A small train station with limited facilities, but still serving the town well,
Macclesfield Railway Station is managed by Avanti West Coast (It is on the London-Manchester line via Stoke on-Trent), other services through here are operated by CrossCountry or Northern, most services do go within Cheshire and Stoke on-Trent, with many others extending to the likes of Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, London and Reading.
I'm not sure what's going on with the timetable but they seemed to have 3 trains per clock hour (for example between 16:00 and 16:59) all in the space of 20 minutes, I get when the services start and finish at different destinations it can be hard, but this just seemed rather odd, as if you plan to get the last train of the three, you'd have a long wait for another compared to if you missed one of the first two.
The staff seemed friendly enough at the station and happy to help, that's pretty common with Avanti anyway who are doing a good job at running the WCML.
The station was clean, there were limited ticket facilities (manned ticket desk, but limited ticket machines to pick-up tickets and I didn't notice any ticket barriers)
Buses do serve the station from outside, I do think better signage into the town centre is required as I ended up getting lost on my first visit, and it is pretty easy to do the same even with GPS.
