Walked around Taksim square after dinner looking for dessert and we came across this place, glad we decided to take a leap of faith and go in. Cute store with different levels but their balcony level was absolutley beautiful. Considering us being in a tourist place, the dessert was not expensive. It was about $10 for each of us. I got 2 baklava and it was absolutely delicious , you can most likely won't find one like that back in states. We also order a kunafe small stray and it came with the most delicious goat ice cream, they are to died for! Service was quick and friendly. Solid coffee, but the baklava with ice cream was SO good. It was very unique of a combination and I love that their ice cream is so thick. They also have a large food menu so it's definitely an easy place to stop for anything. read more

We came in for a big Turkish breakfast and the food did not disappoint. Upstairs, they have a nice seating area with a balcony. Everything was delicious and fresh. I will say, however, the server was a bit mean and seemed very frustrated with everything we ordered. read more

Very delicious goat ice cream that is affordable price. They don't do the tricky turkish show on you but it's very good turkish ice cream. I would want to go here several times for actually good turkish ice cream. read more

Ice cream in Istanbul in December? If is MADO, definitely! Serving ice cream since 1850, MADO takes its name from a combination of the city "Maraş" and "Dondurma", the Turkish name for ice cream. In addition to the location on Istiklal Caddesi, they have locations throughout Turkey as well as in Greece, Dubai, China, Australia, The Netherlands and more. Dondurma is made from salep (ground-up tuber of an orchid) and mastic (plant resin). These ingredients make the ice cream firm, more resistant to melting, chewy and sticky. Our three flavors were served like shawarma with a knife and a fork...and it was a challenge to cut! Try also a sample, or two, of their fresh Turkish delight. Loved the pomegranate with pistachios. I always drooled over these sweets so finally, after 5 years, I decided to stop in and splurge. I'm from the US and the US sweets are icky sweet. I so wanted to love this dessert, but it, too, was icky sweet. The cake seemed dry and not fresh but the taste was good. Service was excellent. I'm a harsh critic because I'm a baker and can tell fresh and creamy from old and sugary. At least now my craving is gone. read more

I love their ice-cream. They have lots of franchises all over Turkey. So, I'm familiar with the taste. My friend and I went there and ordered ice-cream. It was almost midnight and there were only a few tables full of people. When I tasted my chocolate ice-cream, there were really teeny tiny particles in it. My friend was not able to see the difference but I knew it. I kindly asked the waiter to see if there is a better version of it. If not, I'd cancel my order. I was pretty sure they were going to turn me down but a coupe of minutes later he came with a fresh cup of chocolate ice-cream! It was as amazing as usual. The service here was really crap. The waiter asked my two friends where they were from because they had fairly light skin and when I asked him why he didn't ask me, he said it was because I was from India. Being born and raised in Canada and speaking fluent English with my friends, I was a little annoyed. The service didn't improve from there, it was curt and had no signs of warmth. The dessert we ordered was ok. I got the kesme tradition ice cream plate and my friend ordered the kunefe. Both were good, not amazing. Maybe it's because the service was such balls! Terrible terrible terrible service! Food is okay for a chain. Somethings ordered were not served and wrong things were served that were not ordered. Entertaining though, given how horrible the service was, you finally get the "it's so bad that it's good". Fun fact though, the location was perfect. You can take a breather between shopping by having some sweets. Then when you look down, there was a heavy armored riot control vehicle driving through the middle of the heavily pedestrian-ridden street, and you knew no matter how peaceful this city appeared to be, beneath the surface, the civil unrest and other regional specific conflict was looming, and you wondered, how long before this city could be under siege and how soon would it be before it was no longer safe to travel to for Americans? Until then, enjoy some bad food service, laugh at the restaurant's incompetency, while soak in the culture and the astonishingly gorgeous scenery this city had to offer. read more

Can get fresh air in terras , good for icecreams and sweets. The tea was good too. Gazandibi was not the best i have had in istanbul but not very bad. Lemon icecream was very good. read more

I asked the waiter for 9 Turkish baklava pieces and I asked if we can eat them there. The seller said of course, and I wanted to pay..... He insisted to pay at the end.....when the "surprise" hit me: instead of paying 300gr, he charged us with more than 1euro/pcs, because we eat it inside...but he never mentioned the different price, so I paid over double the price.... Service was horrible, a comedy of errors as they kept bringing the wrong items and insisting we had ordered them. Delivered items were missing components. My review is as a tourist. Order the Kunefe! My husband and I ordered a few deserts, coffee and tea. The Kunefe changed my life. It is made with kadayif, which is a stringy phylo dough that's crunchy and delicious. The kunefe is like a patty of that pastry with melted cheese inside (tastes like mozzerella but is Turkish). A little sweet and a little salty. I have been trying to find it at other Turkish restaurants and nothing tastes as good as Mado's. We ordered the chocolate, vanilla, pistachio ice cream with baklava...meh. Wasn't bad but wasn't as good or unique as the kunefe. Fun presentation with the coffee and tea, but that just may be the Turkish way :) Makes coffee in the States seem really boring. read more
