Jennifer Priestley, Robert Burns and Stephen Baker FCCA of "Maple Accountancy" were instructed by me to file my Self-Assessment Tax Returns. They were authorised agents with HMRC. I have been their client since 2006 and they submitted my self-assessment tax returns each year until 2014. For the year ending 2008 I was due a repayment of overpaid tax from HMRC for around £1200 which was paid to me directly. However, when they submitted my Tax Return in 2011, I was due a repayment of overpaid tax of £4099. Oddly this was not paid to me directly but to Maple Accountancy. I only discovered this substantial overpayment of tax in August 2015 when I had met with an HMRC Tax Officer to query something.
I have issued legal proceedings against Jennifer Priestley and Robert Burns personally. In their defence they claim that I had entered into a contract with one of their many limited companies that had since dissolved but there is no evidence of this. Yet, they continue to use the same name "Maple Accountancy", identical logo, website and contact details while also falsely claiming to be established for over 25-years!
They also claim the monies have been paid by set-off against alleged outstanding fees. I did not owe them any money nor did they ever carry out any work over the value of £180 + VAT per year for my Self-Assessment Tax Returns. I believe they acted most dishonestly in keeping my money to make a secret profit. In any event, there was no agreement for monies to be paid to them on my behalf or any terms to allow any set-off. read more
