Well, I don't have to be creative with adjectives. Here's the reality. Some students write how nice is the campus, and others about good teachers. But if you're studying online ...! I've been on the phone now to services connect - a phone help line for students for .... just checking, yep 1 hour and 42 minutes - and online via chat for 23 minutes, and still no answer to either of these. Today is 2:41 pm Monday the 21.07.2025. thanks, read more
I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy... Ok, no I don't even go here, but have spent many an hour staring at my books blankly in the library and cutting through to Macquarie Centre over the years. Mac Uni's gone through a decent amount of renos recently and is a lot slicker than it used to be. The old library was a great place to study, though it took a while to find a desk amongst the many floors with all their nooks and cranies. I've yet to venture into the new library however it looks like it gets a good deal more natural light than the old one did. Good for study breaks too with a decent food court, Macquarie Centre nearby (dangerous for procrastinators!) and heaps of coffee carts selling fair trade coffee. More recently I've discovered the gorgeous grassy knolls near the lake, a great place to soak up some vitamin D with a book, particularly if you're looking for somewhere quiet on the weekends. Just watch out for the duck poo. read more
I'm just here for one class so take with a giant grain of salt. The feel is very corporate, much like Murdoch University in WA. Thoughts I'd branding and corporate sponsors and such come to mind. In my undergrad years elsewhere, the intent of the university was to drive students to an early grave, not to make money. My post grad years seem more noble but my student debt tells another story. Anybroke, I feel like the undergrad program's reputation for being rigorous seems to be based in part on the massive challenges faced by its large international student population of non-native speakers who struggle with lectures. This is based on my experiences with a small sample size of 2 as well as a hilariously conversation overhead at the train station by native English speakers on some sort of study abroad year. I've had experiences with several post grad programme and they seem solid. read more

Having gone to UTS to study, I only wish I had enrolled at Macquarie. Renowned for its open air fields and great social life, Macquarie attracts many students from the North Shore, Northern Beaches and other surrounding areas. They have on site housing and the university is well established. While not the no.1 in Sydney in terms of academia, it certainly is improving. Recently, a new medicine building was opened attracting a calibre of medical professionals and students. It is however one of the four/five major universities in Sydney. While the study times are not as flexible as UTS (with evening classes up until 10pm at night), the social life is up there with Sydney University (if not better). Macq has huge festival style events which attract thousands of students from Macquarie and other universities. read more

The grounds are great with endless green areas, showing off the beautiful autumn tree, which is something that is different compared to the concrete jungle of UTS. I went to Macquarie University after experiencing some courses at both UNSW and UTS, and I was delighted by the level of experience of the professors and tutors, and their sometimes unconventional methods of teaching. MacQ has a great range of sporting facilities including a newly renovated gym and ample bike storage around the campus. It's a lively university life with a lot of international students living on campus, and using the university bar for cheap drinks and organised parties frequently. The range of students and degrees are business and office oriented, and don't include design or architecture or more of the creative industries - their main cliental of students are international from Asia, but this doesn't necessarily make the minority of locals feel uneasy or overcrowded. With a newly renovated Library and medical learning centre, the educational facilities are only getting better, and with a beautiful campus and great professors and tutors, it's a win-in for best University in Australia. read more
I studied here and took random classes for a semester in 2011. I was visiting from Indianapolis and had never been out of the country before. Go big or go home, right? MacUni was the perfect way to transition from my home Uni to an international Uni. It has beautiful views of waters and nature. It has a gym and workout facility. It has an AMAZING library that everyone should check out. (Be prepared to not actually study though, there are always so many people there.) It has a local gift shop and restaurants on campus. AND it has a place for you to stop by and grab a brew in between classes. What could be better? And to top it off, MacUni hosts Conception Day every year - a music festival on campus bringing in the best local acts, including some big headliners every now and then! I thought the class sizes were what you would expect. It ranged from 15 students or so in my class to a lecture for my microecon and would have up to 200+ students in a lecture hall. Most of the professors were great, and I found that they really did care, especially since I was an international student, even though the uni has tons of them. One of my favorite memories was during a future student open house type of event where we got to perform in a flash mob on campus. It was so much fun and will always be in my heart and memories! Thanks for a warm welcome, MacUni! read more

A quality education is one that has been cultivated by the right professors in a nurturing atmosphere with a plethora of resources at your disposal. If there was an opportunity to create a functional and updated university, Macquarie has all the right stuff to build a student's educational foundation upon. All of this was evident when my brother graduated. The Chancellor was collected and well spoken, there were a variety of graduates and degrees spanning different ages and ethnicity and the special guest speaker (a graduate of Macquarie and recent hire as a new professor of the university) even quoted Steve Jobs' famous Stanford speech (prior to his passing). Now this graduation was much different than my Sydney University experience. That was more formal, more traditional, more...boring. What impressed me the most was the post graduation festivities. A jazz ensemble, various graduation services (photos, frames, memorabilia) and (drum roll please) the catering. Ok this is where they got me. The finger food they provided was incredible. Fresh chicken sandwiches, spring rolls, vegetarian options and macaroons that will blow your socks off. Champagne, tropical mixers, wine, coffee and tea to wash it all down. Ok enough about the food. What I really liked was the combination of making the graduates feel celebrated while also catering to the family and friends who supported them was thoughtful and forward thinking reflected the university's philosophy towards a students education. read more

I am an external masters student with Macquarie University and have had a very poor experience thus far. I have been frequently met with an overt disinterest by administration staff and extremely poor communication to boot. I have often made several requests to get in contact with a Head of Department or an academic, which increases the likelihood of a concern being rectified, but am similarly received with a response of 'how did you get this number?'. Having studied externally with two other institutions I definitely feel disadvantaged with Macquarie University and have thoroughly removed my recommendation. read more

Lets just start out by saying .. DO NOT GO HERE. As a study abroad student, this school is lacking in every aspect compared to American universities. I decided to come here for a semester, and boy was that a waste of money! The website makes this place seem like heaven on earth, but it was far from that for sure. Lets just start out by saying that I chose Macquarie as it is in Sydney.. little did they mention it is one and a half hours away from Sydney by train or bus. Difficult to get anywhere, but luckily enough the have a shopping center close by! The campus? HA! They make it look like Brown University- but it looks like something out of Buffalo Bill's basement. Old buildings that are distasteful to look at and even enter... spiderwebs everywhere. Too bad they dont give you a real virtual tour of the campus. Even the new library is a waste of money.... hardly anywhere to find an outlet to charge your laptop. There is only one location as the entire rest of the library is powerless! It might be an Eco-friendly anti-laptop thing? Dont expect to take your online tests there! They did not forget, however to use filtered purified rainwater to flush toilets though. Residential area for international students? THINK ABOUT WHY THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PICTURE OF THE APARTMENTS! THE PLACE IS A DUMP! Plus... listen to this.... they forgot to tell you... THEY CHARGE YOU for internet. They charge you per gig (which, depending on your usage could be 100 gigs a month) and better yet... when the thirty days is over and youve spend money on data and havent used it... you lose it. Ive never attended a school where they charge you for internet... but like I said... if you plan on not buying internet... dont think about going to the library... there is nowhere to charge your laptop in order to use the campus wifi! Plus, Maintenance and other students (RA's) have access to you apartment... AND THEY LEAVE YOUR DOOR WIDE OPEN.... THEFTS HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. The gym? (though this is not an important aspect of college, one would hope to use it every once in a while) THEY FORGOT AGAIN!! THEY CHA CHA CHA CHARGE YOU EVEN MORE MONEY. something about 350 a semester for the gym. But it gets better... normally a gym at a university is for students... fine... 12 million on a gym and 350 fee... ok... but no... its a community gym with 8 year olds running around naked everywhere ALL DAY LONG. Probably 30 percent are students and the rest just occupy that thing we call "space". Pool? forget about it.... kids lessons all day.... weight lifting? Half of it is designated for women... (why?)... and then they seem to creep their way out and lift in the mens section departing their treasured womens sanctuary to do butt lifts all day leaving everyone else standing around wating for an opportunity to work out. Full all the time with people mostly standing waiting, asking themselves why they even showed up to watch the beasts do the only exercises they know... butt exercises. But men ... dont think you can go reap the advantages of an empty womens fitness sanctuary... because you will be thrown out. Make sense? i didnt think so either. The classes? Horrible! I have learned nothing at this institution... I could go on forever about this, and all of my American friends agree... this education was sh*t. Go somewhere like University of Sydney... im sure your money will be better spent. read more
