For my anatomy scan of my final child, I was scheduled for an ultrasound at the Sutter Maternal…read moreFetal Medicine. This was an emotional scan for me as it was our first son and last child to join our family and I had wanted my husband there for support and also to be a part of that experience. I was told there was only 1 visitor allowed per their policy but that day my younger child was sick and older child did not have care early in the morning since daycare was closed. I had called at 7am about an hour before my appointment to inquire about keeping my children with me for the appointment and was told by the service person on the line she would speak to a supervisor and get back to me. A few minutes later the receptionist on the phone said it was allowed and she said noted in my chart. Ultimately she said it's up to the care team but she informed me the supervisor approved and was noted in my chart for the visit. I went at 8am with my children and husband and was told that I was only allowed 1 visitor nonetheless despite what I was told on the phone (despite my efforts to call early). The policy sign did not specify the age of the visitor and they told me that I could not even bring my older child despite her being well behaved at 6 years old bc they now said visitor had to be 18 years and older. This was extremely confusing to me as a patient and obviously I took time off work to come to this appointment and made it months in advance. The whole appointment from the front desk receptionist to the ultrasound technician-- they made it about themselves, not caring about what the patient thought, overriding me and implying I was the problem and said I was causing the appointment to run late and the technician said "I'm already rushed" even after I said "I'm sorry to rush you." The staff receptionist lead (I don't know her title, they don't introduce themselves but she was an African American lady) actually even blamed me and treated me as a child berating me saying "you need to put your phone down right now! Our policy does not allow FaceTime or phone calls. My staff can hear you from the hallway and it is causing danger to my staff." I was only talking to the ultrasound technician and expressing my concerns. There was no yelling on my part, just some sadness and soft sobbing. I didn't understand why there was no empathy. They blamed me for rushing their staff and causing their staff to be in danger telling me to take a deep breath and chastising me rather than calmly explaining the reasoning behind their policy or showing me the policy. Also the sign out front said "1 visitor allowed" but did not specify the age or any specifics involving children when there are no other choice for caretaking. What do single parents do? If the policy is so strict and enforced, the expectation should be laid out to the patient ahead of time and the clinic both failed to do so and on top of that blamed the patient. This is unprofessional and unacceptable, even after I apologized. I didn't feel like I had anything to apologize for. There is no empathy with the staff and they really did not have to tell me to put down my phone when I was not recording or FaceTiming or calling. I was quietly tearing up and crying the whole appointment, even though it was supposed to be a happy occasion. My baby was healthy and I was looking forward to it for months, only to be ruined on the day of by the unprofessional attitude of the staff who was not clear on the policy, creating strain on my family and my emotions, blaming me for not understanding and treating me like a second-class citizen. The clinic also did not offer options to reschedule but just said "you can choose to go to a different place if you want but we have this policy here and you can either follow it for leave." I had no other choice but reluctantly followed. Still there was no apology or empathy given the highly confusing and strenuous situation esp for a pregnant woman. They didn't offer to reschedule and just said "you can go elsewhere where the policy is different and allow more than 1 visitor or kids" This is for: 1625 Stockton Blvd. Suite 205 Sacramento, CA 95816

Most people are coming in excited and happy, but she manages to shift the mood in the opposite direction. We're are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, only for them to be 15 minutes late. After interviewing several midwives, my husband and I knew almost immediately that Tel was the right fit for our family. Choosing Tel as my midwife was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy. The care I received throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey was truly exceptional. From our very first meeting, Tel created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, voicing concerns, and exploring all of my options. They consistently provided thoughtful, evidence-based information and resources, helping both me and my husband feel informed and confident in our decisions. What sets Tel apart is the way they combine deep clinical knowledge with genuine warmth and compassion. Every interaction was met with professionalism, respect, and a level of care that made me feel truly seen and supported. Throughout my entire journey, I felt heard, empowered, and safe. Tel honored my choices, respected my body, and ensured I had informed consent every step of the way. Looking back on my birth experience, I feel so grateful that Tel was by my side. Their guidance, support, and trust in the birth process helped make one of the most important experiences of my life incredibly positive and empowering. I cannot recommend Tel highly enough. If you're looking for a midwife who is knowledgeable, compassionate, respectful, and deeply committed to providing outstanding care, look no further. Home birth is so natural but it is imperative that you have a trained guide to walk with you beginning to end. Look no further than Tel and Taproot Midwifery. I was adamant that I wanted a home birth but my husband was a bit skeptical due to lack of exposure, until we began our prenatal care with Tel. Tel made us both feel immediately at ease and fully trusting in them to provide the best care possible and when it came time to welcome our baby into the world, Tel was the best person to do that with. I always felt heard and my concerns were always taken seriously. I also learned so much about my baby's development along the way. My entire pregnancy journey was made better by Tel and the Taproot staff. If you are interested in a home birth then I can't recommend Taproot Midwifery enough.

Beck was there before, during, and after our birth to answer questions, provide information, and even give suggestions when asked. As someone who was somewhat skeptical of doulas I was very happy with the evidence based information and support she gave us. In addition to giving advice, she was great emotional support for my wife and myself during labor, and was a strong advocate for our vision of the birth. When we had to change our birth plan she was there to reassure us in the decisions we had to make, and remind us of the ultimate goal. Her warmth and genuine care for us makes us feel like we have a lifelong friend, and future Doula for any of our pregnancies. One of the best things Beck did was make herself available by phone and video chat. This made scheduled and impromptu visits easy and gave us some flexibility. It's also crucial during this time of social distancing. Beck went above and beyond what we thought we were paying for and I would recommend her services to anyone.

Prior to our birth date, Beck met up with us (outdoors and with masks due to COVID) to learn about our preferences and to start to work on a birth plan. After our first couple sessions, she typed up a 1 page document for us that we could give to the doctors at the hospital so everyone could be on the same page and informed about what we were hoping for. She has a very sweet demeanor and is super knowledgeable about all things birth-related. For our final session pre-birth, Beck came into our house to show us some comfort measures we could use during labor. Both this session and the previous one lasted about 90 mins and she answered any and all questions we had. Finally, on the day of our birth Beck really shined. She was available very late in the night when my wife started contractions, and stayed in touch all throughout the night via text. She was always available for us, which made us feel really comforted. When it was time to head to the hospital, Beck was on time and did SUCH a great job helping us through our delivery. She was supportive, knowledgeable, and did a great job of communicating with the hospital staff to make sure they followed our preferences throughout the whole adventure. Beck stayed with us for a few hours after delivery (and even came over to our house a few days later to make sure everything had transitioned well to our home). Overall, Beck is a great doula, and I'd highly recommend her services to anyone looking for some extra advice or assistance with their birth.
