We liked the weekend zoom workshops baking things together and the end of year party was so great!a real family feel. The only thing I wish they had had during the year workshops was more than one teacher so the kids could have had a model for response to the main teacher for a stronger language output and to encourage more speaking among the kids in Spanish .The input they received was great. My kiddos loved it ( 1.5and 3) and ask to go back all the time just working out then budget.

This approach follows the natural developmental pattern of first language acquisition. As a result, it enables new language skills to emerge naturally, when the child is ready--much as they do when children first learn to speak their native language. By meticulously combining language input from the teacher with a focus on genuine communication as opposed to language form, our Spanish Workshop for Children program is carefully calibrated to match children's developmental needs at every stage of the growth process. It embraces the notion that each child is unique and learns in his or her own way. It then incorporates teaching methodologies and modalities that meld with the various learning styles. I wanted to wait before posting a review, that way I could wholeheartedly stand behind my rating…read more We have been sending our daughter to Mi Casita for nearly 6 months now and I can proudly say my wife, my daughter and myself all love Mi Casita. It is such a relief to be able to send your child to a daycare where they are excited to go and learn every day. My wife and I are both teachers (my wife even has an early childhood degree) so I feel like we were pickier than most when it came to selecting a daycare for our daughter just for the sheer fact that we know what is and is not good for young growing minds. Everything that is in place at Mi Casita is backed by research and satisfied all of our picky needs from a daycare center. If you don't know Mi Casita is a Spanish immersion School where teachers and staff only speak in Spanish unless it's a safety concern or something to that effect. Now we do not speak Spanish at home, from speaking with other parents a rough estimate is able 50% of families speak Spanish at home and 50% speak English or a different language in their homes. The school as a whole is a diverse learning community with students and staff from various backgrounds. I love that they specifically look for teachers from various parts of the Spanish speaking world as there are so many different dialects I feel like it is smart to expose these young learners to as many different accents and dialects as possible. The school is a project based learning environment, each month there is a newsletter that is sent out that goes over the unit that will be the topic of focus for the month. Teachers do a tremendous job of pulling together different resources that are age appropriate for students that tie back into the central theme for the month. We always enjoy seeing the updates on different projects the students learn about and create while at school. They have an outdoor play space with grass, garden area, sandbox, and asphalt track around the outside. They work hard to get the kids outside most days except when the weather doesn't permit. I'm of the belief that there is no bad weather only inappropriate clothing... But I'm sure not all parents agree with me when their kids are out in pouring rain haha so I understand why the students are not outside every day. However any day that students are not outside they get plenty of time in the gym for gross motor development. The gym is a large indoor play space with different shape mats, balls and obstacles for students to play on. They bring in outside professionals (who are awesome) to do afternoon enrichment like art, music and gardening. As a bee keeper myself I was so excited to hear that they have had an apiarist come in with a hive to speak with the older students about bees and bee keeping. My kiddo loves music day and I'm always sure to kill some time before picking her up so she doesn't miss any music time! In the times of COVID they have been very cautious (and rightly so) to keep all of the students and staff safe. They communicate through brightwheel (an application on your phone where you can see photos and short videos of your kid that the teachers post.) To keep everyone in the loop on contact tracing and communication on learning throughout the day. Payment is also done through brightwheel. I am a firm believer in you pay for what you get. I wouldn't get discount Lasik and I'm not sending my child to a discount daycare. It isn't cheap but well worth it. The teachers are top notch and deserve all of the praise in the world. The assistant in my daughter's room can do things with toddler hair that I didn't think was possible. Nearly everyday my daughter comes home with a new adorable hairdo but she won't sit still for us to even make an attempt. Haha. We are so happy to be part of the Mi Casita community, 5 stars, hands down, best decision for our young learner!

I've been taking weekly classes for a little over 2 months and can already great progress. Juan-Luis' way of teaching is super interesting as he knows how to challenge and motivate and quickly identfies which areas need improving. The approach is a perfect mixture of speaking, reading, and writing, plus a lot of fun and interesting conversations which makes the lessons really enjoyable. From the first lesson on, Juan-Luis was speaking spanish only at all times, so it was a true spanish immersion. Would highly recommend if you're really looking to taking that step and learning a new language in a fun and engaging way, with a truly noticable progress!

My first instructor was Victor, and now currently with JP. Their approach to teaching Spanish is quite good as in the first month I felt I advanced more than other schools & tutors I have tried. What's really great about the school is the number of educational options they provide students. For example, you can have tutors come meet you at any location (such as your office, coffee shop, or even a bar!) for a reasonable fee. Of course, they also offer online classes with video conferencing or just skype sessions 1:1. I highly recommend this school.

My husband and I toured and researched many schools in the area when our kids were first starting school and in the end, we decided Shipley was the perfect fit for us and for our children. I'll also add that as they have grown & evolved as learners (and they are very different kids), the fit still feels right for both. We were looking for a strong academic program, but our family believes that education is not just about test scores. Preparing our children for success in life is about values, self-confidence, friendships, and respect ....as well as excellent academics. We found that educational mission at Shipley. Also, as our kids have gotten older (now in middle & high school), I appreciate the "positive peer culture" that exists at Shipley. As they begin to look more to their classmates & teammates for cues about how to behave and what choices to make, I am grateful that their circles of friends take school seriously and care about the community they are part of. It is truly the teachers and coaches and other adults in the community that make Shipley so special. Yes, there are great facilities (as there are at most of the schools in this area) but it is the faculty that sets Shipley apart. They truly know my kids--their strengths, their weaknesses, ways to motivate them, where to support them, and when to push them outside of their comfort zone... They also embrace and celebrate the many different ways children learn. The teachers are just fabulous--they are proactive and engaged in student life and they respond to each child's needs--at whatever point they are in their academic and social development. The curriculum is responsive to the needs of the students while the academic vision is always pushing the envelope. Shipley does not have one model of a "successful graduate" that they are teaching towards - rather the teachers strive to find each student's unique gifts and talents and then help them become the best versions of themselves, in a holistic way. I really like that about Shipley, and I see my kids (who are so different from each other) developing along their own tracks and finding success and confidence in doing so.

When people think of Shipley they have assumptions of the demographics of the community. I admit I did. I myself come from the inner-city and a middle class income, and was nervous entering. Nevertheless, I never felt different. Shipley is a welcoming community, one that accepts everyone, that grants chances to those chances aren't usually given, Shipley is a community here to help prepare its students for the future. There is support beyond measure from the teachers, administration, students, families, everyone, because we are one. Before Shipley I didn't know what it meant to be selfless, however once put into the community I learned the meaning and I begin to embody it in everyday life. Growing up in the city and going to school there it was like a being a crab in the barrel, no matter how close you were to the top, someone pulled you down. I was never taught to uplift others. Instead I focused on myself and my own success. Shipley showed me to be successful I need a team and to uplift others because their success is just as important as mine. As I finish college and begin to truly embark on this journey of life I am nothing but grateful for Shipley building the foundation of the young woman I am today. I have defied statistics and because of the risks they encouraged me to take. I have gained a confidence that can never be broken. I will never again think of myself as a crab in the barrel. I am an individual who matters. Most importantly I know I am never alone in this world and I will forever use the teams I build over time to create success of everyone involved.
