The only problem is that like so many small country town shops they seem to see froth on your coffee as a sign of being able to make a fancy big city coffee. So whether you order a flat white, latte or a cappuccino you're going to find a good centimetre or so of froth on top! Once that is wiped away their coffee is pretty good. You can certainly tell they're on of the more popular places for an early coffee or brekkie pie by the number of trucks and utes constantly pulling up out the front.

This small town is known as the gateway to the outback, we drove into town at 0700 on a Saturday morning from the Hay Plains absolutely starving to have a decent breakfast. We decided to take a punt on Jo & Paul Fenna's Balranald Bakery, we parked the Model A Ford outside the shop & walked inside not knowing what to expect. I decided that I wanted a Bacon & egg Roll (with BBQ sauce), my travelling companion ordered a Bacon roll. I also ordered a double shot Latte Coffee. Jo made our rolls right before our very eyes, & their Barista Jodie made me the BEST coffee (extra hot) that I have ever had on any road trip I have been on. How lucky were we to JAG this pearl of a Bakery by chance. The staff could not do enough for us. Once we satisfied our hunger we hit the road once again on our journey to Glenelg in SA. After attending the Historic Bay to Birdwood Rally, & the Model A Ford Rally in Murray Bridge over the following 6-days it was time to head back home to Sydney. We could have driven home to Sydney via Broken Hill, however I decided that I wanted to re-visit our Special Bakery in Balranald just one more time to be spoilt once again by Jo, Paul & Jodie, that is how GOOD it is. So if you are on the road heading towards Adelaide on the Sturt Highway I personally recommend a PIT stop at the Balranald Bakery, you will not be sorry.

This place is pretty damn good…read more There's plenty of space to sit down and have a coffee and some lunch if you're travelling down the Mallee highway. They do a decent vanilla slice, the coffee is okay, and it's probably also a pretty good chance to grab that bottle of water you planned on buying as you left Adelaide but absent-mindedly forgot. This bakery supplies bread to most of the towns along this rather boring stretch of road. It's really quite good stuff. The staff are nice enough, friendly and efficient.
