later I end up pregnant. They stuck me in a room with a bunch of other pregnant ladies all excited about having a baby. Pretty insensitive if you ask me. After he realized the tubal ligation was an epic failure on his part he apologized, but big deal now I was faced with a horrible decision of what to do. A week later I had a very painful and emotional miscarriage. I have always wondered what would have happened if I had pursued a malpractice suit. But I am not the sue happy type. This has scarred me deeply. Who cares about all of his awards? He screwed up big time and didn't do anything to make it better but say Im sorry. I'm sorry too that I didn't write this sooner to protect another person from what I had to endure. I often wonder if they all panicked when I woke up during the procedure and that's when everything got screwed up. In any event pick another OB/GYN. read more

I wanted to take the time to write a review for Dr. Mark Winter and his staff. A few months ago I visited his office for the first time and was diagnosed with a prolapsed uterus. He spent time with me and I did not feel rushed and after been given my options I opted for the laparoscopic hysterectomy. I also had to make a decision as to whether have my tubes and ovaries removed. Dr. Winter gave me the current information on this and it was up to me to make this decision. My thoughts were if something is not broke don't fix it. I told Dr Winter that when he was doing the surgery if he found anything suspicious to remove my tubes and /or ovaries if not let them stay. Even though I am 62 years old I still felt keeping them might have some benefit to me and I had no history of cancer in my family. All of Dr. Winter's staff at his office and the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital were professional, efficient and caring. Through Dr Winter and Dr. Skinner my anesthesiologist I was able to be discharged the evening after surgery as I did not want to spend the night in hospital. They made sure I was in no discomfort. I did not have to have my tubes or ovaries removed. It is a week since my surgery and I have one more week of no lifting but I have been walking and I feel great. I highly recommend Dr. Winter. read more
