Very delicious goat ice cream that is affordable price. They don't do the tricky turkish show on you but it's very good turkish ice cream. I would want to go here several times for actually good turkish ice cream.

    Baklava galore!

I love baklava so I was in dessert heaven when we stopped by here. My friend had the profiterole and I had the pistachio plate with ice cream. The menu is several pages of mostly sweet treats, but there are savory meal items available. If I am blessed to visit Türkiye again, I will absolutely stop by here.

There are multiple Mado bakeries scattered across Istanbul. They offer a diverse range of delectable treats that are flavorful without being overly sweet. During our visit, we decided to sample their ice cream, opting for a variety of flavors to try.

Very satisfied with this restaurant. I know it's a chain, but it's still very good. I only had takeout, but what I got was very good. Everyone was very nice. Just a note, they do add a service fee on the bill.

    Such a delicious cafe

Ice cream in Istanbul in December? If is MADO, definitely! Serving ice cream since 1850, MADO takes its name from a combination of the city "Maraş" and "Dondurma", the Turkish name for ice cream. In addition to the location on Istiklal Caddesi, they have locations throughout Turkey as well as in Greece, Dubai, China, Australia, The Netherlands and more. Dondurma is made from salep (ground-up tuber of an orchid) and mastic (plant resin). These ingredients make the ice cream firm, more resistant to melting, chewy and sticky. Our three flavors were served like shawarma with a knife and a fork...and it was a challenge to cut! Try also a sample, or two, of their fresh Turkish delight. Loved the pomegranate with pistachios. Great place to take a break from sightseeing.

Two types of Baklava - 3.5 stars, a little hard, too much honey (Saturday lunch 2015-05-23)

Central location, good selection of desserts, we got great service around noon on a Saturday when they weren't too busy and were still setting up. They do have Wi-Fi here as well. Pricey! Two baklava pieces (a bit hard, too much honey), one scoop of pistachio ice cream (not the best texture), and two coffees (good! Though I'm not picky) cost 25.50 TL without tips. See my photos for more detailed food scoring.

Have to say their Turkish Delights are unique and really amazing. For dine-in, we ordered different teas and Salep and it was good.

I always drooled over these sweets so finally, after 5 years, I decided to stop in and splurge. I'm from the US and the US sweets are icky sweet. I so wanted to love this dessert, but it, too, was icky sweet. The cake seemed dry and not fresh but the taste was good. Service was excellent. I'm a harsh critic because I'm a baker and can tell fresh and creamy from old and sugary. At least now my craving is gone.

I love their ice-cream. They have lots of franchises all over Turkey. So, I'm familiar with the taste. My friend and I went there and ordered ice-cream. It was almost midnight and there were only a few tables full of people. When I tasted my chocolate ice-cream, there were really teeny tiny particles in it. My friend was not able to see the difference but I knew it. I kindly asked the waiter to see if there is a better version of it. If not, I'd cancel my order. I was pretty sure they were going to turn me down but a coupe of minutes later he came with a fresh cup of chocolate ice-cream! It was as amazing as usual. As it was late and they were really tired, they have put up with my taste police. The second cup is the white one with fresh chocolate ice-cream with pistachio on it.

Terrible terrible terrible service! Food is okay for a chain. Somethings ordered were not served and wrong things were served that were not ordered. Entertaining though, given how horrible the service was, you finally get the "it's so bad that it's good". Fun fact though, the location was perfect. You can take a breather between shopping by having some sweets. Then when you look down, there was a heavy armored riot control vehicle driving through the middle of the heavily pedestrian-ridden street, and you knew no matter how peaceful this city appeared to be, beneath the surface, the civil unrest and other regional specific conflict was looming, and you wondered, how long before this city could be under siege and how soon would it be before it was no longer safe to travel to for Americans? Until then, enjoy some bad food service, laugh at the restaurant's incompetency, while soak in the culture and the astonishingly gorgeous scenery this city had to offer.

Step inside and on the walls you will see featured articles about this place aka Karakoy Ozsut* We not only discovered our favorite breakfast dive in Istanbul at Karaköy Özsüt but a new friendship was made between us and the owner Hasan. For that, Karaköy Özsüt will always have a special place in our hearts. The interior is unimpressive and the fluorescent lights are dull. But, this is what it gives it soul and for their sake, we hope Karaköy Özsüt remains the perfect way it is. Known as having one of the best kaymak in Istanbul, Karaköy Özsüt has its own herd of buffalos whose fresh milk is used to make kaymak (Turkish clotted cream) that makes up a huge part of a traditional Turkish breakfast. Hasan frequently drives his truck out to his ranch, 125km away from Istanbul, where he milks the buffalos and gathers the milk to produce kaymak. At one point in conversation, he whips out his cell phone and shows us a short video of his baby buffalo at the ranch. Awww. A heaping of kaymak and honey are served together on a plate; smeared onto bread and eaten. The kaymak here put us right into a clotted cream high with its smoothness and creaminess. There is something about the Turkish clotted cream that despite its indication of "cream", it does not leave you feeling heavy and sluggish or like one of those feelings where you feel you've really had enough of NY cheesecake. In fact, after a breakfast full of kaymak, I dream of eating it again and again. Another must-have classic Turkish breakfast item is menemen: scrambled eggs made with tomato, cheese, spices. Sucuk (spicy Turkish sausage) is a common favorite added to menemen so be sure to request for that. The menemen is flavorful while exploding with different combinations of spices which we could not tell what exactly they were except to just savor each spoonful of it. Hasan also makes the best lentil soup, ever. We have been hooked since.

It is probably my favorite dessert. I mean, how can you go wrong with cheese baked in a semolina crust and soaked in sweetness? I researched places to eat Kunefe near the Galata tower and Yelp showed me Tandir. It is quite close to the tower and we walked in during one snowy evening around 8pm. We were the only patrons in the small space and the kunefe was made fresh from scratch. No pre-prepared stuff here. Needless to say, it was delicious! It was not as mind-blowing as the ones I had in Akko and Haifa, but it is great. There are other desserts on the menu, but I went here to eat kunefe alone. The place is nice and clean with a visble kitchen and you can see them preparing your dessert. They do not have a lot of options, but if you want to come specifically for Kunefe then might be worth sitting down. As for the desert itself, the texture was amazing, and highly recommended for everyone with a sweet tooth. It was crispy, fluffy, warm, creamy, syrupy tipped with pistachios. For me little too sweet, but I imagine they are supposed to be that way. I cannot handle too much sweetness but just the texture of the dessert makes me want to have it again.
