Since this was my very first time in Reims, I really wanted to soak up the local foodie culture. I…read morewas searching for a small coffee shop, and I passed by Holy Shot and decided to pop in.
The proprietor behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. She spoke zero English, but was incredibly welcoming and kind. She seemed almost giddy (by French standards) to have tourists in her coffee shop, so I got the feeling this was a very locals-only type place.
We ordered cappuccinos and a "baked fresh today" chocolate chip cookie that looked too irresistible to pass up.
Now, France isn't exactly known for their espresso, and these cappuccinos admittedly weren't very good. They were hot, but that's about it. The cookie didn't fare much better, it wasn't very sweet but did taste nice and fresh. You could really taste the fresh butter and quality ingredients.
This is a very tiny little coffee shop, and we sat at a communal table in the window with a lovely local couple who also didn't speak English (or look, they at least pretended not to, LOL). Although I didn't love the coffee or treats, the cozy atmosphere was absolutely perfect, especially on a cold and rainy afternoon in Reims. It also felt really good to support a small local business.
