I booked a stay with House 5863 through Expedia from July 12th to 14th 2026. On his Expedia page,…read moreit said that minors were allowed and the minimum check in age was 21. Expedia marked it as a "pay at property," for a total of $378.36. Two days later my card was charged by the property for a total of $563.20. It said that the card was manually entered, so he took my information that I used to book with Expedia and abused that. The owner of the property sent me a terms and conditions sheet via text and asked me to sign it along with asking me to send over a government ID. Before signing (which, I never signed it,) I read over the terms and conditions report, which was not present when I booked, and it stated that no minors were allowed on site. I was traveling with my 14 year old sister, so I questioned him about this and he told me that no minors were allowed and I couldn't stay. I asked him to either make an exception or refund me due to the mismatch in information. He said he wouldn't do that and cancelled my booking on me while refusing a refund. I also figured out that the extra $200ish that he charged me was for a deposit (which also was not listed on Expedia) and a property fee. To my knowledge, it's illegal to have hidden fees now, so I don't understand why that wasn't included with the upfront pricing. He then ghosted me, so I tried to contact both Expedia and my credit card to get my money back. Right before ghosting he said that I needed to contact Expedia despite the fact that he directly charged my card. Expedia said that the money had to come back from the property, yet every time they contacted him, he refused to do so. My credit card viewed it as a valid transaction since I booked it myself, however, I noticed upon going through documentation that he provided to my credit card company that he forged my signature on the original terms and conditions report that he sent them. Throughout this entire process Eric was extremely rude and unhelpful. This guy is a scammer...do not believe the good reviews, he's an opportunist who will take advantage of everyone who comes his way. Notice his responses to poor reviews are all copy and pasted...maybe the reason he survived the horrible recession of 2008 and the pandemic of 2020 is because he takes money from everyone he possibly can. NEVER BOOK HERE, I just lost a whole month of rent because of this crook.

And because I rented it out, sight-unseen, from New Mexico and rolled into town the day I was meant to rent it out, I was so impressed at how the business end was tailored to accommodate my situation (I couldn't pay, or even give a deposit to the owner, until the day I arrived - as a dozen girls had to mail me their share of the cost). We arranged the Friday thru Sunday stay for my sister's bachelorette party and it was an incredibly pleasant experience. All the girls thought the house was to die for... It is a no-joke mansion. I suppose if you live in a castle somewhere you might think it's the usual thing, but it was jaw-droppingly beautiful to us. We spent much of our first day and a half there running into each others rooms and shrieking "DID YOU SEE THIS/THAT?" Everyone who has seen the photos is amazed at the place, and my extended family is thinking of renting it out for next year's family reunion since it's super close to Wrigley, and that's kind of our thing. :) *** N - thank you so much for a lovely weekend and all of your help. The staff is extremely responsive and knowledgeable. They are there if you need them (typically very shortly after submitting a request) but they are by no means breathing down your neck. I appreciated the protected bike parking, the wood floors, the new kitchens, and the air conditioning the most. Oh! And the laundry facility on the first floor is clean and I don't think I ever saw another person there in the three years I lived there.

I live out of state, so I needed a trusted team to sell my tenant occupied condo on the North-side of Chicago. Not only did Christen sell my home in the off market and at list price but she went OVER and BEYOND to work with my tenant (who started out slightly disgruntled). I routinely see cockroaches in the hallway, even though an "exterminator" comes once a month to spray. I'm have filed numerous complaints at both the city and state level. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.
