We brought our sandwiches out to the gardens, where there are many seating areas with nice views. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated, a window into how this wealthy industrialist lived in the last century. Pam, the docent at the front desk, was full of interesting stories about the family and the house. We were surprised to learn from her that the curtains at the front of the house were the originals from the 1920s. With high ceilings and huge windows, every room has a beautiful view, even the servants' areas. I found the kitchen especially interesting. If you plan to visit Kingwood with small children, I recommend saving the mansion for another day. The beautiful staircase (faux painted with a feather!) has a low railing and wide spaces between the balustrades. It would be easy for a child to slip through and fall to the terrazzo ground floor.

I originally started off emailing with Kate, but Bre later took over, and indulged my numerous emails and edits on the invitations. We received the envelopes, invitations, and RSVP info cards today and everything was perfect. The care with which everything was wrapped was impressive, too - in tissue paper and also wrapped with twine. We ordered 110 of each and they gave us 115 invitations and RSVP info cards, too, which was really nice - my contact had said that might happen but doesn't always. I told my fiance today that my Gmail thread with Bre literally had 68 emails back and forth - it was great I got to work one-on-one with them, and our wedding invites are pretty cool looking, IMHO. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again for placecards for the wedding or anything else, like Xmas cards, too. Overall, really great experience with this company.

Most of our group chose 4-6 wines to try so our table looked a bit crazy with all the glasses. The one downside was that the employee who helped us was relatively new and had us do our tastings from sweet to dry, instead of dry to sweet. She did say that she was trained this way but it threw me off. Luckily, the owner came in and we were able to ask some questions. When I questioned the thought process of going from sweet to dry - he quickly corrected our remaining samples and made a note to do some retraining. I enjoyed that this was a family owned winery. Even the kids were studying subjects in college to allow them to be part of the business as well. I loved the theme of time. Our group ended up leaving with several bottles and I would definitely recommend this winery to others.

Just maybe a few more fire pits for the colder evenings.
