Y'all I was born and raised in South Texas. I feel that it is my job to know exactly where the best tacos are located in all of the cities in South Texas. That being said I looked up a few places online in Eagle pass, Texas and then I really deep dived. This restaurant was hidden amongst the MANY MANY options. Only having 14 reviews on yelp I said let me give it a try. I get there parking lot is empty and it's actually a bit confusing how to park. I finally decided to make up the parking myself and parked my car. Walked inside and was greeted by a friendly waitress. Only about three people working there. Dining room was empty. I will say it was around 7:00AM when I walked in on a Monday so I didn't expect no one to be there. That concerned me a little.
However, I was given the menu it was all in Spanish. Luckily I understand most Spanish, but just can't speak it. I told the waitress who spoke English and Spanish what I wanted. Which was 2 potato, egg, and cheese tacos on flour; 1 bacon, egg, and cheese on flour and 1 Mexican coke to start and 1 to go. This is my go to breakfast taco order. The order came out rather quickly, but also not too quickly if that makes sense. The waitress brought it out on a beautiful hand painted authentic Mexican plate. The style kind of reminded me of my travels to Puebla, Mexico. I felt right at home.
The tortillas were a nice color, the potatoes and bacon weren't soggy, and the cheese was melted! Those are my automatic failures for a restaurant if it is messed up on my breakfast taco and so far Gaona's had passed. Now time for my first bite. WOW.
The texture, of the entire taco was amazing. The taco was a decent temperature not too hot which I like. The one thing I really want to rave about and that I know a lot of my family would love- is that the tortilla was TOSTADA and guess what... I didn't have to ask!!!!! Everywhere I go we always ask for our tortillas to be tostada, but this morning I was so exhausted from work the day before that I completely forgot.
A tortilla makes the taco.
The egg was cooked well, bacon was in strips and CRISPY, but NOT burnt and the potatoes (chef kiss) were perfection. I would say out of all the taco places I've tried this would rank in my top five.
One thing I did find myself gravitating to was adding a bit more salt to my taco, but I grew up in a sodium loving family. So my love for salt is unmatched.
After I finished my tacos I stayed a little bit longer to finish some work at my table and the waitress still checked up on me even though I should have left a long time ago. It hit around 8AM and people started to come in and this was the crowd I was hoping for as I was concerned no one would be there. This crowd though wasn't just any crowd... I could tell these families coming in with abuelas, abuelos, tíos/tias, primos/primas, the entire familia showing up weren't just guests they were actually regulars. It seemed everyone who enter had been there multiple times already and had their designated tables. That's what I love about a small restaurant like that to the staff you are family and that's what makes the tacos even better. This place is a hole in the wall, but that's a wall I would also run through!
Go try it out you won't regret it! Just good luck parking if you are the first one there and there aren't any cars parked already, because when I was leaving all the cars outside were totally parked differently than me, but somehow their way made a lot more sense.
Here's what I ordered and cost down below:
- 1 Taco Tocino Con huevo: $4.49
- 2 Taco de Papa con Huevo: $3.49ea
-2 Coca Cola Mexicana: $4.49ea
Total gross amount of order not including tip:

I'll be back next quarter for sure!
