There was 1 or 2 cars pumping gas outside when we arrived. Hubs pumped gas while I ran inside to use the restroom. This place was tiny inside! I usually browse inside these marts to possibly find some kind of unique treasure lol. I was not greeted upon walking but I didn't care because I headed towards the restroom first. Just like the store, the restroom was small as well. There was toilet paper and soap so I was content. I browsed the store for only a minute or two and did not find anything interesting. There were weird vibes in there so I decided to skedaddle quickly. There were other customers coming and going often. For the bare essential needs, I would stop here but other than that, I would not make it a point to stop here again.

I'm a gas station / convenience store snob. I'll admit it. I prefer Buc-ee's, Wally's, QuikTrip and…read moreCircle K. In that order. Among other things, they're consistent. I find Moto Mart to be a crap-shoot. I've been to some that were sketchy and some that were fine. I was getting off at this exit and was literally going to drive right past this one, so I figured I might as well risk making a stop. It's best to head into unfamiliar territory with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder if you can. The weird layout was familiar, I think this wasn't my first visit. Bathrooms were useable. Not up to even QuikTrip standards and a far cry from Buc-ee's, but clean enough that I didn't feel like I needed to be decontaminated afterwards. If you're headed south, you can find a Circle K in Evansville, IN which is probably a better bet and worth the slightly higher gas prices there. If you're headed south to Kentucky and can make it that far, gas will be cheaper once you cross the state line. You could do better than this place, but you could do worse.

My construction battalion had been assigned some work at the nearby Crane Naval Station and while in the area, we found every restaurant, watering hole and gas station within 20 miles. This stop had hot food to go, a couple diesel pumps for big rigs and convenient parking on site and in an open lot across the street. Oftentimes, local truckers hauling everything from logs to sand and gravel to long-distance truckers could be found parked across the street. Back then, US-231 turned and went north out front and SR-58 continued east. There was talk of how I-69 would come through the area 'someday'. Skip ahead to today and everything has changed. Gone is the original building, replaced by a modern facility with ADA-compliant restrooms, the newest fuel pumps, and of course, the modern-day I-69 expressway. And, it is no longer much of a truck stop. Gone are the diesel pumps for big rigs, and on-site parking is virtually eliminated. A couple parking spaces across the street where the old roadway still sits is as close as a truck will get. They have chicken and sandwiches, donuts and such inside, hot coffee fresh brewed. Tucked away off to one side of the storefront is a little lunch nook for dining in. Other than that, it is a 24/7 safe haven for weary travelers. And it continues to be a favorite stop of mine.
