Even though the town was covered in a new snow, Dustin made the Cidery warm and inviting. He took us through a tour of all 10 ciders and gave us the history of Fenceline. We have tasted most every cider in the Grand Valley and none were as delicious as any of the Fenceline ciders. Dustin not only gave us a tour of the ciders but talked with us about the Mancos area and introduced us to the power house women who get together there every Monday night! What a wonderful group of women and an incredible experience. Thank you Dustin. We are now looking to move a little closer so we can frequent your wonderful establishment!

We each did a flight of five from what was available. I had the "My Morning Coffee, a "semi-sweet" from the selections of meads. It really did not have any sweetness at all and was quite dry. I tried the Choke Cherry Wine, Feel Better Berry, Baco Noir and Cabernet. Choke Cherry was tart without sweet. Feel Better Berry was cloying. Baco Noir was dry as was the Cabernet, which had a slightly astringent undertone. The ambiance is much more casual than a typical winery tasting room. Flights are served in plastic cups written on in sharpie. We were regaled with stories of the tasting room cat bringing its various conquests back into the building for the owner to find. I don't believe I would return for the products.

We each ordered a wine tasting, with five pours (1 oz each) from a wide selection of fruit wines and meads ($8 each), and then shared them in order to taste all ten! We enjoyed the wines, and especially the honey mead, and purchased an extra bottle (750 ml, $25) to take with us. Jim, the friendly proprietor, also gave us a taste of their wine slushees, and we ordered a plate of excellent, and fully loaded and reasonably priced, nachos. Yellow Car, and Cortez Colorado, is a convenient stop for tourists on route to Mesa Verde National Park, and even Arches which we had just visited. For any RVers out there, Yellow Car participates in the Harvest Hosts program, with reservation.

I ran in to grab a six or of something local, and found a blonde ale made in Durango. Price was about what you would expect from a liquor store, and the fellow behind the counter favored efficiency over conversation. That's OK, I left the pump running. A cursory look around the place shows that they have all the usual stuff you'd find in a liquor store, with plenty of mind-numbing on the shelf behind the counter. Small parking lot in front, and pretty easy access back to the highway. Arguably one of the closest liquor stores to Mesa Verde national Park, and surrounding areas.

It's a new place and is actually really nice if you're a wine connoisseur. There's an outside patio or seating indoors there's no kitchen serving food but they do have a nice snack selection area indoors where you can have a snack while you get drunk enjoying the beautiful Dolores weather unless it's raining all week while you're there lol. It's clean indoors and the young girl working was really sweet and found humor in my boyfriends smart comment about not selling Apple Cider anyways if you're a wine drinker stop in and grab a bottle or two to go.

And the staff was so fun and helpful. We got 3 different kinds of sandwiches, toasted. Watch for unusual limits on days open. Currently, seems like they're closed Sunday and Monday and Tuesday, and then open from 11am till closing Wednesday through Saturday, which offers opportunities to drop by not only for lunch or dinner, but in between as well. I tried the wagyu and while it was tender and good I much preferred my ribeye. Everybody else seemed to enjoy their steaks. Our only complaint was that we waited an hour and a half for our food. Our reservation was for 1830, we did not get our steaks until 2000. They did give us a complimentary soup or salad for the wait which was nice but 1.5 hours is a little much. But if I were to find myself in the area I would make a stop for this place... I'd just make sure there are no parties lol.
