We called ahead to make sure they were open and they had a table all set up for my husband and I and our 19-month old daughter - with a cute plate, little baby spoon, and highchair ready for her. Our waitress was so nice and the sweet tea was delicious. This is Southern granny cooking just like my grandma made when I was a child. You can order single plates but the best deal is their family-style for $23 a person with black-eyed peas, green beans, stewed tomatoes, biscuits and corn bread, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken with one other protein - we chose pot roast and it was soft and delicious. I wanted dessert - but it was so filling we had to skip although all their pies sounded wonderful. This is a historic old log cabin-type building with plenty of tables inside and they were super nice and low-key for us and our baby. Food was out almost instantly and everything was delicious. It's a beautiful evening, I sit outside and place my order. Husband wife owners make their way over to introduce themselves separately. We engage in small talk. The first two courses come and are delicious. Someone then brings a scallop appetizer and I say no I had the entree because I am looking forward to the risotto. The waitress comes to apologize for putting in the appetizer instead of entree and says dessert is on me. The entree comes out and the balsamic glaze made the scallops look seared but they weren't and a couple of the larger ones were less than fully cooked. What I ate was very tasty and briny. The risotto was superb. Alex, the owner, comes over to ask how things are so I tell him the flavor of the scallops is excellent and fresh, I just with they seared better. He could see I was trimming and eating the edge. He thanks me for the input and disappears. Mary Ann, the owner, comes by to ask how things are and I tell her the same thing. She says let me bring you something else like a bowl of pasta. I tell her not a bowl just a saucer so I can taste it. She heads off. Alex returns with two scallops cooked to perfection. A few minutes later Mary Ann returns with a full bowl of bolognese pasta. Later the waitress returns with my apple pie dessert which was outstanding! When the waitress brings the bill she explains the scallops were removed from the check and replaced with the pasta (lower price). The dessert was complimentary. She got a great tip.
