The dosas are so good I would come and eat by myself just to satisfy my cravings...that I'm having right now as I type this review...noms! Paneer butter chicken..just...so delicious! We ordered this cauliflower manchurian gravy dish and ordered it mild but it was still spicy for me so be warned! But it was still so good..basically worth swearing it out while I ate lol My husband was initially very skeptical coming to a vegetarian resto. But tell me why he's ready to go back again tho??? The best South Indian vegetarian place that I've eaten at - as good or maybe better than Nilgiris! The reason why the food pics are all half eaten is because we could not wait to tuck in! The aroma was authentic and so was the taste. We ordered Mysore Masala dosa, idly, vadas, ghee roast. We also ordered mango milk shake (different from mango lassi). Everything was delicious. The Vadas were totally awesome - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! The waiters were attentive and kept up with the customers inside. Highly recommended!! read more

Every dish we got was amazing. Idli was soft and fluffy. Dosas were crispy and the stuffed curried potatoes were flavourful. As with any South Indian restaurant, the spice level might be a bit much for some. This place still has a lot of learning to do!! They literally opened a month ago and they are definitely still figuring things out. I would have given them 3 stars just because they were a new restaurant but they definitely need help. My visit and experience here could have gone much better because they were lacking basic qualities of a good restaurant. SERVICE: Before getting to the food, I want to start off with the service because we were completely dissatisfied. We called to make a reservation for 7:30pm ahead of time for a table of 8 which they said okay to and when we got there they were very puzzled/surprised we even had a reservation. They should really keep tabs on who answers the phones and the reservations that are being taken. The lady sat us down for a table of 6 instead and waited for 2 more chairs which she completely forgot about. We then waited for menus or to be served with water for about 10 minutes before the lady came and asked us if we were ready to order...WHEN WE WEREN'T EVEN GIVEN MENUS TO LOOK AT! She gave us 2 menus for a table of 8, which I was super confused about. They were not even busy at that point. Once we ordered our food (appetizers and menus), we were hoping to get appetizers and drinks right away but everything came together with the mains, which made no sense. Why call it appetizers if you're going to bring it out at the same time as the main?? Our food took 25-30 minutes to come, again with no appetizer. Once we got our food and drinks, we were given 1 spoon, 1 fork, and couple of napkins FOR A TABLE OF 8. I didn't quite understand what was going on or if they were lacking in resources, but they really need to step up their game. We had to constantly call the waitress to give us napkins, utensils, to fill our cups and more, but they should be doing it on their own. They were failing to clear out used plates as well which made it difficult when they brought out new dishes. Once we were done, we waited to be billed or the receipt to be brought over to us; however, after waiting for 10 minutes, we decided to go up to the counter and pay ourselves. It looked like they had a total of 3-4 working and their restaurant was busy by the time we left, so they definitely need to hire more people and get acquainted with what a good restaurant/customer service looks like. FOOD: Nothing was great and nothing was horrible. There was no "wow" factor when eating their food. Everything was mediocre. The gobi 65 was a little too oily and greasy for me but the sauce that it came with was great. Gobi 65 is basically deep fried marinated cauliflower and is supposed to mimic the chicken 65. We got the poori with curries which also tasted alright but again, nothing special. We thought we would get a lot more curry but we were quite disappointed when she received curries in 2 small cups (compared to other places). Poori was great though- light and non-oily! The kara dosas were super basic and something that I could have made at home. The orange chutney was the best thing on the plate and the rest were again mediocre. The green chutney was very bland. The dosa was crispy and was stuffed with mild potato stuffing which was alright. Cheese dosa was good but could have used more cheese and less ghee/oil. The veggie biryani was okay as well but could have used a bit more flavour. The masala teas were amazing! It's the best thing about this restaurant. The mango lassis were smaller in size and should be much bigger especially since it's priced for $4.99 (it's the size of half a water bottle). SPACE: Good space and very spacious. It's also a clean environment and has the potential to look even nicer. Many tables. PRICE: $$ Pricing is good. Its decent and affordable but doesn't match up to the quality of the food. For example, the mango lassi is $4.99 basically $5 but is served in a mini cup. They should review that. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back here and I recommend you wait a couple months so they could learn the business, customer service skills, etc before going. read more

I came here to eat their thali and now they say they only serve it in weekend. Thsi restaurant also is now only open in evening. If you dont want to be in business just close down your place! Why waste other peoples time. You cant charge like normal restaurants and not even stay open and continue the menu. Very disappointing! read more

My wife picked up some panner and chappati. The chappati looked and tasted like papadam. It was over cooked and over priced. I wouldn't recommend this to any vegetarian. The panner was so salty! read more

Durham needs a good dosa place. I was really hoping that this place would have come through, but it needs more work. First the good: Food We ordered the Sambar vada for appetizer, Masala Dosa, Poori, and kadai paneer. The food is the only reason this place got two stars. We found it very fresh and flavourful. The Bad: Service Horrible! This place apparently has been open for over 5 months but they act like they just opened. We went on a Friday night, it wasn't busy at all. While waiting for someone to take our order, twice we were presented with someone else's order!?!? Can't you see that we still have both menus on our table?? When we did finally order, we waited. In between a table of 8 arrived. We thought to ourselves " good thing we got our order in" . So we waited.. and waited..and waited.. finally our appetizer shows up! Soon after my Poori, so I'm thinking the Dosa will arrive shortly and we can begin eating right?? Wrong!! The table of 8 that just arrived started getting Dosa!?!? Where is ours? We asked the lady and she made up some story about the griddle having trouble getting hot, which was complete BS! Don't lie to your customers. If that was the case, no Dosas would be coming out! By this time we both shared my Poori, it was finished before the Dosa actually arrived, so we didn't get to have dinner together. Unacceptable. The other guy serving came over and apologized saying he made a mistake and gave our Dosa to that table of 8 instead of us. Anyways, for the type of service we received any reasonable restaurant would have taken the Dosa off the bill, not this place!! If your going to get into the restaurant business, you gotta be on your "A" game. You must leave a good impression. There is no excuse for bad service, get more staff! Train them! Best South Indian in Durham region, far better than the famous south Indian restaurants of Scarborough. And it's a pure vegetarian which is a Plus for vegetarians like me. Tried Veg Thali couple of weeks back during a Sunday, service was very late every time even though there were only 10 tables. Prepare to wait. Dhal not cooked well, vegetables were not fresh, many items were tasteless and even the curd was sour. Can get better meals and service for the price! Not busy most weekdays so I thought I'd giving it a try anyway the second time. I thought of ordering my favourite but they didn't have it! Ordered curd vada and masala dosa( have to request as it's not in menu) Food - not fresh.. Sambar is not that great, tastes like old and reheated. Chutney was cold so obviously stored in refrigerator for hours( or days?). Why to go to a Restaurant when we get frozen food in Indian stores? Dosa was ok but burnt in the ends Thayir vada was sweet, which I didn't expect. Not South Indian. Would avoid going there next time. Finally, an authentic South Indian restaurant in Durham! Everything was delicious! We had the Manchurian noodles, fried idli, vegetarian Thali and a dosa. Everything was freshly prepared. The service was very friendly, and the restaurant was clean. We will definitely be returning! Been here half a dozen times. This is the real deal when it comes to South Indian food in Durham. If this is your first time trying South Indian, try Idlis/sambar vada as appetizers followed by Mysore masal dosa as the main dish. This is if you are really hungry / have large appetite. Otherwise one of idli or wada followed by Dosa. The fried chili is also awesome to try. I haven't tried any of the North Indian dishes as this is really a food joint specializing in South Indian food. Enjoy! read more
