My family and I stayed in Maison Kent for four days (one a weekend day) and had a mixed experience. I'll start with the positives:
Pros:
-Inexpensive in comparison to the surrounding hotels in the heart of the city
-Room was clean, sleek, and modern
-Bed was very comfortable, with fluffy pillows and blankets
-Location can't be beat
-Seemed sound-proofed well (although it could be that we just had quiet neighbors or none at all)
-Dishes, utensils, small refrigerator, and espresso machine provided
Cons:
-Very poorly staffed
-No consistent housekeeping service
-Overly complicated microwave
-No body lotion provided among toiletries (went to buy at nearby drug store)
-No tissues provided (also bought at drug store)
-The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in canisters on the wall were so low they were in danger of running out while we were there.
-The hotel refused to provide us with an additional fitted sheet, pillow, and blanket, leaving us unable to use the air mattress we'd brought.
We chose this hotel for its comparatively affordable price and central location. It's a beautiful place and we loved being able to walk to everything. However, the cons were severe. What stood out to us the most was the lack of staff. I don't know if this lack is due to pandemic short staffing or what, but most of the time we stayed here, the front desk was totally unattended, and we never saw a single staff member anywhere, in the hall or wherever--and we came and went from this hotel a lot every single day. Absolutely NO ONE was around. Similarly, housekeeping was nowhere to be found, and I didn't feel confident that we could ask for additional toiletries and actually receive them. By the last day, we were running low on toilet paper, so I advised my family to go easy on using it. I've never before worried about totally running out of toilet paper at a hotel.
What was really unacceptable, though, was the hotel's refusal to provide us with the linens we needed for the air mattress. We called at about 4 or 5PM and were told that it was too late in the day, that housekeeping wouldn't be available until the next day and no one else could get these for us, so we'd just have to do without. It was flabbergasting.
We had some trouble with the air conditioning when we first arrived, and THANK GOODNESS someone agreed to come by and help with it, but she had to actually drive over to Maison Kent from wherever she was because, as I said, there was no staff in the hotel.
The bottom line is that you can't expect Maison Kent to be there for you. It's really bad business to not provide basics such as extra linens and toiletries to hotel guests when requested. It's really bad business to not have SOME helpful and attentive staff in the actual hotel at all times should a housekeeping emergency arise or one of the appliances malfunction or... whatever. Stuff happens. Staff should be there. Picking up of your key card (and dropping off on the last day) is all done via a box. I question whether they'd even notice if we'd stayed an extra day. The place is like a ghost town. read more
