Was a 2020 senior at Meade High School and to say the least it is not the best high school I've…read morebeen to. As a military kid I have experienced 4 high schools and this one was the worst, even worse than my Oklahoma high school. It is not new kid friendly, staff were very condescending towards me when I was trying to fight for the credits they did not want to accept. Staff is condescending in all aspects actually. They treat students as though they are scum. The education here was terrible as well and they lied to me about having health classes. Setting me back on my health career journey, knowing full well i could have found a high school that catered to my academic needs. To any military considering sending their children here I would recommend finding a more welcoming and friendly school. This school is very ghetto and overall was a horrible experience. I'm glad I only had to experience one year at this horrific school.

The school isn't the best overall, but you can get something out if it if you try. My son went here…read moreall 4 years and had no problems. He has a good head on his shoulders and makes good decisions. He was involved in a number of the specialty programs: JROTC, PLTW ( engineering), AVID, and took a number of honors classes. He also surrounded himself with good people that he mostly met through sports. His entire time he was on the wrestling and lacrosse teams. He's graduating with a GPA that's 3.5 or better and has been accepted to college. Some of it depends on the child. My daughter is 2 years younger and has an IEP. I would never her send her here bc it's too big, lacks structure, and there are too many negative influence.

So make sure that you quickly form a routine that works best with your schedule, especially if you're student is in K-5. I don't say this as a bad thing, but it is something to be noted. The SOTI staff was great, their system keeps parent in the loop of whats going on in classes, and also with homework and events. My child had her favorites when it comes to teachers, but I try to explain that there is no one style of teaching. Sometimes you get a teacher that just seems to get you, and other times you get a teacher that others may love, but you don't connect with their method of teaching. It happens... We started out child at SOTI in the 4th grade, and there was definitely a bit of a learning curve that they had to overcome to catch up with the curriculum. I feel like SOTI is about 1 year ahead of the county schools. We definitely had to be hands on with helping play catch up, and the teachers met with us regularly for support. Even though we only stayed for 1 year. Our time here made a huge difference, that I can still see in our child's development. For new students coming in, the summer programs give the kids a chance to make friends before the school year starts. Events like the Father/Daughter dance and Gala give parents a chance to be social with and without the kids. We made so many new friends during out time at SOTI, parting ways wasn't any easy decision to make.

If you email with any concerns about your child you most likely won't even get a response. If you email enough times you may get a generic response passing the buck. On more than one occasion we got emails with another child's name where they copied and pasted a generic response to another parent and didn't even bother to proof read and change the name.
