I hardly ever say yes to that question, but as soon as I opened the door the scent of the chocolate just warmed my soul The brittle that was on offer as sample of the day was absolutely to die for. Best brittle I've EVER had & I eat ALOT OF brittle, I consider myself a connoisseur. Where they lost a star, was with the pork belly salad I had for lunch. The pork belly pieces were over cooked & too chewy & the salad was over dressed. It was advertised as Pork Belly with Orange & Fennel Salad, there was an OK amount of fennel, but possibly not enough Orange. For my beverage I had a milk & dark chocolate mixed together & it was GORGEOUS. Top spot for anything chocolate. Food could definitely be better. I really love giving credit where credit is due, and boy to Makana Confectionary deserve it! My friend and I just dropped by on a whim on our way into downtown Kerikeri. Immediately upon arrival, we were invited in with two delectable and decent sized free samples: a Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch and a Lemon Truffle. In a word, heaven. It is open confectionery kitchen with glass so you can watch all the love and attention that goes into each handmade treasure. All their confectionery is really a perfect gift and most boxes come 'gift wrapped.' Staff is super friendly and helpful...what's not to like? read more

Chocolates are a bit expensive, but it's really what you'd expect from a boutique chocolate factory. They do tastings and they have such lovely flavours. If you just want to try one or two pieces then have a good cup of coffee, try their cafe right next to the boutique store. Everything was super duper good. Oh, and make sure you try their gelato. I know this has nothing to do with their food, but their toilet is so cool. Haha. I swear, it's out of this world, not even 5-star hotels have bathrooms that beautiful. I was given a box of truffles and a box of the macadamia butter toffee crunch by a friend from New Zealand as a gift. I have just one word to describe how good they are - heavenly!
