Despite calling several times over the course of day ( 12/22/25 ) I could not receive meaningful answers. I thought providers were not allowed to give patients the run around because of the Federal No Suprises Act of 2022, but apparently this law does not currently cover patients with insurance paying in network. For a procedure performed 1/13/2026, Lake Anesthesia did not submit to my insurance until 3/4/2026. While this is standard practice, I logged into my insurance profile for many days waiting for my bill. I received two copies of my Anesethia bill - both of which contain arcane billing lingo and none of which mention the ICD10 codes used by insurer. After insurance I was left with $446.00 in charges. Because the procedure was in-network and covered by insurance they apparently are not obligated to provide any type of meaningful estimate. The colonsocopy practice claimed the out of pocket charge would have been $300 and included an estimate. So you are actually worse off using insurance. I found ChatGPT to be very helpful in framing communication and helping me understand options. I wish I had done more of my upfront communication in writing, so I had more legal recourse and understanding of my options. The billing practices are unethical at best and illegal at worst. Most of my neighbors don't bother paying these bills. Please give some consideration to not paying or using ChatGPT to draft responses that will keep bills in legal limbo for years. I wish more resources existed to protect consumers from these types of predatory health care companies. Along with alerting Federal and State regulators, another option is disputing your claim in small claims court. Even though you may lose your case, the legal costs will give companies such as Lake Anesthesia incentive to improve their ability to interact with consumers with reliable estimates and readable bills.

Comprehensive Medical & Anesthesia History * Past Medical History: Focuses on cardiac, pulmonary, and endocrine diseases, as these carry the highest perioperative risks. * Anesthetic History: Past complications, adverse reactions (e.g., malignant hyperthermia), and history of difficult intubations or nausea. * Medication & Allergies: Current prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and known allergies or adverse drug reactions. * NPO Status: Confirmation of fasting times to prevent aspiration. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] My husband had a rapid fire, cursory medical history while the nurse was also interrupting and asking questions. This is flat out unprofessional and bad practice. This is not opinion, it is legal president for sound medical care in a non-urgent setting. Yet, neither the nurse or the advanced practice nurse listened to the medical history, "yea I read it, You have the usual high blood pressure... I am his wife and a nurse. I interrupted and said AND Glaucoma. The response was, "I saw that too". He was given among other medications: Intravenous "Glyco" glycopyrrolate. This is a problem- The 2025 FDA Package Insert for this medication states: Warnings and precautions: Precipitation of acute glaucoma- may cause mydriasis and increase intraocular pressure in pt. with glaucoma. Advise the patient to promptly seek medical care if they experience symptoms of acute angle closure. CONTRAINDICATIONS ....Glycopyrrolate Injection may be contraindicated in patients with the following concurrent conditions: glaucoma.... WARNINGS This drug should be used with great caution--- if at all--- in patients with glaucoma. Glycopyrrolate Injection may produce drowsiness or blurred vision. The patient should be cautioned regarding activities requiring mental alertness such as operating a motor vehicle or other machinery or performing hazardous work while taking this drug. He was discharged without paper instructions. "It will be on the portal later". So, in this gap of time, a patient departs a caregiver uninformed for what to seek urgent medical care for and should he need urgent medical care...ZERO data would be available to those who need to treat him. In the written discharge directions, on the portal, he was not advised of the warning or to seek medical advice for any signs or symptoms of narrow angle glaucoma. I called his Neuro Ophthalmologist and left a message due to my concern to my husband saying, "I don't want that medication ever again"! I can't see. He usually says nothing. It wasn't until the following day, 24-hours later that I knew. I am calling the State of Illinois to inform them. We will never receive use this vendor of "?" I am not sure what to call it but competent is not a word I would use.

The office staff seems to handle things well and no one seems busy in the least. However, I have spent months calling and emailing trying to get the next stages of care for my kids set up without any reply. Finally I got a randomly sent (not in response to my emails) reply about setting up care, and was able to connect with someone. Set up the appointment needed for my youngest. They knew what type of appointment it was because they quoted me the price for it, and it was not a cleaning. Forty minutes before the appointment, when I have spent days prepping my autistic kid for the break in routine, I get a call asking why I'm coming in and saying the treatment is no longer needed. It was implied that I had made a regular cleaning appointment, which I 1) did not do, and 2) those are covered by our insurance and would not have cost anything. I was frustrated that my child missed out on this treatment due to the office's lack of communication with me, and I shared as much. Not a single apology. I was told they could see that they had returned "a call" and had not been able to leave me a voicemail. I called multiple times, have never had problems with voicemail not working, and had also emailed asking to set up services, which were not replied to. I cannot recommend this office for dental care. I feel awful that I let it go this long; I should have moved on after a few weeks of nonresponse instead of waiting a few months. I just thought we could get back on track with them. The staff are very friendly. As an incoming patient I was able to take a conducted tour. I was made aware of The Dental Assistance Savings Plan via Kleer.com at the outset, and am considering it as I retired from work with COBRA coverage from an insurance which is out of network for The Center. I read the Savings Plan form carefully and believe that I understand it. A decision should be made shortly. There seems to be confusion concerning billing practices at the Center. As I see it it is up to the patient to ask questions, take notes if needed and to make sure that they fully understand The Center's billing and receivables requirements.
