Awful hostess. She should look for another job. Customer service doesn't seem to be her cup of tea. Barber was very attentive and customer friendly. A bit unorganized though. I go to barber once a week at home and he's more organized and efficient. Clean head and beard shave for 32 € is a very good price. If you want to come here. Book online to minize contact with hostess. As she cannot speak that much english and is just plain rude.. All in all very good if you remove hostess from the picture! read more

Machete in Monti has several well trained barbers. I've been here twice for beard trims / shave. Both times I was well taken care of and pleased with the result. As far as I can tell, Machete doesn't offer hot shaves with cream. They apply oil and straight razor it from there. While this is a first for me, and not quite as relaxing, it has turned out fine. Their barbery perfectionism makes for excellent shaping. As for experience, they've got rockabilly on the radio and vintage paraphernalia around the shop, but doesn't feel old timey. There isn't much room for people to sit, chat and hang out. No arcade cabinets, mens magazines, coffee bar or spirits. I have been offered a coffee each time I went in, that is produced in a closet somewhere. They have a few English speaking barbers, and the receptionist speaks English as well. I've walked in both times, but I think they prefer appointments. Overall, its a solid bet for a good beard trim, but doesn't offer the kind of barbershop experience that is relaxing and community-building. read more

Great barber shop! Gabriel did a fantastic and detailed job with my hair. I don't speak Italian, but it was all good because Gabriel speaks good English. The shave was close, yet gentle. They have many different shave packages to choose from starting at 18 euro. The music ranges from 50's Elvis style rock n roll, to early era punk. I would highly recommend this place for an affordable quality cut. Ask for Gabriel; he's detailed. read more

This is an old fashioned barbershop where you get a great cut and shave. My buddy and I decided to treat ourselves and weren't disappointed. The barbers are dressed as if it were the 40's with period chairs and decor. My buddy's barber spoke English and immediately figured out he wanted a short flat top. My barber didn't speak English, but between my Italian and pictures after a haircut and beard trim/shave, he knew exactly what to do. They are all meticulous in their work, and considering how well groomed and dressed Italian men are, it explains why this place is so busy on a Saturday in a residential area. They have 3 or 4 other shops elsewhere. Unless you're planning to go very early in the day, make an appointment. You should specify if it's one or two services, so the appointment girl books enough time. (She also does an occasional shampoo--included in the price, and will bring you coffee, water or beer while you're waiting for your appointment.) The place is not cheap by American standards, but significantly less than the better shops in Manhattan. Too bad they're so far from home or they'd be my regular shop.i read more

My husband waited till we got to Rome on our vacation to get his haircut, so he could hopefully get a cut by someone who could handle his wavy hair (he's struggled for years to find someone back home who can cut his hair the right way). We both agree that Vittorio gave him the best haircut he's ever had (and did so effortlessly)! We wanted his hair to require minimal styling, and it definitely does now! Also, the atmosphere of the shop is awesome; everyone who works there is very friendly and personable. They offered us beer or coffee upon arrival, and had delicious little cookies for me to munch on while I waited for my husband. Terrible! Avoid it. How they screwed up my blade 1 all over is amazing. I went here because it had a 4.5 star rating. I asked for a blade 1 all over. Initially it looked fine but I wasn't wearing my glasses. When I got back to my hotel I noticed he had missed large chunks of hair on the top and back (still had hairs of 1 inch plus). I had to go back and have him redo it. The next day I wake up and now I'm noticing that he totally screwed up the symmetry. There is a huge chuck on my left side where he obviously had a hand slip with the trimmer. It's like a V shape into the hairline. So disappointed that such a simple haircut could be screwed up so much. I even tipped the guy 5 Euros before I left the first time (because I actually happen to be a nice, positive person). Worst haircut I have even gotten - and perhaps the most expensive too (22 Euros) for a blade cut. I will be contesting the charge on my AMEX. read more

I get some good cuts at my local barber shop back home but let me tell you, I got the best haircut I've ever gotten here by my man Loris-but it looked like any barber in this establishment can take care of you. One barber spoke English very well so getting the cut I wanted wasn't an issue. Haircut, beard trim and straight razor shave for €44 which ain't bad. I debated between places and am so glad I chose them! They can give you a modern fade or taper as that is what I was looking for and I guarantee you won't be disappointed oh I also walked in but I went just before noon on a weekday and didn't have to wait long at all. My husband needed a haircut while we were in Rome and we looked on Yelp for recommendations. Machete is very close to where we are staying so he decided to give it a try. He would go here regularly if we lived in Rome! He was taken without an appointment although they were pretty busy. Both of us were offered a beer or a coffee immediately. The staff spoke limited English but it was enough to understand what my husband wanted done. His haircut was perfect! Thousands of miles away from my home barber and needed a haircut desperately! I called and made an appointment for same day, same hour and had Enrico hook me up with a comb over fade just like home. He spoke good English, shampooed my hair before and after my cut for $28. I even bought some hair product from him, total tab came out to $40. Tip if you like, but wasn't mandatory nor felt pressured. At home I pay $30 including tip, so thought it was very reasonable. read more
