Based on the company alone, I would give it five stars, but as an event, I was not impressed.
I've attended the original Oktoberfest twice in recent years so I know how the real thing should be, and this was far from it. Very gimmicky and probably verging on being culturally offensive. I would advise anyone looking for a "genuine" Oktoberfest experience, to visit the popular German restaurant in the city centre. It's easy to find after a quick web search.
Decorations were quite minimal and even though the event had rows of tables and benches, it was quite basic. The waiters and waitresses wore fake Dirndls and Lederhosen, which looked cheap and tacky.
The event only had one choice of beer and it was unnamed - this is very non-German, as they take much pride in their beer and boast the brewery at every opportunity. Although the beer tasted ok, it is not worth the price, which was £11.50 for one litre (two pints).
The food unfortunately didn't look appetising, so I didn't taste, but I heard that sauerkraut was not offered, despite being on the menu.
The overall atmosphere did slightly resemble Oktoberfest with the 2am tracks, such as, Living on a Prayer, and the general Oktoberfest classics, like Sweet Caroline. For me, it was too full on, too soon, especially with people standing on tables after only one hour. read more
