On a cold but wonderfully sunny afternoon, we chose to arrange a wine tour at Magnotta Winery. We…read morewere fortunate enough to be led by the amazingly kind and incredibly knowledgeable Michael Ber, Assistant Manager of Retail and Events. The tour was fantastic for SO many reasons... Upon our arrival we were led to the beautiful and bright Awards room, housing the endless awards won by Magnotta for wine and spirits at events all over the continent and beyond. Michael asked questions to narrow down our likes and dislikes, the preliminary to our wine tasting. More about that later :) Our first stop was an information-filled walk-through of the machinery area where the wines are produced and bottled. From there we continued into the basement's Barrel Room where hundreds and hundreds of barrels of wine are stored. Old winemaking machinery added perfectly to the decor, creating an almost museum-like element. The decor all throughout the winery is old-world Italian style which created an authentic, peaceful mood from one space to the next. Once the tour was over, we were invited back into the Awards Room for the fun part... the wine tasting portion of the tour. It was then that each of us was given our personally curated flights consisting of 3 wines to try, each specific to our indicated preferences. We also opted for the complementing charcuterie board and focaccia bread (at a low additional cost) that truly brought out some of the more complex flavors of the wines being sampled. I would recommend this winery and wine tour for anyone who wants to fine tune their wine preferences and flavor profiles. We were never rushed, all questions were answered, and we left far more educated about the world of wine than we ever could have expected! It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and a great reason to indulge in some fantastic wine... not like anyone needs a reason for that!!! Pros: - Location (easy-to find industrial area near major highways) + free parking - Staff (professional & friendly) - Ambiance/Decor - Selection of wines - Taste of wines & food - Prices (of wines, tour & food) Cons: - None

We even tried one if their Vidal Ice Wines - oh my - how absolutely delicious! The staff are all friendly and can direct you to some great wines if you ask. They do not sell at the LCBO so the prices are about 40% cheaper than if they did. They have a great variety, including some beers (they have a brewery on deck). Definitely be back as I saw quite a few interesting wines. They even have their own vodka and brandy.

Booking the wine online was super simple - I just checked the website, read the descriptions of all the wine they had available to make, and put my order through. Now because I had been to a different location a while back, I didn't even have to come in in person to drop the yeast - they did it for me! I went with the German Riesling this time to provide a nice white wine for my wedding. The ability to choose sweetness was a great touch of personalization. And then several weeks later, I got the call to come in and bottle my wine. There was enough time for me to call in the help of my bridesmaids, and we made a really fun night out of bottling the wine. Even better was the fact that we got to taste it before the conditioner was added to make it even sweeter. The wine ended up not only way more cost efficient than buying from LCBO, but also it was a huge hit at the wedding! I would highly recommend this experience to any new brides.

It was so easy & fun! - Step one: Choose your favourite wine, & make your appointment online. You'll then go in for your first appointment, where you'll do the "yeast drop". This process takes a couple minutes - you're just adding the yeast to the grape juice. - Step two: About 6-8 weeks later, you'll get a notification that your wine is ready! You'll go back to the store & start the wine bottling process! The first step is to fill each bottle with your wine using their bottling station. - Step three: Using their air-powered corker, you'll cork each bottle! - Step four: Choose a colour of neck sleeve for your wine. Using a heat gun, you'll shrink wrap it to the top of each bottle. - Step five: Apply your labels to each bottle (they're stickers, so it's easy to apply!) - Step six: take home & enjoy!

My pleasant experience at Vintage Vines grew over the course of three events. First the appetizer…read morewas a virtual info session. Next the main course was the shop visit for a sampler & placing our wine order. Finally the dessert culminated when our icewine was ready! While the shop's Lakeshore location is tight from the outside, there's plenty of wine passion inside. Certainly don't sleep on this LCBO alternative. I came this weekend to pickup our holiday icewine batch, which we ordered 8 weeks earlier on the prior visit. You could say we were tempted by the golden nectar! In mythology Bacchus might be credited with viticulture & wine creation, but during the winter freeze is when this specialty wine comes to life. Icewine is pressed from frozen grapes resulting in small drips of this concentrated & uniquely sweet nectar with about 13% alcohol & 200g/L sugar content. Upon opening a bottle, we're quite ecstatic about how our Riesling icewine turned out. True to form, bold notes of honey, peach & sweet citrus were evident within each full body sip. If typical late harvest is 7/10, this is 10/10 on the dessert wine scale. While this isn't your award-winning Niagara icewine, the charming taste of this Winexpert Après batch pleasantly surprised us at its price point. Celina was knowledgeable & friendly, flexibly offering us a half batch as well as providing labels & bottles for our order. The deal was too sweet to pass up for 15 icewine bottles. DIY bottling option is available. Having previously tried our hand at bottling, we opted for the convenience of pickup. Glad the end-product received was literally a vintage vine. Thanks for giving us a Riesling to review!
