We both agreed these were the best cocktails we had in Dresden or Berlin. I had their take on a negroni, which was fantastic. Mom had the Nude in Spice which was a wonderful adventure of flavors. Some standouts to me were the lapsang (Smokey tea drink), the edible Negroni which was a Negroni with deconstructed elements that you can mix and match which was really interesting, and the martini was great as well. They had some really interesting gins there. One of the gins I tried was some Estonia which was pretty cool. She made my martini with a Finnish gin which I have had many times and is a really good one. The sauerkraut drink and the coffee drink were really interesting. Not sure if the coffee drink worked and I think I prefer a different liquor like vodka or tequila for an espresso martini. The sauerkraut was kind of funky and a bit weird as well. But it is a nod to Germany so I liked how they had that on the menu. Free popcorn all night with a nice curry flavor spice on it. This was a pretty expensive bar but a nice option if you're going out. Also, apparently a reservation is recommended but we were able to get seats at the bar. We were supposed to leave at 9:30 but they were able to seat the other group somewhere else so we could stay at our seats which was pretty nice. The bathroom is in the hotel, but are doing renovations so you have to ask for a keycard to go up to the fifth floor to use the bathroom there. A bit inconvenient but the place is super nice so it's not that bad.

The Neustadt was a particular jewel in the crown, and I found pretty much everything about it, from the punks with pitbulls on strings, to the jazz bars and independent restaurants both exciting and fascinating. The Tiki bar, in the Kunstohof passage, is perhaps a bit more mainstream than is the norm in Dresden, but still very loveable. The Hawaiian theme is corny, but fun in a style reminiscent of the mid 90s, and there always seems to be a good atmosphere regardless of whether it's a Monday afternoon or a Saturday night. Having had cocktails, ice-cream and a Fruehstuck on my visits here, and enjoyed them all, I've got to declare Tiki as one of my favourite bars in Dresden. I was sad to see the little lizard disappear though, I hope nothing bad has become of him.

When Therese H. asked for "Kein Brot" with her salad, the server said it always comes with, just don't eat it. The thought of delicious-but-dangerous wheat products coming into contact with her other food is not a prospect Therese H. relishes. So the server's response struck her as insensitive and uncaring. As much as I enjoyed by basic meat and potatoes, an unhappy wife makes for an unhappy life. Sorry, Alex, you're just not for us.
