I remember going into her new spacious wood-lined shop and feeling that Wallflower had litterally grown with me. Over the years, my mom managed to quietly foist elegant clothing on me, no matter what phase I was in. Punk? Grunge? Skate Chick? GlitterGlam? AnimeJapanpop? Gypsy Queen? Somehow I never minded if it came from Wallflower.. more than that, those seem to be the pieces I've carried with me for years.. I had seen Liza's designs online, and decided to make the trip to her studio, which is in a renovated barn in Narrowsburg, NY. If you're fortunate enough to be exploring the Catskills, a trip to her studio is definitely in order. She has a large variety of samples to see and feel - there are many rugs as well as her Alto Steps collection of stair treads. Liza's designs are all thoughtful, ranging from straightforward to funky and whimsical. Custom orders take a few months to arrive as her pieces are made by Tibetan weavers. Liza is a pleasure to work with and she sent us home with a huge pile of different stair treads to try out. We wound up designing a rug and treads using her radio waves design and choosing our own colors. And installation is very easy. The perfect blend of antique and rustic. Sadly, they are only open on Friday and Saturday and by coincidence, tend to be closed on the weekends we can get there (like this one).
