The building is a classic Carnegie funded Arts and Crafts style brick structure, typical of some Carnegie libraries. (Andrew Carnegie funded 164 public libraries in Indiana over 100 years ago.) The building served as the town library from 1912 through 1991 and includes an addition which expanded space and incorporated an elevator to improve accessibility. The exterior is mostly original, while the interior has been remodeled with no evidence of the historic contents with the exception of interesting photos of Andrew Carnegie and the building when it first opened. A historical plaque outside tells the history of the library. Margaret Wade was the first librarian. The building now serves as the Learning Center as part of the South Madison Community School system. Doug, one of the instructors, gave us an interesting tour of the building and described the Center's mission. The Center currently supports the education of around 20 students. There is parking in a nearby school lot. The building is not open to the public during school hours, but the plaques outside tells the story of this historic building that continues to serve the community. A new larger modern library stands a couple blocks away.

The teachers are the saving grace of this school corporation. The School Board is political and…read moreineffective. The worst is the Administration and the way they treat parents. Guidance Counselors don't listen, the head of School Guidance and Counseling doesn't listen to parents. They all love to pat each other on the back for doing the bare minimum for students. They partner with outside organizations and don't watch over them, creating safety risks and leaving parents and volunteers to do the work to "fix" their very obvious weaknesses. This may have been a great school district in the past, but our experiences have shown us a different story. Anyone reading this who is having issues: switch to Carmel-Clay, Noblesville, or Westfield schools if you can. Since Dr. Yvonne Stokes left, it's been steadily going downhill. As a long-time resident, I'm so disappointed. Your kid's teacher will probably be pretty amazing, but the Administration doesn't treat them well. I've seen them treat teacher contracts like a yo-yo, you're in, then out, then in again. And the evaluation rubric they use is absolute garbage. Even though I write in solidarity with the teachers who work here, I cannot in good conscience give this district anything but 1 star. My biggest concern is safety. Safety was an issue last year and they have changed some things, but it's merely a band-aid on a festering wound. They say safety is a priority but I promise you, it is not. They do not act that way at all, but love to boast about it. Us insiders know how fast and loose they like to play. Thank goodness they're doing proper background checks finally. It's a step, but not nearly enough. And the worst part is that they don't see that it is not enough. Just a quick fix by cutting corners. Be better. Learn accountability. Give transparency. And for the love of all that is good, be better to the teachers and parents. We all know where the actual work happens. Too many in the Administration Building doing too little and each getting paid 4 to 5 times more than a teacher. That's not a good school district. It's a dying one.

It was hard for us to believe that we were watching a High School play. Some of the talent compared to those that play at Footlite. Some characters made us laugh out loud. Especially the UPS driver. Too funny. The high school on a whole was in great shape. Clean, good signage, parents and family members, students, were polite and welcoming. I had never been in this school, but the facility seemed to have it all. Game fields, tennis courts, marching band practice, theatre auditorium was comfortable and able to hear. We praise the staff involved in this presentation; you made your school proud.

I have never actually been here although I know of the school and don't live too far away. I was…read morehere last night with my family to watch my niece's dance recital and I was impressed with the facility. The parking lot is large with lots of spots to park but not too hard to navigate. When you walk in the front entrance, after walking up a long cement walkway, there is a large lobby area that has a few tables and some chairs, and a long hallway off to the left. It is all very clean and seems well kept. The auditorium was down the long hallway and was very large, with padded theater-type seats. The stage was nice-sized and seemed like a great place to perform. If you happen to need wheelchair accessibility there are several accessible spots on the left end of one row in the auditorium with seats removed for wheelchairs. For those of us with mobility challenges who are also able to walk (I use crutches) there are hand rails to hold onto up the gentle slope. I do think they might consider making a few more rows handicap/wheelchair accessible so people who need this can have more options for seating but good for them for even trying. The performance was really nice and each age group did a very nice job. Overall this was a great time and I really enjoyed it. If you plan to go to an outside performance located here you are in for a good experience.
