We have been receiving a family box since November and have had an issue with almost every delivery. Bad produce, shorted items, something out of stock. Not as good since merging with Fresh City Farms. Seems the selection is less. What happened to the wide range of flours, even Red Fife, or the really interesting heritage apples? Mama Earth used to care about the environment and be local-centered, but meat from New Zealand, really? Carbon footprint, anyone? Speaking of meat, all the prices soared once Healthy Butcher became the middleperson. Meat prices were lower when it was just producers and Mama in the equation. And Mabel's bread, which dominates the selection (even St. John's seems to have been pushed out now) is mediocre at best. Customer service responds quickly to any issues. Delivery is problem-free. As with any organic or small farm produce, don't expect aesthetic perfection or equal-sized items (ordering 1 lb of beets, you might get one huge one and one puny one). I agree with the comments below that they have dedicated customer service. The fruits/veg were a lot less than I thought but sort of expected. I wish they have real time tracking for deliveries as their driver didn't call me and their text came through 2 hours after the fact. The pear I got wasn't ripe and the blueberries weren't sweet but very few sour ones. The custom produce box for $40 only lasted 2 people 3 days - that is if you eat salad every day and also juice. read more

The fruits and vegetables are certified organic as well as free trade and are in season. And for a mere $2 more you can customize your fruit basket. Alongside the delicious vegetables you can add other organic goodies like honey and cheese. However, while the vegetables are relatively inexpensive the other add-ons are slightly pricey. I used to be with Front Door Organics (loved them and miss them!!) but they were bought out by Fresh City Farms, which I tried for a few months. My delivery with them was messed up so many times (3 to be exact) that I sought out other options, which brought me to Mama Earth Organics. They have great customer service and stand behind their products. Good quality vegetables and fruit. I have the same delivery person every time and they follow my buildings strict rules perfectly every time. I wish they did allow a free swap out of items. I was getting way too many bananas so I had to add them to my do not send list so now I never get them. read more

My family used to order from Mama Earth Organics for many years. While things were going well and produce from local farmers were a treasure we are sad to have to tell you the following: We recently returned to Canada from Europe and went straight to our home and have remained there since, but like so many others out there, are faced with no means to get fresh foods on our table. All delivery services are booked for weeks to come. When we approached the business we supported for so many years we received a very cold "Go on the wait list!" We reached out a few more times even sending them proof that we are not just pretending to be in a bit of a bind at the moment. No reply was best they could offer. I've been ordering from Mama earth organics weekly for 3 years, they have great integrity and the service is great however the quality of the fruits and veggies has dropped quite a bit in the past year. Apples and Avocado are tiny..most items are much smaller then they were when I started . The bin used to be 2/3 full but now it's less then 1/3 full some weeks, because the product is so small. The prepared food has become too expensive for the serving size. The sweet potato & lentil Shepard's pie and veggie lasagna etc feeds only two people at $17.95! With no meat in these! (We actually tossed the sweet potato Shepard's pie as it had no flavour.. missing salt I think.) They show a loaf of bread,. But you get a mini loaf. They overuse veggies that are in season (squash, fennel, onion) and are using too many less exciting cheaper veggies to fill the basket. I'm going to try other options in the new year. It's too bad, I loved getting my basket for soo long, but I really can't recommend them anymore. read more

Very disorganized and unprofessional. Mama Earth has been harrassing me over bins that I don't have, asking me to return. I informed them for 5 times over 8 months that I don't have any accumulated bins. They didn't take me seriously, now informing me to charge for the bins. It's very clear to me this company does not have respect for a loyal customer. I am only on my third delivery and the first time was great, fruit and veg were very fresh. Week two: broccoli wasn't fresh and was already turning yellow, and my apples weren't included, kale was very wilted that I had to cook it immediately. My missing produce was dealt with by customer service giving me a discount of 10%, adding five items to my bin and they added the missing apples on my next delivery, which was great but I wasn't given the opportunity to customize my bin, or else I would not have chosen broccoli again. Week three: a really sad head of lettuce, and once again broccoli that was already turning yellow...at this time, I am really on the fence about this service. My bin never has frozen water bottles to keep fruit and veg a bit fresher, instead, I get half-wilted greens that looked as though they have been sitting in a hot van all day. I'm a weirdo when it comes to picking veggies and fruits. I was worried that the quality would be compromised, since you don't have much of an initial say about how they choose your produce. However, I have to say, their veggies and fruits, are fresh! To the touch. The kind I'd select if I were doing the picking, myself. I think the value is there. $30 for a small mixed veg/fruit box. I wanted to start with a small box, to avoid wasting good food. I like the selection of other goods as well: unofficially tree-nut free bagels from St. Urbain; produce on sale. I picked up an organic, unblemished, dark and healthy looking zucchini for $1.45 on sale. I also ordered a sugarbaby yellow watermelon for $5.00. All organic, and in good shape. Yes, I'll order again. Yes, I'd recommend it to a friend or family member. Worth trying. I love Mama Earth. It's so much fun getting a box of veggies and fruits every week, and the best part is you can choose what you get. I'm allergic to a couple things, so being able to pick what I want to receive is heaven. Brian is our delivery guy, and he's super nice. I am completely hooked on the Organic delivery services. Every Wednesday, I have an entire bin of fresh organic fruits and veggies waiting for me when I get home. I am now picking up odd things here and there (meat, seafood, bread), and only visiting the grocery store once or twice a month to pick up pantry staples. We started with the $55 family size bin, and downgraded to the couples bin for $35 a week. The $55 would last a couple two weeks if they ate out a couple of meals. Check out the sample baskets on their website to see just how much food it is. A couple would each get a fruit to bring to work each day, and there is enough for two or three full meals or soups. The add-ons help, I usually have some onions or garlic added to my order. If you know how to cook its a bonus, as you will be exited by the more "unique" vegetables like black kale, swiss chard. If you don't, they provide a recipe for any more foreign offerings. You can add, change, cancel your orders anytime on line. You can also have the payments come directly off of your credit card. The quality of the produce is fantastic, as is the customer service. I have used a different service in the past, and I like Mama Earth better. High quality produce, unbelievable convenience. I decided to give them another try. But still like Wanigan best. Mama Earth requires a minimum of $25.00 produce for them to deliver to you. But with Wanigan I just need to order $25.00 of anything they carry. Also, I don't eat much bread or tofu anymore so a lot of their items isn't stuff that I want. I wish they had carried meats & fish. But I guess that's too difficult for them to ensure freshness. I will have to check out fooddel. read more

We signed up with mama earth in early May and are very impressed thus far. You can add to your order, customize your basket, even blacklist your most hated veggies. We have never had a problem with delivery and items are very fresh. In our basket we receive tips and recipes for not so common produce. We have tried so many veggies we have never tried before thanks to mama earth! We have also been able to make lots of baby food with what we have received. Some fruits and veggies are so hard to find organic in the supermarket but mama earth has a fantastic selection. We have also tried the bagels and the tofu - great stuff! Also important, customer service is fantastic. I ordered chocolate chip bagels one week. They sent a note apologizing that St Urbain had no chocolate chip so they gave us a different variety at no charge. Also, wording on one of their tofu products was unclear and what I ended up with was different from what I was expecting. I dropped them a line to suggest a change in the product description and quickly received a reply back with an apology and a credit to my account. Like I said, fantastic customer service. read more

Been using Mama Earth Organics for a year now and we do most of our groceries with them (i.e. Vegetables, selection of fruits, milk, eggs, yoghurt and occasional speciality items). Great customer service, super responsive and eager to resolve issues Only downside to the service is the basket gets boring over time. Like having beets, fiddle or squash for 4-6 weeks in a row. You can add $2 to customize your basket choice but usually within the price range the alternatives are limited. I really liked Mama Earth Organics. I subscribed for two boxes and then put my account on hold. I liked the fruits and vegetables that were in the box, they were fresh and delicious. The only drawback is that the pre made boxes sometimes come with ingredients that I don't normally use (I.e chard). There is an additional cost to customize your box and I really didn't want to pay that fee for the exchange of 1 or 2 items. I really like this company and the products but I wish there were more options that doesn't call for an additional charge. I found it easier to purchase the the items that I wanted at my local grocery store or individual fruit stalls on Yonge St as I live around Yonge and Eglinton. read more

I have been using Mama Earth Organics for over a year. I have tried a few other organic food deliveries and in my opinion, Mama Earth has been the best by far. It's a wonderful service, moderately priced, easy to place an order and customize your basket as well as make changes if necessary. There is always a fairly wide selection of produce and you can add other items such as: dairy (Stirling butter!), bakery (St. Urbain Bagel, St. John's and Brick Street.), Ying Ying Tofu, Remarkable Bean Coffee and pantry items, with new products being added. The quality of produce is awesome! In the rare instance you get something that doesn't look too good, Heather and the team have been happy to credit or replace the item at no charge the following week. Their priorities, as listed on their website (www.mamaearth.ca): Taste: Comes in above everything and is the only necessary element. It must taste excellent and be as fresh as possible. Local: Search out and find locally sourced food if it's available. Organic Required for all produce. For other items, make the choice on a case by case basis based on an evaluation of all four variables. Small Scale Food Production: Our preference. I just signed up with Mama Earth about a month ago, having been with another service previously. I have to say that I'm really impressed with them. The produce is of top-notch quality; I have yet to receive anything that wasn't absolutely fresh. The selection is also extremely good; it's rare that I have to make a trip to the grocery store for fresh fruits and vegetables anymore because Mama Earth has most of what I need. The food is delicious--they sent the most incredibly luscious and juicy grapefruit the other day, and the MacIntosh apples are tart and tasty. And for $45 a week (the family basket), I have enough to last through the week. Mama Earth shows up reliably, about the same time each week, and there's never anything missing from my order (quite a problem with the previous service). As I don't live that close to a grocery store, I really appreciate the fact that I can depend on their showing up and delivering exactly what I ordered. I've been buying some of the non-produce items as well, and just today sampled their organic eggs from the Kawarthas. Very impressive! They tasted much fresher than the standard grocery store eggs. I have been a customer for at least 3 years and love it. You get to select the freshest produce out there, sourced locally from farmers if you choose. I love the rare items you get here like wild berries, huskhop, etc which you don't normally find in most grocery stores. In addition to produce, they offer a wide selection of food from local artisanal shops which helps me save time and cut down on my carbon footprint. read more

Edit: This review is based on my experience this past (September/October/November 2014). I signed-up for this popular delivery service because everyone has great things to say about them. My review is specifically regarding the large fruit basket and not any other baskets. I must say, their customer service is exemplary, my emails were always answered within a couple of hours :) My problem is that I kept on receiving bad navel oranges, they were tiny and almost green and dry inside. The customer service representative offered to give me free oranges and again, the oranges were bad.. They admitted that there's been some problems with that specific supplier. Next they offered to give me a 1 large basket for free when I asked them to cancel all deliveries, which was very nice and I thought that if the free basket had good oranges, we'll resume the delivery. Guess what? The complimentary basket arrived and the oranges that were included were really bad..again :( We eat a lot of oranges, it's a staple in our household. Even though I appreciate their offers of free baskets, complimentary fruit and prompt responses to my emails, I still got bad quality product in the end. If you are one of the owners who is reading my review, please know that I'm still hoping to give your service one more chance in the future, I really like the fact that your deliveries were very regular and drivers were very polite, it's nice to get organics delivered to a neighbourhood where I simply can't buy them at the moment. read more

I started ordering from Mama Earth 2 months ago and have been very happy with the produce. The vegetables (especially the kale!) always arrive fresh and often in bigger quantities than what you would find in the organic section of thetypical supermarket. The box always comes with a few recipes printed on the back of your invoice, which have totally inspired me to try different flavour combinations and ways of cooking. I did a fair bit of research before choosing Mama Earth, and one of the things that won me over was their super user-friendly website. Each grocery item is marked clearly to let customers know where the produce is from, along with storage tips. The sale section is also a fun place to check out with different items marked down each week. I will be sticking with this service for a good while. They carry nice organic add-ons like chipotle kale chips (awesome) and the cowgirl cookie by Earth + City. I have been receiving organic goodies from Mama Earth since April of this year and I'm thrilled!! They are the only organic food delivery service to Markham that I know of so far. I am very happy with the quality of the produce and the selection of other items. They are very customer service oriented and thoughtful, eg. they will deliver a little later in the day on hot days so the bin stays outside for a shorter time. They are friendly, always return emails promptly and answer any questions I have. Recently they were unable to procure one of the items I had ordered but they provided me with a perfectly reasonable substitution and threw in an extra item without me ever asking. They treat their customers well and I would definitely recommend them to everyone. read more

I really enjoy getting my weekly box. The fruits and veggies are fresh and delicious. The ready made meals so far have been absolutely amazing-restaurant quality (I have tried the beet ravioli and vegetable and mushroom ragout). I also enjoy getting the cold pressed juices. I'm on Month #2 with Mama Earth. The produce and choices provided to you are fantastic. They deliver to my work and it all comes home in my back pack. It's amazing how much fruit and veg you tend to eat when it's fresh and flavourful. I now get my coffee beans and butter delivered too, hello time saver. It's so much easier having it all come at once and then it's always in your fridge. I look at my order for the following week, decide what I plan on cooking and add anything I need to my basket. The customer service has to be discussed too, outstanding, incredibly helpful and quick to respond with questions or if you are concerned about something. I get the $25 basket but with extras it varies from $35 - $40 a week, which fits right in my budget. I am very grateful to my friends Agnes and Paul for advising me about this service. I really enjoy Mama Earth service and product. The produce is fresh and plentiful. I find I need to skip a week every 2-3 weeks to use everything before I get new stuff and I've learned that unless you are willing to look up a recipe for a vegetable that is out of your regular repertoire I would recommend swapping it out for something you know you'll use. The waste I've had always seems to come from not using something a little foreign to me. All in all I would recommend Mama Earth. read more

The food goes bad 2 days after you buy it. I understand it's organic, but I've been eating organic for years and never experienced vegetables just wilting or turning to mush in the fridge after 2 days! Waste of money. I had to throw out so much produce. They also give you really small vegetables - like a cabbage the size of my fist, and a bunch of carrots with two that were the size of my pinkie! I got a fennel that, once I peeled it, was only as big as a garlic bulb (and it cost $6!) The carrots I ordered were supposed to be rainbow, but they were just orange and yellow, no purple, as was advertised. My orders were always around $100 - $200. I think if you're a big family spending more money they probably give you the better produce, which leaves people like me paying for the scraps and receiving strange substitutions. On top of that, their delivery time is always different and the window is 5/6 hours on a day that they dictate, so if you have nothing better to do than wait around for your groceries, this company is for you! Mama Earth also makes a lot of substitutions without asking you first, even after you pay an extra $2 to customize your order. I don't think they even have the range of produce they claim to have when you put in your order. It's also expensive - their boxes aren't very good value compared to other organic delivery companies and for any additional groceries, it's like they tack on an extra $1.50 or more per item compared to the supermarket price for the exact same thing.
