Maker's Mark is off the beaten path within the Bourbon Trail having narrow, winding roads get you to the distillery. But wow was I impressed by this tasting and tour! My family and I signed up for an early morning tasting and tour. The grounds itself were extremely well kept and featured many art pieces and sculpture pulling in an elevated atmosphere. Staff all around were extremely friendly and welcoming. The tour lasted an hour plus a 15 minute tasting. We ventured through every part of the distilling process: ingredients, process, equipment, label making, bottling, history, progression. Our tour guide was fabulous! We ended with a (4) spirit tasting of both common and exclusive spirits. We ended in the gift shop where one can safely dip their own bottle purchased. The tour and tasting was $26 per person but included fair wages for staff. Overall, I was highly impressed with our experience at Maker's Mark. It left me with a new found appreciation for the brand and some highly personal bottles to take home with me. Tip: Bottling and label production does not happen on Saturdays or Sundays if you are looking to book a weekend tour. read more

One of the best bourbon tours I've been on. Very informative and beautiful grounds. It can be a bit challenging to get there as some of the roads are winding and tight. Definitely worth the trip. Great little bar behind the reception area to try a cocktail before your tour. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to try the restaurant. The tour was well paced and a lot of great information was shared. Got to finish it off by dipping a few bottles and enjoying a great sample of Maker's. read more

Great tour and beautiful grounds. Highly recommend. $25 per person, one hour and 15 minute tour. Not too long or too short. The staff were all so warm and welcoming which made us feel good to be there. Generous tasting at the end didn't hurt either! Our tour guide Michelle was awesome. She was fun and funny and most impressed me when she used the word "whom" correctly!!! That was awesome and so rare anymore ;) We heard some others on our tour said the Maker's Mark tour was so much better than the one they took at 4 R***s. Wear comfy shoes and prepare to be on your feet. The walk from the parking lot is a good distance and then you are standing for the whole tour. We def recommend! read more

Three-hour drive for Makers Mark, um yes please! We were staying south of Nashville for a mini vacation and Maker's Mark sounded like a wonderful day outing. One great aspect of the drive is really getting to see the back country of Kentucky, which is absolutely stunning! On arrival, you are greeted with the utmost hospitality from the staff. We made it just on time for the tour, which to be honest is one of the best tours I've been on in quite some time. Our host was so knowledgeable, funny, and just so sweet. In and out of barrel rooms, bottling lines, caves, and of course the tasting room was a treat. We sampled several whisky's (No E as a nod to the Scottish) and I was absolutely sold on all of them. We ended up purchasing a bottle in the tasting room shop so we could do the official "wax dip", which was well worth it quite honestly! All and all, I'd totally revisit in a heartbeat as it was such a great tour at a phenomenal price point! read more

ONE OF THE BEST. I've been an ambassador for 8 years waiting for my barrel to be ready. Golden Ticket and I'm there. We will wish it was that easy. Scheduled the first trip end of Jan when they had a huge snow storm. Canceled that and rescheduled for March. Easy to do with them. They make everything easy. Big problem on my part in choosing the WRONG transportation company. Never Never choose Spiritly Soul. They are just terrible. We finally drove to MM and we were welcomed with open arms. So glad to be there, Tasted the best bourbon from my barrel and took the tour with Taylor. She is wonderful. It's a nice long walking tour and I learned a lot. Especially why I like MM so much. It's all they make. AND they Make it great. From the water to the bottles it is fantastic. They have about 330 employees and I think they love their job. Jackie was my primary contact and I think I talked to her many times in a one week period due to a mix-up with the above mentioned terrible tour transportation. I was great to meet her and so much fun to get my bourbon. read more

The property is gorgeous, their sustainability efforts are impressive, the whisky(their spelling) is great and the Chihuly traveling installation was an extra bonus. Best tour, hands down!! You must go to Maker's Mark Distillery. I visited August 2024 on a fine hot summer day! Let's go back! You have got to become a Maker's Mark Ambassador. I got to graduate this past weekend, dip my own bottle, and tour this amazing distillery for free. Ambassadors get two free tour tickets. Plus, nice swag and emails keeping you looped in on all things Maker's Mark. Our tour guide was the best I have had so far. I've been on about 15 tours, and she's #1 so far. I love it when people tell history in the most entertaining ways. It's stays with you. We were late and got switched. Everything happens for a reason! I was smiling and laughing and learning the whole team. I got a name tag with an Ambassador pin on it to wear. It was a memorable experience. In the end, we got to try 5 awesome Maker's products. 46 is my favorite! My Ambassador bottle is the regular Maker's. I got to dip my bottle. My sister bought me an Ambassador rock glass. As a fan of Dale Chihuly's glass art sculptures and of course Maker's Mark Bourbon it was an easy choice to make. For one the distillery is a beautiful campus and even more impressive with the Chihuly glass exhibit. I initially thought about just getting the pass that allows you to see all the glassworks on the property($26 plus fee) but then decided on the guided tour as well($36 plus fee). Our guide was entertaining as well as knowledgeable. Taking the guided tour enhanced the experience. Then of course you get to experience the tasting. Frankly it would have seemed odd to go to a distillery and not do a tasting. I actually followed Google maps to get there but was told by an employee on the way out it was better to take State Route KY 49 on the way back to Bardstown. Considering you only saved 4 minutes the roads were a lot less narrow. This was less stressful. read more

Attended the evening Chihuly event. It was awesome the displays were amazing. Maker's does a great job with their events. The Maker's team is engaged and focused on making sure the guests have a great experience. It is a trip out to the distillery but you are rewarded for the journey. This place was beautiful, but extremely and unnecessarily pretentious. We simply wanted to taste Makers Mark in a tiny plastic cup and buy one or two of the $40+ bottles with the red wax. No free samples. The girls were very snooty ("we don't serve any free alcohol here") and we just got an unpleasant vibe from the place. We hiked the long way down to the "gift shop" and were met with the same attitude. The place is very hard to find on a winding narrow road, very poorly marked signage-wise and really quite a hassle to get to from the Lexington direction. We did get a shuttle to drive us back to the parking lot from a driver who did not even reply "Hello." Needless to say we left without buying a thing. For a much better, friendlier time go to the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. read more

BOOKED ON-LINE We paid for and booked our the basic 'Maker's Mark Tour' on-line about 4-6 weeks before our visit in Oct 2024. I had researched different distilleries and decided on this one based on reviews, knowledge of Maker's Mark and the property. I will say, we also visited the Jim Beam distillery 'campus' (we didn't do their tour) and ultimately, we decided we liked that property better out of the two. Maker's Mark was also a bit 'out in the boonies'. ARRIVED 30+ MINS EARLY We arrived at least 30 minutes early, checked in, used the bathroom and sat around until the start of the tour. They have a bar and couches off the lobby as well as some beautiful art and glasswork to look at. We met up with the tour guide just outside a side door off the lobby where a red sign says 'Tour Starts Here'. HIGHLIGHTS The tour guide lead us to lots of different areas of the distillery, inside and outside. At one point, you stand in a very cold room for 5 minutes. One highlight is the Chihuly glass ceiling, as well as several horse statues dotted around the landscape. The tour was about an hour and a quarter long. AND NOW, WHAT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR...! At the end of the tour, you do a tasting, which was the most fun part. QUALITY GIFT SHOP...WHEN YOU'RE HALF BUZZED! After you're feeling very happy from the tasting, you exit through the gift shop where you can buy bottles and souvenirs. We didn't buy anything. ONE TOUR WAS ENOUGH Overall, it was an interesting regional experience to tour a distillery while in Kentucky, although we felt the one tour was enough. (Plus, they get expensive). We did however, stop off at a few other distilleries to see their gift shops/grounds, including Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace. Free parking. Helpful? read more

We came here for the Holiday Sip n Stroll on a Thursday night. We had a great guide, who kept us entertained on our tour. We started with a warm cocktail and headed to the first stop. We got to see the entire process and there was an opportunity to dip a bottle on the actual bottling line. I always enjoy the tours at Maker's because I'm related to the Burks that started the Burks Spring Distillery, which was once on the land that Maker's is on. This was such a fun event for Christmas and I would definitely make this an annual event. read more

One of my favorite distillery experiences. We did the full tour and were taken to all part of the grounds. Which were beautiful. We saw their rickhouses, labeling, and distilling areas. All very impressive and clean! The tasting was generous and very informative. After the tasting we walked through a beautiful stained glass ceiling corridor which lead to their gift shop. Come here for the absolutely gorgeous setting and the connection to nature. Somehow, the company has been able to keep that going even while being owned by Beam Suntory, Inc in modern times. The tour gives you the feeling that not much has changed over the years, which is amazing. Our guide was amazing and answered all the questions any of us in the group could think of. Even the tasting experience is worthwhile. For me, I thought Maker's Mark was basically one choice. Well, now I know what staves are that can go INSIDE a barrel when it is aging. That was the "secret" to creating the 46 version which is the recipe of Bill Samuels Jr., son of founders Bill and Margie. This is our 3rd year on the Bourbon Trail and our 1st visit to Maker's Mark Distillery. The drive there was on narrow roads through the beautiful country. We were wondering if Waze was failing us because we were in the middle of nowhere, but we found it and happy we did. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The visitor center with their bar is gorgeous and the artwork in the buildings is amazing. Our tour guide was Griffin and he did an excellent job. He answered all the questions from our group and was very engaging. We learned a lot of history about the owners. At the end of the tour, we had a tasting and then ended in the gift shop. There you have the chance to dip your own MM bottle in their trademark red wax. Fun keepsake. Maker's Mark moved into my top 3 distilleries. I recommend adding this one to your Bourbon Trail itinerary. read more
