I figured I would quickly find out what positions part time were available in the area however it turns out you need to book an appointment alone. And even then, the door was closed so booking an appointment can only be done by telephone. read more

Also, they are not full of stupid questions about why you need to work etc. They are a little bit tricky to find. They are above a hairdressers in the high street, but the door you use is actually for a clothes and shoe business which shares the premises with the agency. However, when you go up they are really welcoming. Also, they actually answer the phone and reply to emails which is unheard of in some agencies too. I would recommend them as a good part of your job search especially if you want work more locally although they cover London too.

Which given the glut of Recruitment Consultancies out there is, sadly, the exception rather than the norm. They cover both temporary, contract and permanent placements in the City, South East London and Kent. I used to work with them a few years back, so I can vouchsafe for their considerable experience in working with both blue chip and independent companies. If you know what you want, these guys are pretty good at finding you it.

I'm quite sure there will be a despondent troop of ex-Woolies employees turfed out of the Bethnal Green branch marching with solidarity to their local employment agency or nearby soup kitchen to get a spoonful of harsh reality any day now. Now I've not actually been into this Job Centre but have been reliably informed it's good for manual/retail vacancies and has a fast turnaround time for one on one consultations. Jokes aside, it's dog eat dog out there at the moment, fellow brethren, and no-one is safe. Job Centres could become second homes for many more to follow. Merry Xmas!

When i arrived i was a little bit late (10min) and there was a lot of people waiting as you would expect so i didn't really matter in the end. I was surprised to only wait 20min honestly. I don't know how job centres work here but in France it would be a nightmare and a lot of waiting. The gentleman i had my appointment with was very efficient, professional and even friendly (an other surprise for the french i am haha). All was done in 20 min or less. Impressive. He reassured me regarding all the concerns and questions i had which is appreciated. A very good experience.

It is very easy to sign up to, all you need is NI card and passport, fill out a basic form, and answer a few test questions just to make sure you have good basic numeracy and literacy skills. It took no more than a day for me to get my first job from here. They just ring you up as soon as they have some work for you, for example, to fill in for someone who has called in sick ie cafe work. To attend events where venues need more bar/waiting staff for the night, but mainly its warehouse work ie putting together information packs etc. You are given a time sheet that you have to get your employer to sign and give back to Status. Then you just have to sit back and wait for a cheque, which almost always comes through on a friday. The pay is also minimum wage no matter what job you are doing. All in all, a brilliant idea for young people to get out there and gain experience in different areas.
