If there's one thing the UK is short of it's....?…read more 1. Tesco stores? 2. Rain in BBQ season? 3. Caribbean restaurants? Sorry 1 and 2 - you're out of here! It's true that I can't think of any other Jamaican/Caribbean restaurants in the Stockport area and only 1 in Manchester city centre (Arndale food market) but from enjoying their Curry goat with rice and peas (£5.50) this lunch time, the food was so tasty that I'd have to say that in spite of a lack of rivals they really do live up to their name! Cari-best probably isn't the sort of place you'd bring a first date along to, but if you're after good quality food in a relaxed setting then this is your place. The 2 guys working there today were probably no older than 20 but seemed to be having a good laugh at work and you could have a good bit of banter with them. Their choice of DMX, dancehall reggae and deep dub definitely helped me get my chilled out vibes on while eating my curry and reading the paper. They also do delivery within 3 miles for orders over £15 and are open to 7pm in winter, much later in summer. Overall I'm looking forward to going back and would recommend them if you're fed up with the usual takeaway staples on the high street.

It like to say that was the end of it but unfortunately it wasn't during the course of the afternoon I became so unwell I actually left work a couple of hours early, I felt so nauseous, bloated and uncomfortable. Eventually I wasn't actually sick despite feeling I would be for a good few hours (the bus ride home was horrendous! ) but spent most of my evening on or near the toilet as the diahorrea was terrible. As the only other meal I'd had that day was my wheetabix breakfast I am 100% my bout of illness was caused by my jerk chicken, rice n peas I had from the jerk and juicey joint, Wellington rd. My boyfriend ordered the Grilled Jerk Chicken (which he liked) with Chips and I had the Beef Steak (stew) with rice & beans. I must say the regular size portion was big for me - just £5 - but the taste of this dish was just yummy! The rice was lovely well-seasoned and the steak was melting in my mouth. Absolutely delicious as always & excellent value. As mentioned in my tip, Kool Runnings is a permanent catering van which I have had the pleasure of frequenting for around 10 years. In that time, I have always received consistently tasty food. It is located right in the middle of an area with a lot of Caribbean heritage in Manchester and has always been extremely popular. Thankfully this time it was less busy and we grabbed some seats inside. It's certainly a unique place to eat - the only other Caribbean restaurants I'm aware of are the two Turtle Bay chains in the city centre. The interior is all reclaimed materials and vibrantly coloured painted walls. They've only around 30 covers so the place is quite small (expect to struggle to get a spot when it's busy, but there are plenty of other dining options along this stretch of Barlow Moor Road). The menu is pretty concise, which I liked - their Beef Stew Peas was really flavoursome and just about tolerably spicy - I'm sure you can order other dishes that are more so. The sides of coconut rice and mixed peas are quite sizable, so best to share between two. I wasn't a fan of the fried plaintain here unfortunately. Washed down with a bottle of ShinDigger beer it made for a tasty and nicely unusual dinner spot. Tip: it's probably not for you if you're in any sort of hurry; the service was quite slow and it took an age to get the bill.

The vibe of the place is great and very laid back. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive although a little slow at times but they were busy so will let them off. We ordered jerk chicken, curried goat, coconut rice and slaw 3 ways. The chicken was just ok - very tasty but the skin wasn't crisp which is a shame as that's my favourite bit! However, the curried goat was the best that I have ever tasted. It was spicy but tasted amazing especially with the coconut rice which was equally as good. The prices are quite reasonable for the area..approx £7 for mains and £3 for all side dishes. I had a Guinness punch which was tasty and quite good value. Overall a great little place which I will certainly return to. If the chicken was crisp then this would be be the best Caribbean cuisine restaurant in Manchester in my opinion.
