Melanie ended up working on me and she is very professional and talented. I felt instantly at ease in their studio, which is clean, relaxing, and beautifully decorated. I'm a pretty introverted person, but I spoke with Melanie easily and calmly for the duration of my session. All of the staff I encountered were caring and easygoing. Based on my experience trying to schedule with Mantis, I would most definitely consider another establishment. I completed the list of questions for my tattoo. I waited about a week and a half, I know the process takes about a month or two out to schedule. I called to follow up on a Friday (after a week and a half) and was told by an employee that I would be contacted the next day (which was Sat.) to schedule, no one reached out to me on Sat. So, by Tuesday I reached out to them again... and the owner picked up the phone. I was calm, professional, not arrogant, didn't yell at her or swear at her, I just simply mentioned I was told by her employee I would be contacted on Sat. and heard nothing back, so I was following up. She seemed very stressed and displayed anxiety to me over the issue....and, I must note I displayed no anxiety to her, just merely the facts... she immediately expressed that I must of fallen thru the cracks; but, also stated she didn't want me as client then. If this establishment treats potential new clients in this manner, I would definitely consider booking elsewhere. read more

In the interest of fairness, I'll list the positives for this shop, and there are many-- This place is super clean. The artists are first rate. They do excellent artwork. Scheduling my appointment was pretty easy, and they were transparent as possible with pricing, as well as the number of appointments. And I love the tattoo that was given to me here. It's really sharp, and it exceeded my expectations. Why wouldn't I recommend it? My own experience did not end well, and it's not my opinion that I was treated with respect. The artist who did my work, Karlis, had me scheduled for 5 sessions that could have been up to 3.5 hours each. Things went well, or so I thought, until the end of the 4th session. It was at this point that Karlis stopped at the two hour mark and said we were done. His tone and mannerisms spoke to obvious annoyance. When I asked him why we stopped, he said that my skin was getting raw, but when he continued, it was clear that he was irritated with how I sat in the chair. He said that I kept looking every time he pulled a line, and that I kept moving my arm. "Every time" is a bit of an exaggeration, but I'll grant that my efforts to be good and stationary failed here. What angers me about this is that, to the point of nausea, I asked him at appointments one through three to tell me if I was not sitting right. I was repeatedly told that I was fine. Not once, over 4 sessions totaling 10 hours, was I told that how I sat for the artist was a problem. I asked for a chance to respond to his feedback and keep going. No dice. There was no interest at this point. To his credit, he did offer the free and customary touch up. I won't be going back for it, but the offer was there. Maybe he had an off day. Everyone does. But it is patently unprofessional to complain about something that could have been brought up earlier in that session, or other ones. I love my artwork, but I'd never go back to this place or this artist. I've never felt like that as a customer ever. I tipped well at every session. I showed up on time. I spoke to the artist with respect, and I did everything I could to be a good customer. The positive here is that the tattoo, unlike the service, is not terrible. read more

I will never go back to this tattoo shop ever again! I asked for a simple touch up on my tattoo after it being finished because there was some things that needed brightened up and added too. I tried four different methods of contacting my tattoo artist and all I got was ignored everytime! I was even willing to pay for the touch up and still no answer. Even the person who handles the booking for my tattoo artist ignored my emails and text. I stopped in person and was not allowed to see the artist, I was told to leave a note. Well it's been months since then and still no reply. Is this how you treat all your clients or just me? I feel like I am being treated poorly and believe me I have been spreading bad rumors about this place! I hope the owner see's this review because this is how one of your tattoo artist has treated me. I paid over a $1000 for my tattoo and left a very nice tip of $200 or more, and this is how I was left, like kicked to the gutter! People are so ignorant it's sickening! read more

I love Mantis, I doubt I'll get tattooed anywhere else again. Very clean, professional, warm and friendly but, most importantly, very talented. They really listen to you and patiently work with you to give you the best tattoo which meets your needs/expectations. They don't intimidate or ignore clients but will give you honest advice in a courteous way and work to find a solution you'll be happy with. I always go to Melanie. She does great portraits and gorgeous flowers. Her use of color is outstanding. She has a light touch and her work always heals well and beautifully. I've seen Karlis work firsthand. He's fast and also amazing with his use of color. Both are perfectionists who will work to make sure you have the best tattoo for what you want. The price is more than fair, the only downside is the long wait, you will have that with any good artist. It's worth the wait to make sure your permanent art is as good as it can be. read more

Coyote pierced my nostril when I was 16, and it's perfect. He pierced my nipples almost three years ago and did a piss-poor job. They're both shallow, one is EXTREMELY shallow, and I've had problems with them to this day. Constantly painful and close to ripping. Do not go to him for nipple piercings. read more
