Doris was a wonderfully thorough and astoundingly lovely tour guide. A true local, she led us around the neighborhood while greeting friends around Harlem and asking questions about us and our time in New York. She pointed out all manner of interesting locations; houses of Renaissance legends like Zora Neale Hurston and Marcus Garvey, the former locations of the Cotton Club and the Savoy, and current projects like the restoration of the Apollo and the Schomburg Center. Lunch was delicious, a soul food buffet with some of the best mac and cheese and collards I've ever had. We gratefully went an hour and a half over our expected time, and only had to cut _that_ short because of prior engagements. I feel very lucky to have met such a knowledgeable and charming person, and even luckier to have been given a glimpse into the history of one of the most dynamic and interesting places and times in America. We owe Doris a return trip to complete the second half of the tour, and I think it's well worth your time to take a trip yourself.

We chose the private family tour and booking was quick and easy and the customer service as great as I remembered. On to the tour itself: Luke met us at the Museum of Natural History on time and we got reacquainted. My son is autistic and can have some trouble warming to new people but absolutely no the case with Luke, he immediately put my son at ease and they were chatting like old friends as we made our way into Central Park. The tour covered loads of Central Park, including an exciting off track visit to a secret cave, the plaza hotel, grand central station, some fun subway rides, and concluded at the Brooklyn Bridge. But more than just seeing so many iconic sites, Luke had hundreds of facts and stories (which my son loved) about what we were seeing. It was truly like spending a wonderful day with an old friend. The process is always the same: the accountant files taxes and then a few weeks later you get a phone call saying that your check is ready to be picked up. You must pay for their services in order to get the check. Last year was the first time I filed taxes on my own since I just graduated college. Since my mother trusted this person, I decided to file with him too. Everything went smoothly until I got a letter from the IRS specifying how much my refund was. I was shocked to find out that there was a difference between what I received and what they sent. I called them to confirm it. Finding out I was missing money ignited my curiosity and I checked my entire family's check against the amount the IRS sent. All of us were missing around $300 each. In total, the losses for the entire family reached around $1,000. I tried in vain to get my money back. Since the owner of this establishment was smart enough to keep everything casual and didn't give us receipts, I have no leverage. This review is the best I can do to warn others against this despicable business that steals from a mostly poor community.
