We have been involved in an ongoing dispute beginning May 2022 in which MVEC WITHHELD Electric…read morePower for a period of nearly 4 months and caused undue duress financially, mentally, and physically, until Members complied with their numerous demands at member's expense. Expenses which were direct and indirect consequences of the actions of MVEC. We asked for a simple disconnect/reconnect to wire our 90 year old home we had just purchased safely and correctly. When we requested reconnect MVEC instead sent a representative with the first of multiple demands including an easement, new transformer and pole at our expense, two new meters even though we had one previously, and more which resulted in 4 months without electricity, inability to reside in our new home, need to retain a second residence and second mortgage, credit card debt to fund the over $10,000 of work demanded by MVEC. Harassment, mental duress, emotional stress, marital strain, etc.
Member has been informed by the PUC that due to MVEC status as a cooperative MVEC is exempt/not party to the usual governance by the PUC or EROTC.
We have filed complaints with consumer protection, Public Utilities Committee, Better Business Bureau, directly with MVEC, MVEC Legal Counsel Ruben Pena, MVEC Board of Directors, Texas Cooperative Board of Directors, and the Federal Trade Commission. All of which failed to give us any assistance with excuses about MVEC being a cooperative and not party to rules and regulations governing a public utility company.
MVEC is the ONLY electric utility provider as they have the choice to opt out of offering other companies as an EROTC alternative. They have a monopoly in the area that no public utility company would be allowed to hold.
MVEC continues to deny any responsibility, take accountability, or apologize for the consequences of their actions.
In all with credit card expense, the demands imposed on us, two mortgages, two sets of utility bills, foreclosure notices, construction materials, defaults on renovation loans as without electric we couldn't start renovations, sell our other home, or live in our new home, we have a total debt of over $225,000.00.
Despite all the paperwork, recorded phone calls, emails, notarized documents, and complaints nothing has been done to correct this issue.
