This is a great rent-able venue. Small town Stuart has some…read morehidden gems and this is one of them. This is a piece of history that you can rent for your event. Great venue for bridal showers, family reunions, graduation parties, etc. Very clean facility and very reasonable rental price. This is the second time our family has had a reunion here. The parking lot is smaller but accommodates well. It was built in 1897. There is one area where the historical information is accessed, however there are beautiful photos everywhere in the depot. There are tables and chairs. The pictures I took show the room full up with the tables. It gets full in there. Its gets loud with lots of people talking. It's a really cool venue with a lot of history. No trains went by while we were there, but it was right next to the tracks. I know that we are going to use this location again in the future. I hope lots of people get to use this piece of history and keep it alive.

It appears that the powers that be with Yelp either combined it with the Iowa Veterans Cemetery as a whole or renamed it. Please see my original review below solely about the Freedom Rock located here in the cemetery... As far as the cemetery itself. This place holds a special place in my heart. As a US Navy veteran I've turned in my paperwork and have my spot reserved in this garden on stone. There's something about the uniform rows of white... The honor they command as they represent the men and women buried beneath them... It can just stop you in your tracks and slow your heartbeat for a minute. You'll find me here pretty much every Veteran's and Memorial Day for services. And hopefully...many years down the road... You can come visit me here too amongst my brothers and sisters in service.

Established on July 3, 2008, this cemetery is well-maintained by the Iowa Department of Veterans affairs who do an excellent job tending to the gravesites and grounds. The tower itself is lovely and a nice to see. You can walk around inside and out and go up to the…read moresecond level via stairs. You can even go up to the rooftop but the ladder/stairs are very steep and you need to be careful. When we visited, another person that was on site said that the roof had been cleaned up considerably and that there is typically a lot more debris , so again be careful, but the structure is beautiful and makes for great photos. It needs better signage for hikers and bikers for sure though as it can get somewhat confusing and the roads in and out are narrow one-way roads but it's definitely worth the trek.

Constructed in 1926 this 25 foot tall castle like structure was built on the 18th anniversary of the founding of Madison County. As a testament to its construction Clark Tower survived being struck by an EF 4 tornado in 2022!

Nothing says you are in Des Moines like the Travelers Sign down town…read more The umbrella sign was erected in 1963 on top of the Insurance Exchange Building on Grand Avenue in Downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The sign was the logo for the Travelers Insurance Company until the logo was abandoned in 1995. The Sign is 50-foot wide sign, that's about 40-foot tall, can easily be seen driving down I-235 and is is still one of the first sights that drivers from the east notice when approaching the downtown on I-235. This is a must for photos! You can now see the sign all over local t-shirts and mugs as a Des Moines Landmark! I personally love that our city is being covered from the storm by a giant umbrella!
