We really love Maloney's Martial Arts! Jerry does a really great job of teaching the kids a good attitude, discipline, self control and respect. I have three boys and, unfortunately, I didn't find Jerry's soon enough for my older two sons. My oldest son did karate at another dojo where they focused heavily on competition and taught the kids a really bad attitude. My middle son swore off karate after seeing what my oldest endured. When my youngest son asked to try it out, I was determined to find the best karate teacher in the Bay Area and I'm happy to say that I did! Aside from teaching a great attitude, the other thing that Jerry does so well is teach the kids how to translate the kata's (moves that they practice) onto a human body. For my oldest son at the other dojos, he was an expert at all the moves but then when they started sparring he didn't always understand how to apply the moves to his opponent and he would get destroyed. Here, Jerry helps them take the moves and put it to use immediately so they understand the full picture. Finally, Jerry's dojo is not a racket- many other shops charge you for each belt testing and additional extra fees are hidden in the weekly routine that you don't always realize you're being charged for until later. At Maloney's Martial Arts billing is straightforward with no hidden fees. It is very clear that Jerry is doing this for the love of the kids, karate and teaching them to be the best versions of themselves - not all the negative reasons that tarnish the sport. If your son or daughter is in need of more self-confidence and is considering karate, this is definitely the place to go! read more

Excellent teachers and coaches at Maloney! I have been impressed with Jerry and Angelica as they run their martial arts studio! It's clear by the walls filled with awards and family photos from students, that the studio has a close-knit family like environment that is focused on skill achievement!! Jerry and Angelica has taken care of immersing our two students into their programming by offering private orientation lessons prior to folding them into their larger classes. An approach that our kids have appreciated. Lots of parking available in front of their studio. I noticed some older kids and adults taking classes too. Definitely recommend others to check this place out! read more

Our son has been attending Maloney Martial Arts, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. He absolutely loves his classes and looks forward to going every week. Mr. Maloney and Mrs. Maloney are incredibly attentive, caring, and genuinely invested in each student's growth and success. Since joining, we've seen our son become much more confident, disciplined, and motivated. He takes great pride in working toward his next belt and enjoys every step of the journey. In fact, when we had to cut back on extracurricular activities, karate was the one activity he insisted on keeping. What truly sets Maloney Martial Arts apart is the personal care they show their students. When our son was sick and had to miss several classes, Mr. Maloney took the time to call and check on him. He has even called to wish him a happy birthday. Those thoughtful gestures mean so much and make every student feel valued and supported. We love this studio and all of the staff. They have created a positive, encouraging environment where children can build confidence, learn important life skills, and have fun. We highly recommend Maloney Martial Arts to any family looking for an exceptional martial arts program. read more

We've had such a wonderful experience with Maloney's Martial Arts and I truly can't recommend them enough. My son attends classes twice a week, and what stands out the most is the balance they maintain between discipline and encouragement. The instructors are incredibly patient, structured, and genuinely invested in each child's growth--not just in martial arts, but in confidence, focus, and respect. What I really appreciate is how consistent and thoughtful the teaching approach is. Classes are well-organized, and there's a strong emphasis on life skills--self-control, perseverance, and responsibility--not just physical training. You can tell this is more than just a class--it's a community. The environment is welcoming, and kids feel supported while still being challenged to do their best. I've seen a noticeable improvement in my son's confidence and discipline since joining. If you're looking for a place that truly cares about your child's overall development, this is it. read more

I have been going to Maloney's Martial Arts for over 20 years. The studio is more like a family environment. The instructors are great and very friendly. Jerry the owner does a great job of making sure that the classes have all the right information to help you both inside and outside the studio. Both of my kids have also gone there and had a great time. They are the best! read more

My son has been attending karate classes at Maloney's Martial Arts since March of 2022. Classes are twice a week with an optional Friday for those students who missed a class during the week or want to receive extra training. Master Jerry and his wife, Angelica, could not be better role models for children and adults. They provide a fantastic learning environment and engage the students where they are at in their process of achieving their next stripe or belt. Master Jerry and Angelica are constantly moving, watching, and engaging with the students in showing the proper techniques or forms, and then making sure the students are doing it correctly. Individual attention or words are shown to the students when needed. Students are not treated as "another number". There are also adult and senior classes that are offered at Maloneys Martial Arts. Plus, they also do birthday parties which are super fun for the children and well done. We highly recommend Maloneys Martial Arts if you are looking for a studio that offers great training in a welcoming environment at an affordable price. Thanks Jerry and Angelica. read more

Took a mom's self defense class here today with amazing instructors led by Jerry and Angelica. I signed up for the class through a school event with other parents. They teach you the basic moves: how to stand your ground, a firm core, and moves to use your body strength to fight against incoming attacks. The most important lesson they teach you is prevention! Environmental awareness, situational awareness and making sure we don't inadvertently make ourselves victims in the first place! They also reinforce to go around the world with good and if you live your life with good intentions and good actions, good will surround you back. Again, amazing instructors, effective lessons. I came out of it feeling STRONGER and confident! They have classes for all ages -- from 5 up all the way to their senior citizen classes! Highly recommend! read more

"As a 60+ mother, I was tired of feeling vulnerable in an ever-increasing volatile world. I always thought Karate places were daunting and beyond my capabilities. How wrong I was. In only a few months, the instructors have given me confidence to defend myself in a variety of circumstances. Through their never-ending encouragement and positiveness, I not only gained strength in myself but a sense of self-control over fear. Because the instructors teach with patience, kindness, and respect for themselves and others, those values are passed down to each and every student. Maloney's Martial Arts is that special place; when you walk through the door it is as if they, the instructors and students, have been waiting for you." read more

My two sons both attend this school since last summer. I have seen them become more confident in their skills. The instructors have just the right amount of humor and seriousness to keep the kids learning/excelling/growing and having fun. There is a lot of variety in physical and life skills that are taught here. It's nice to see the same kids return week after week improving. It's a great community. read more

1 year update review: Last year I decided to take advantage of the Mother's Day one month free special at Maloney's Martial Arts. Prior to joining the only regular physical activity I got was running after my active one year old and six year old. I was definitely yearning for doing something that was for me and as a child always wanted to take karate, but never had the opportunity. When I learned of the Mother's Day Special thoughts clouded my mind like "it's too late for you to get into karate", "maybe it's not the right time", but after talking to other moms who had joined decided to sign up. This decision has had such a positive impact on my life, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. Physically, I am the healthiest I have been since having children, I am more flexible, have better balance and stamina. Mentally I feel much more balanced as well. I have learned to better control my actions, my words and my emotions since joining. This has helped immensely in my home life as well as my parenting. Spiritually, I have grown and have a better understanding of the things that I am in control of. I have learned to put more positivity out into the universe and to take time and breathe before reacting to a situation. Overall, I am a much healthier, happier version of myself than I was prior to joining Maloney's Martial Arts. If there are any women or moms who are on the fence about joining I say take the plunge! It's not too late, you are never too old and there is no better time than the present to make a positive change in your life. read more

When our son started elementary school, we looked for a sport for him to have as an extracurricular activity and upon recommendation of a family friend we went to Maloney's Martial Arts. Even in that first class, it was obvious that Jerry loves what he does. He was patient with the kids without talking down to them, and the kids clearly respected him and the studio. Jerry teaches form and physical discipline, but also mental and philosophical techniques. The amazing thing is that it resonates with the kids and they retain it. His combination of mind and body teaching offers a lot more than other places we looked into that seemed to shuffle students through. We honestly believe that the discipline and skills our son learns at karate carry over to home life. Jerry is always talking to the kids about being respectful and kind, and everyone tells us how well-behaved, respectful and helpful our son is. We would highly recommend Maloney's Martial Arts. read more

Love Maloney's Martial Arts! Middle school is not an easy time period for kids. My son started attending here when he was in 6th grade, at the beginning of 2020, and I immediately noticed a shift in his attitude and engagement. I won't say it was a miracle cure, but it was close. As a family, we had visited other martial arts studios over the years. All of them felt big, cold, impersonal. Not so here, Jerry has a kind, mentoring nature that permeates the studio. We are not an overly competitive family and this studio fits perfectly with our philosophy and approach to life. Now that we are in COVID, I appreciate the fact my son can safely exercise outside with others. Everyone is masked and the numbers are small, so he gets a lot of personal attention. The moves have been adapted so they do not come into physical contact with each other, but they still have fun, learn and move. So happy to be here! read more

Our son has been attending classes at Maloney's Martial Arts for the last six years. He never wants to miss a class and even makes sure we get there early every time. Mr. Jerry is a great instructor. Master Jerry and his staff are simply great with kids. Master Jerry took time to interview both of us and our child to make sure this was a good fit, what we can expect, and what goals your child has. Excellent life skills taught, how to manage confrontation, and find forgiveness. Small class ratio so students get the attention they need. Very affordable, and parking is never an issue. read more

My husband and I are "Seniors" both over 70. We recently started a class geared towards older adults at the suggestion of our son and grandson who also train there. It has been great. We have seen an improvement in mobility, balance, circulation, and energy. It has also helped reduce the neuropathy in my feet and toes. Almost back to normal. We have also learned some ways to protect ourselves should someone try to do us harm. My husband is able to do things that were becoming difficult around the house, his strength is returning. Jerry and his staff allow you to go at your own pace and rest if you need to. A great place for all ages read more

As a senior citizen, I find Maloney's Martial Arts a great place to train and workout for better health and longer life. Here, the class atmosphere is friendly and without stress. Everyone is helpful and supportive. When I'm training, I feel like I'm in a support group. I work hard and I laugh a lot. After several years of training, I feel stronger, My movements are quicker, and also better balance. Mentally, I developed self confidence, awareness of my surroundings, techniques to defend myself when confronted. Jerry Maloney also taught me to respect my opponent, have patience and control over my actions. For all you senior citizens out there, who are contemplating about exercise for better health and longer life, come join me! At Maloney's Martial Art's and work out with this 79 year old martial artist. After all, what else is there besides better health and longer life? read more

Very happy with this school! My son is 6 years old he has been in a different school before. I pulled him out because I did not like the teacher's approach. I have also compared this school with other tae Kwan do and karate schools and this is just the best! Master Jerry's class is fun all about self defense, respect, effort, control, peace. Everything you read on the wall you will find in the classes and the way he teaches. He is very knowledgeable, respectful and has a nice peaceful vibe but at the same time you know he can really handle himself if necessary. I want my son to become a black belt in his school. Highly recommend this school! read more

As I'm writing this, I can't tell you how much I love & miss these guys right now! I have been a student of the school since I was a small child, back when my brother was an instructor, & he taught me my first technique. I was probably around 5 or 6? When I turned 9, my folks enrolled me into some classes, back when the name of the school was Lee's. Being a child of the 80's, raised on The Karate Kid & Bruce Lee, etc, I was in HEAVEN! Jerry Maloney was my first teacher. He is the ultimate big bro. As a child I had terrible self esteem. They had a student creed back in the day, that we would recite with each other before class would commence. Saying these very powerful, intentional words & then cultivating our bodies on the mat, I believe helped me evolve into who I am continually aspiring to be. Since then, Jerry has evolved the school further, & continues to. Not only to have a physical practice, but to cultivate our mindbody connection. I am 42 this year, & no longer live in the area. But in recent years, I have made a bit of an effort to make it back to class when it's good timing. I took 13 years to make it back, & one day just popped in to see who was around. A beloved familiar face greeted me with, "are you here to train?!" As if 13 years never happened... Maloney's Martial Arts is more than an exciting class I get to do when I'm so blessed, it's family! And it's family medicine. Sometimes I show up to practice, & I got all this garbage in my thought space. But after being surrounded by these beautiful, positive people! My energy, my spirit goes through any perceptions, any limitations. Everyone takes great care of each other here, & you can feel it! I can go on & on. Peace, love,& blessings to Jerry, Angelica(sorry I might not have your name right!), Manuel, my nephew Jason- an amazing human being I hope everyone gets to meet-& all of my classmates, whose energy is life changing! With so much of the world's current chapter going on, I believe the most important responsibility is to value your self, and to understand that your energy is not only precious, but vital to those around you. We can all learn to believe in each other a bit more, always, & this school is a great place to tap into this super power! read more

Master Jerry runs a great class for kids of all ages. Our nine year old started a few months ago and really loves the classes. It is a very calm, low pressure environment, but still has the discipline and structure you would expect from a Karate class. Almost starting from day one, he was sparing with other students and learning all the basic punches, kicks, and blocks. We think this is a great environment to encourage kids to stick with the training for a lifetime, instead of just a few months. There are no long term contracts, so it's low pressure for both the kids and parents. read more

I stopped in at Maloney's Martial Arts in October of last year to try out the senior self defense class. I was looking for something fun to do that would help improve my balance, flexibility, stamina and self confidence. What I got was a lot more. After just one class, I loved it so much that I decided to switch to a regular class. And, with Jerry's guidance, I not only exceeded my exercise goals, but learned some valuable self defense skills in the process. I love the friendly and supportive atmosphere and look forward to each class. Maloney's is the perfect place for all ages, even a 70 year old woman like me. read more

I've been training/teaching here for 16 years now & I love this place. The root discipline is Kenpo but Master Jerry Maloney has tweaked certain areas to form more of an American kenpo style. It's a great place for the kids & part of the curriculum stresses positivity & respect for others. It is constantly reinforced by the Instructors & I personally feel that adults need more constant reminder of this than the kids do! hahaha Anyways, come in & talk to Jerry Maloney & spectators are always welcome! I had to check out several schools out before I settled on this place but Jerry Maloney is just so sincere as a person that I just had to see what the school is all about. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life! read more

My daughter has been attending Maloney's Martial Arts for the last 6 years and I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions we've ever made. Jerry Maloney not only teaches the fundamentals of karate but he also teaches them to be better students. He enables his students to be strong and confident versions of themselves. Jerry's has a 7th degree black belt but that isn't his greatest asset, although it is pretty impressive, his greatest asset is his incredibly positive attitude toward all of his students. read more

When my son wanted to sign up for Martial Arts, I didn't know where to begin and honestly was a little reluctant. I had heard people complain about the whole industry being a bit of a racket with contracts and extra fees for testing and belts etc. I also had an impression of it being overly rigid and intense. But when a friend recommended I try out Lee's Martial Arts, I was pleasantly surprised and certainly now stand corrected. Master Jerry Maloney makes this the dojo it is. And it is an engaging, safe environment where students feel they can make mistakes and learn from them. The focus is not on competition or belts, but rather growing as a person and getting stronger both physically and mentally. Master Jerry Maloney has all the attributes of an outstanding instructor: he is reflective, he is masterful in his differentiation, and he has a true passion for guiding youngsters to becoming confident and self-controlled individuals who take responsibility for their actions. He's also commendably patient and positive. I particularly admire how Master Jerry challenges his students to be mindful of their thoughts, comments, and actions. (In this day and age of social media, we could all do with a little more mindfulness.) My son has been a student at Lee's Martial Arts for four years now and he always looks forward to class. He takes Master Jerry's teachings to heart and has used them to help navigate situations he has encountered. I couldn't ask for a better mentor and role model for my son or myself! Check it out! If I could give 6 stars, I would! I'll talk about the children's program, as that is where I have experience with Jerry. Martial arts can be a great way to help build confidence and strength in kids (and adults), but when you have a shy, gentle child, the classic approaches can be overwhelming and off-putting (I know from having visited several other programs with my son before settling here). Jerry has taken his courses to a level that keeps it fun yet teaches real-world discipline and skills. Throughout the classes he works on emphasizing values such as honesty, discipline and hard work. He focuses on helping children grown into not just great martial artists, but into great people. The impact on my 13 year old son has been amazing and my only wish is that I'd know about Jerry years ago to begin the training then. read more

I would highly recommend Maloney's Martial Arts! My son has been attending this school for the last 3 years, and he has gained so much. We love that the studio is very family focused and welcoming. The classes integrate skill building as well as helping the students gain better focus. I have really enjoyed watching my son gain confidence through the years from Jerry's instruction and guidance.
