This is a nice hotel a bit outside of Iowa City. Staff was great and checked us in promptly. The rooms were clean and spacious. The parking was well lit which was great because we were travelling for business and had some equipment we couldn't bring into the hotel. An absolutely fabulous hotel! Check-in was a breeze and the front desk attendants were incredibly helpful in providing suggestions on restaurants, bars and entertainment in town to check out during my stay. Parking is free, and the hotel is near the highway for easy access to everything Coralville and Iowa City have to offer. The room was perfect for my needs and then some. While I never took full advantage of the kitchenette, it includes an updated stovetop/oven, full sized fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. If you prefer to eat in, this is an awesome perk especially if you're staying for an extended period. The queen sized beds were comfortable (yes I slept on both of them, as I was traveling alone) and I was out like a log each night. The shower was hot and the pressure was great and made for a relaxing end of the day after being out in the cold Iowa weather in February. And who doesn't love a free breakfast? I know I always have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, but the reward of a full breakfast got me up and att'em throughout my stay. A fabulous selection of all the favorites whether you want a bowl of fruit or a waffle fresh off the iron. Great value for a great stay! We had a pleasant stay at Mainstay Suites Coralville. It's close to Iowa City and the highway, rooms are clean, beds are soft, and breakfast is great! So disappointed in this property! Should have known better. Extended stay rooms have odors from cooking. No bedside stand or lamp on right side of bed. Holes in walls that needed patching and painting. Vanity and toilet in bath were oddly low. Group of loud people outside of our window in parking lot both nights drinking and being very loud. I'd like to thank Mr. John Wilson the assistant manager for his phenomenal service. I have stayed at many choice hotels and this experience has been one of the best. I had an issue with the heating in my room which he helped me with, he was very nice about it and went above and beyond to satisfy me. The other workers were very nice as well. As for the rooms, they were very clean. My room had everything you needed to stay there for a week and cook your own food including stove, microwave, fridge, sink etc. Highly recommend to others. read more

The MainStay Suites in Coralville, IA is in a great location with all the amenities needed for a weekend stay. It is right off the interstate and within a 2-minute drive to the mall and various chain restaurants. This location also made it easy to catch a ride to downtown Iowa City via Uber or Lyft (approx.. 12 minutes away). The hotel was wonderfully quiet and our room was equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, cooktop, etc. Perfect for storing and prepping leftovers or some late night snacks. Hotel staff were friendly with a super quick and painless check-in/out. Breakfast was served everyday until 10am, which allowed us to sleep in. Good selection of both hot and cold items on the buffet, which left us ready for the day. We'll return! read more

Over all I really liked this hotel, the front desk was friendly and helpful and the room was modern and nice and clean. There were a few things needing fixed though. Our door only latched if you pulled it in after closing the door, the cold water was room temperature, and the hallways were a little noisy. That being said they have a nice continental breakfast, clean lobby, and spacious parking lot. Their location is also great as it is right next to the mall, restaurants, and Walmart. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The room was very nice and I slept great on my huge comfy bed. My room had a full kitchen and all the essential if I wanted to cook something. I was almost sad that I only stayed one night because my room had everything. The continental breakfast in the morning was pretty legit too. Huge spread and pretty good food. Miserable, best thing about my wife and I staying at this hotel was that the local Dominoes pizza delivered at midnight. First off, we had made a wedding group block off and booked the "bridal suite" in January. We called a week before the wedding to make sure early check in was ok. They found it almost impossible to find our reservation. We got the ok for early check in. The day of the wedding, myself, my groomsmen as well as some of my family were going to use the room to change. Got to the front desk at 1pm as agreed for early check in. They could not find any reservation, or anything even to do with the wedding group we had blocked. NOTHING. not even the group number that we had gotten in a confirmation email from the hotel. Managers were called, the clerk explained twice that she would call using her personal phone, but it was turned off because she hadn't paid the bill...don't care. Eventually what the manager that set up the reservation for us said was basically "too bad we don't have anything in here for you, but hey here's a single king bed for the same price." It also appeared that even though we were told that we had the "bridal suite" there was no such thing. Every mention of it was evaded by the clerk. By this time I was 15 mins late for pictures with my future wife after finally getting checked in and changed. Anyways after the wedding we went back to the room, I did an inspection. Torn carpet, weird smell, BROKEN couch, dirty dining chairs, dusty doors, musty smelling fridge. The temp in the room was set at 71 which was too cold for my wife. So we turned on the heat. The smell of burning dust filled the room and the smoke alarms all started going off. We also noticed that the hot water took forever to arrive through every faucet. Morning, went to the kitchenette to make coffee. NO creamer, not even crappy unflavored powder stuff. Oh! And only 2 sugar packets and 1 sweet n low. Ridiculous. At check out the clerk barely payed attention to us, if I hadn't shoved the room keys in her face we could have walked out with them. I will never recommend this particular Mainstay Suites to anyone....ever. Thank you for ruining an otherwise perfect wedding day. read more

Everyone made us feel quite, quite welcome and appreciated. Our entire experience during our first stay (Jordan checked us in 6/3/16 & John checked us out on 6/4/16, with breakfast smoothness provided by the cheery, very capable breakfast room hostess, Debra) was so far above average that I became a member. We returned on 6/10 - 6/11/16 based upon our very favorable first experience on 6/3 - 6/4/16. Our second stay was every bit as positive and, truth be told - exceptional. Any time our travels involve I-80 and Iowa City is a sensible overnight location, we'll most definitely stay @ MainSuites for (1) warm, gracious hospitality, (2) clean room & facility, (3) filling, hot breakfast, (4) overall superior experience! read more

Sorry not overly pleased with our stay here. Booked a suite at first glance looked nice nice kitchen but that was it, the couch in the living room (201) was filthy had to put a sheet on it to sit down. The bedroom had a king size bed that took up the whole room we had about three feet to the bathroom which didn't have an exhaust fan in it and the bathroom door couldn't shut which made things a little uncomfortable, another thing that was awfully strange no cold water couldn't even take a shower water was hot to hotter. If they fixed a few of these things it would be a average place to stay on a budget. read more

I thought this place rocked. The manager keeps this property top-notch, and is super-friendly. He's a lot older than he looks, but that translates into enthusiasm for his job, and making his guests feel welcome. This place has all the potential of a 5 star, but in good conscience, I can only give it a 4 star, and if I'd have found one or two more gigs, I might've given it 3 stars. 1) When I get into a new hotel room and find hairs in the sink, the a "red flag" from the git-go!! If somebody can't even clean the sink, it makes me wonder what else never got cleaned. 2) The back of the door latch that swings over the knob on the wall, is SUPPOSED to have three scews keeping it attached to the back of the door, but one of the screws was missing which causes the latch to swing very loosely to the back of the door. I doubt it would've held in place if somebody had really tried to force the door open. 3)...and I've got stink-bug types critters right on the night stand between the beds. Now I certainly had no problem killin' the dumb thing before I went to sleep, but it's a good thing I found that bug @ all...and BEFORE I went to sleep! All three of these issues were TOTALLY preventable by the hotel. Were it not for these issues, it would've been a five star!! read more

MainStay Suites is conveniently located just off the highway, between Coralville and Iowa City. It's easy to find and get to and about a 15 minute drive to anywhere you'd want to go to downtown. I found the whole building to be clean, cute and well-stocked. On the main floor, there's a small shop, laundry room, exercise room and dining hall. My room had a giant bed, great a/c unit, large bathroom and full kitchen, with microwave, toaster, big fridge and even a little stove. There were flexible options for housekeeping and hot breakfast in the morning. Every staff member was friendly, sharp and accommodating. Conveniently located hotel, surrounded by great restaurants and shops within walking distance and only three miles from Downtown Iowa City. The hotel was exceptionally clean, large spacious bathroom and the room came equipped with a full kitchen. The free breakfast each morning was perfect for us. They had hot food options and lots of beverage choices from juice, to tea and coffee. I was even able to squeeze my workout in with the gym in the lobby! I have mixed reviews about this location. Old friends stayed here a short time ago. I booked the room for them as I was told it was a safe, comfortable, convenient, friendly, clean place to stay. That was true to a point. It was safe, clean, comfortable, and convenient. And friendly, but to a point. However not every employee was friendly. One young man working there was exceptionally friendly, His name was Anthony and I met him several times as I picked my friends up for dinner. His upbeat demeanor and intelligent conversation was nice to encounter. Both my friends and myself enjoyed him. An older employee by the name of Jordan was another story. Not only was he short and surly on more than one occasion, to myself and friends. My friends and I overheard him loudly berating young Anthony where anyone in the general area could hear. It was unprofessional and despite what might have happened, should never have been done where the public could have witnessed it. I have worked in managerial positions my entire life from the military through the private sector and I have never witnessed such childish, unprofessional behavior as that which Jordan displayed that day. Some time later my friend overheard Jordan on a phone call relating the incident, bragging about how he treated the young man. Another example of poor managerial activity.While your suites certainly met the needs of my friends, I have my reservations as to whether I will book there again or whether I will encourage others to do so. Management is a position in which one leads, not bullies. It teaches, not belittles. Perhaps Jordan needs a refresher course in managerial duties. He is certainly lacking in common curtesy for his fellow workers. NOTE: I also wrote a review for TripAdvisor stating this very same thing. There is something interesting about that review the reader needs to know. Three days after writing that review, I was contacted via email and asked to edit my review, removing any personal information/opinions. I find that interesting. You see. Upon reading other reviews, I found many that praised certain employees had been left on TripAdvisor unedited. However I suspect, because my review pointed out a fault in a certain employee, and perhaps that certain employee panicked and my review was flagged, I was asked to sanitize the review. Oh, I rewrote it. And I will continue to rewrite it losing in praise for young Anthony but mentioning the lack of attention by management. GREAT STAY WITH WONDERFUL STAFF! We had a 74-day stay due to a school/work situation. Everything about the hotel helped to make that long stay more manageable. It felt more like an apartment instead of a hotel room. The entire hotel was always clean and well-maintained. Although we did not use the facility, the hotel had a nice, small workout room with fitness equipment, water dispenser system, towels, and television. The lobby even had a computer station and room with snacks/incidentals. The breakfast area offered a wide range of cold/warm items to choose from and was always replenished in a timely manner for guests - Wanda made us feel at home every morning. Our room was very comfortable and big enough that we never felt cramped during our extended stay. The beds and pillows were very soft and comfy, which gave us a restful and relaxing sleep most nights. (Noise from neighboring rooms can be an issue at any hotel, but the hotel staff supported a no-noise policy after 10 pm which was reassuring to us if problems occurred.) The kitchenette (stovetop, frig, microwave, dishwasher, and cabinets) was wonderful to have as it allowed us to feel somewhat at home with cooking meals. Pots, pans, plates, cups, bowls, and silverware are provided for guest convenience. While we didn't use the dishwasher, it was nice knowing that we had one if we wanted to use it. The bathroom was clean, well lit, and the shower head's water pressure was just right. The hotel staff were very professional, friendly, courteous, and cared about the quality of our stay. We sincerely thank Jordan, John, Wanda, Zack, Alissa, and the rest of the staff for a great extended stay...you made it bearable! We were in town for a baby shower and this was the only hotel we could find with vacancy.....because of a Home Hawkeyes football game. It was advertised somewhere as "newly renovated" so we thought we were in the clear. It was the kind of room that made you cringe. I never walked barefoot on the carpet or tile, there was a sticky funk on the floors that made a sticky sound when you walk. Carpet fraying in doorways. Dings, dents, and punctures on all the furniture. Not to mention grimey-ness on doors and walls. Like a splatter mark from a barbecue packet(?) on the hallway wall that was overlooked and went untouched bc it was there before we arrived and never cleaned up! The love seat was well worn with a pancake sized mattress. The bedding to the pill out love seat were balled up in a dresser drawer like they had been used and not replaced with clean ones! Gross! Lastly, The king size bed was a squeaky nightmare. When we talked to one gentleman about our "newly renovated" room he offered a % off our stay. He knew we were unhappy. When we went to pay the bill it was a different employee and she only deducted the agreed % off of one night, not both nights. Wouldn't 'off of our stay' mean the nights combined? That employee couldn't do anything bc the manager was not there. Didn't even offer to call the manager or anything. Needless to say, we took the discount for the one night and got the heck out of there!! Never to return! Mainstay Suites will be on my do not stay list! read more
