We checked in to this adorable hotel hot and tired from a little bit of a walk- about 20 minutes. We thought we would take the lift up to the hotel rather than a cab from the Marina. The lift looks like it's a 5 min walk but in the humidity and wedges it becomes a challenging stroll pulling luggage on cobble stone. The walk to the lift winds through the public beach area down around until you get to a tunnel. So while everyone is beaching it we came tramping though in our linen pants, fully clothed, pulling our bags. New to town? Yup, that would be us fresh off the boat. Made for some great laughs. We looked like major Tourist alert but we kept good company because everyone there is practically a tourist. The narrow streets and the shops lined with shop owners standing outside watching you pass by made our inner traveler grin from ear to ear. So charming to take in. It felt like it was out of a movie. All the streets here have so much character and history oozing from them. The Maison checked us in and gave us an adorable room on the top floor. The color scheme and French door at the balcony made this a cheery, light place. The bath room is a nice size with a roomy tub, and stylish shower. There was no pool at the hotel which made my friend a little grumpy. Whoops. However, there is a small roof top deck to relax on after a long day of hiking, walking, shopping. They put a shower up there which made the experience all the better and inviting to lounge. Because this hotel is so unique and well done my friend got over the lack of pool. The Maison had a beautiful breakfast spread every morning where we met the proud owner, Maria. She told us she baked the pastries right there. When we told her we liked something in particular she would tell us the ingredients inside each decadent nibbles. Who does that? Maria does! She and her husband bought the hotel which was a former residence. They did a fabulous job creating this charming hotel with 12 rooms. The staff is so friendly and helpful, like family. The Air conditioning was much appreciated and cooled the room off in no time. The beds and pillows were so, so very comfortable with nice linens and thick towels. They have a hotel boat you can rent, or other stuff we didn't learn about until we left. Be sure to inquire within about all the services they offer because they didn't really push/mention these extra services which I suppose is a nice thing. This family also owns two restaurants so we asked to have reservations made at the one near the square. It had great live music, chilled Champagne, and yummy food hence there was a line to get a table. We enjoyed our meals and stay at the Maison Tofani very much. We were told by many to skip Sorrento when planning our trip. Say what? So glad we didn't listen, it is a must see through the eyes of the Maison Tofani hotel. read more
