So many good things in this store. Lots of Sanrio, Japanese toys, blind bags & Asian cosmetics. (They have really nice, natural looking false eyelashes, if you're into that sort of thing.) They also have that good smelling Japanese laundry detergent-- the kind that's really hard to find online. Woman at the counter wasn't friendly. Just stood there and coldly glared at us. Seems like a common theme at a lot of Asian owned stores we've visited here in California so I just acted like she didn't want exist. Cool little store though. Worth taking a look. read more

This place is better labeled as a toy store with a meager selection of makeup/skincare products tucked away in the back. I remember when it used to actually be a store for beauty products but I was so confused as to whether I had come to the right place when I recently stepped in to find that about 75% of the store was lined with stuffed animals, toys, even a toy claw machine type thing. Do not buy from here as they have defective products. My family had bought 1 nail file set months ago and came back and bought 2 more two nights ago. But I opened mine and the case had a full stabbed crack on the front. We came back tonight to ask to exchange for another nail file set and worker refused, called her manager Jasmine and the manager rudely told us she won't exchange something from 2 weeks ago and that we had bought it at half price, neither of which were true since we paid in full and in cash and didn't get a receipt! I came back and asked for the manager's name and the girl at the register was back on her work phone talking and laughing rudely as well still. This review goes for both of the stores on this strip, Make adobo gets the pleqsure of also adding a terrible employee that essentially has a constant snarl on his face. Selling items like sunny angels for $30 is crazy considering they're buying a product with a suggested msrp of less than 15. Generally unfriendly on top of that. Made our family feel unwelcomed, I suggest you stick to other similar stores. This place and the place next door are a rip off, the rent can't be high enough to merit these margins. read more

Racist and condescending. I just had the feeling there was gonna be some kind of issue cuz of my backpack, however i recieve iv fluids 24/7 so i couldnt have left it in the car. But I figured if I kept my clip strapped over my chest (I use a tactical bag) and don't touch it and keep my items in my hands in plain sight it wouldn't be an issue. I noticed her hovering, but that's nothing new I'm fine with it cuz I know I have the money to pay and intend on paying. But then we're getting ready to check out and she walks up to me and offers to take my stuff to the register. And it wasnt an actual ask, she took the items out of my hands before I could even answer. I was still deciding on if I still wanted a couple things because I saw something better... and she didn't do the same for my friend. At that point I was just over it. And then she looked at my boyfriend and goes "We don't take cash, you need to have a debit card to pay" He wasn't even shopping for anything literally was playing the claw machines, and waiting for us to finish shopping so we can go eat. I looked at her and said that I do have a card, I don't carry cash and that he wasn't paying for anything... Then I was extremely over it. So I'm waiting on my friend so we can just leave. She looked at me and was like "oh your ready okay." Rushed to the register and looked at my friend and was like together or separate. I said separate however I do not want the items anymore because she was extremely rude. My friend was a tad confused. So I went and explained all of it and this woman's actions because I was just straight up baffled. All she saw was a black woman with a backpack, instantly thought I was planning on stealing. My friend was like yeah na, we won't be shopping here. My friend went on to explain to this lady that it's not okay. And to be even worse. I was literally showing my friend a few of my favorite places to shop and my favorite spot to eat. Literally have been going to this place since I was in high school, I was showing her alot of my favorite Japanese skin care items. Because let's be real, they are on point with their skin care items. she thought I was going to steal something when there are cameras literally every where in this small store and with her literally watching me and hovering around me the entire time we were there. She made a comment about the eye liner that I picked up, saying that it's a pencil becauseit was the 24 hour long lasting "tattoo" one. I was very well aware of what I picked up. I loved this place. First time here was a wonderful experience! My friend and I stopped by after grabbing dinner in the plaza. I was not planning to buy anything (I usually just walk into these types of stores to look around and usually leave without buying anything). This time, however, I ended up purchasing a Japanese eyeliner thanks to the assistance of one of the sales ladies. It was kind of pricey, around $21 with tax, but no regrets because IT IS THE BEST EYELINER I HAVE EVER TRIED!! WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was greeted immediately upon entering the store. The lady helping me is a really good salesperson. She listened to my needs and helped me accordingly. She was super positive and helpful. I told her that I was looking for a good waterproof eyeliner that is ACTUALLY WATERPROOF. (I've tried so many eyeliners over the past two years that claim to be waterproof, but end up smearing on me) The sales lady that was helping me was pretty persistent about selling me something, but in a good way, not in a rude/pushy way. :) I appreciate the time and effort she took in helping me find exactly what I was looking for. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when she told me this eyeliner is for sure waterproof and very high quality, but she seemed honest and assured me that she uses that particular eyeliner herself and loves it. She was very personable, so I took her word for it and I'm so glad that I did! I finally found an eyeliner that works for me!! It lasts ALL DAY, no smearing at all!! The product itself is on the pricier side for an eyeliner, but worth it in my opinion because it really is AMAZING! I really liked her recommendations and will be back. 2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 114/365 This store is pretty awesome! I happened to stumble upon it randomly yesterday as I was exploring Sawtelle Blvd and the number of Asian cosmetics drew me in! This place has Asian brands I have always heard about from YouTube beauty/makeup gurus, but have never seen in real life because I had always assumed you could only buy them in Asia, or had to special order them online. They had Dolly Wink false eyelashes which many gurus have raved about, and I was excited to see them IRL for the first time! They had pretty much everything you could think of in terms of makeup. Mascara, eyelash curlers, BB and CC creams, nail polish, etc. It was pretty amazing and I could have spent so much time in there! They also had Bioderma, which was something that is really hard to find in the United States and is more popular in Europe and Asia. I highly recommend this to anybody who wants Asian brand cosmetics! You'll be able to find so much here! :) read more

It's disheartening for me to see a skin whitening display whenever I go into a makeup store, and I have never received good service here (or a greeting... or a smile). The manager was rude and belligerent not just to me, but also to his own staff. A lovely young sales clerk helped me pick out an oil cleanser, which she buys from the store herself and is one of their top sellers. After I checked out, I notices that I had been charged $40 for the product when the label and display sign read $24.99. She tried to refund me the overcharged amount, but needed the manager's approval. Over the phone, I heard the manager insult and ridicule the clerk, saying that she was stupid for not checking the price and now he had to come down to do the refund himself because she was too much of an idiot to handle it. I waited 30 minutes for the manager to arrive at the store. When he did, the manager rushed in and grabbed the product from me, saying that the correct price was printed under the label. He tried to rip the label up and show me the "correct" $40 label underneath, but of course there was no other label underneath. I felt that he was trying to rip up the label so I he could destroy the proof that I had been overcharged. I told him that regardless of whether the product been mislabeled, he had to sell it at the displayed price. He angrily asked me where I got the product from and I showed him the display which was clearly marked $25. He then grabbed a completely different product off the shelf and claimed that that was the $25 one. Then he held up the product to my friend and started telling him to look and see that I had been wrong all this time. My friend, who had not been with me when I bought the product and had only just showed up, told the manager not to involve him. He then followed my friend as he tried to walk away demanding that he backup the manager's story. At this point, the manager refused to talk to me and only addressed my completely uninvolved friend. By the way he shut me out, it was clear that he thought my friend was actually my boyfriend and by talking to him "man to man" he could get my boyfriend to make me leave the store. My friend had to tell him several times that he had no idea what had happened and wasn't here when the purchase was made. Finally, I told the manager that I would report him to the Department of Weights and Measures. He then begrudgingly offered to void the charge. But as he was voiding the transaction, he accused me of bringing in this product from another store and trying to return it here to make a profit. He said that they didn't even sell this product, but keep in mind that the sales clerk picked it out for me off the shelf and said that it was their store's best seller. It even had the store's label on the back. I don't want any of my money to go to a manager that treats his customers and employees with such blatant disrespect and unprofessionalism. read more

I wish I could give 0 Stars. Beware of this rip off store. My 60 year old mother went there and got ripped off badly. They sold her a REFA Carat for $320.00 when she came home to show us we searched online and found the same devise for $100.00. She went back to the store the very next morning (less than 18 hours after sell) and was rudely greeted. She was told that there are no returns or exchanges (which no one mentioned the day before) She begged for them to take it back as she does not have the money to waste, but was just ignored. My mother called me crying from the store and asked me for my help to talk to them. I called and asked for the owner and was told she wasn't there and I could not have the name. I said I wanted the name so I could call back for her but she said she wasn't allowed to give out the owners name and hung up. How could you treat an elderly woman this way? Especially around Christmas time? My mother is absolutely horrified and feels taken advantage of. read more

There are little tags throughout the store to indicate which items are the bestsellers. I love this because I have no idea how to read Japanese, and I'm not aware of the beauty trends in Asia. I do not see any Japanese staffs here anymore and service has gone downhill. The cashier speaks Chinese and didn't help me at all, only assisted Chinese speaking customer. I went here yesterday because I just learned about this store on Yelp. You know that more often than not, when ladies say they are "just browsing around", that means they will end up buying something. I had a few items that I didn't plan of getting, but when I saw it in the store, I had an urge to buy them. However, the only staff in the store (a Japanese man) kept of following me beyond my comfort. Whenever I touch a tester and look at it, he'd take it from my hand and put it back where I just lifted it from. SO ANNOYING. Went in to by a special scissor and salesman told me which one it was, bought it and took it home and once I opened it found out that it's completely not what I wanted. I don't live close by so I went back a week later. He refused to change it or admit he sold me the wrong one. He said why didn't I call him. So sorry, I didn't know I needed to call him!!! He told me this isn't an American store and they don't give American service. He was pathetic. The store is pathetic and any person who just wants to sell you something for $16 and doesn't care at all about the customer doesn't deserve to have a business.
