This is a solid choice if you are in Alexandria…read more For the last year and a half or so I have had to travel to Alexandria for work. I have been staying at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express but after a few issues at HIE, I decided to give Hampton a try. The good: My room was clean and comfortable and check-in was easy. The free breakfast in the morning was good as free breakfasts come. There appeared to be some sort of evening reception with drinks and snacks but I didn't get to participate. The hotel was also reasonably quiet which was impressive considering how close it was to 49. The rest: My room was set to 78 when I arrived. 78 is way too warm for a hotel room. This was probably some sort of cost-saving thing but I like my rooms as cold as humanly possible. It got that cold but it took a while. The hotel is kind of far from the city center which is where the restaurants and my work is. It's kind of far for Alex which means a 10-15 minute ride depending on traffic. Where I normally stayed was less than five minutes but all in all, it really wasn't that bad. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. I still prefer the HI downtown since it is more of a full service hotel (it has a bar) and is closer to my work, but I would definitely keep Hampton on your list.

Maxine is by far, the best, most accommodating, fun-loving front desk concierge I have met. Ever. I am usually greeted well at Hamptons. But she just puts the right spin and personality welcome into it. I had what I consider to be a minor issue. I asked Maxine for help. Immediately and professionally solved. Maxine = 5 stars Hampton premises at this location = 4 stars this time.

There were numerous occasions where customers walking through the lobby weren't wearing masks and weren't asked to put them on. The other gripe is, I don't think the cleaning crew are doing a very good job of cleaning the rooms. There were boogers on the walls/doors in the bathroom and hallway. I was scared to pay closer attention anywhere else in the room because of what I might find. Overall, 3 stars for location and friendly staff, but please work on cleaning the rooms better...

The check in process was super quick and we were given complimentary bottles of water. The room was modern and most importantly very clean. Everything worked and nothing was falling apart. There was a sofa bed that my sister slept on and a curtain for privacy at night between mine and my husband's bed and her sofa bed. There was a kitchenette that had everything from a fridge to a dishwasher. The kitchenette was stocked with dishes and silverware. There was also an indoor pool which was a big plus with a 2 year old. The water was a bit cold, but we managed. There are 2 things that caused me to take one star away. 1. The bathroom door- the bathroom door was a sliding door that did not lock. It did not secure in a way that allowed for complete privacy which makes it awkward when staying in a room with other people. 2. Breakfast- We were given times for the hot breakfast. We went down stairs expecting hot food like scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, stuff like that. My son loves breakfast so I thought this would be perfect. There were frozen omelets and a frozen English muffin sandwich to put in the microwave. Apparently this was the hot breakfast. My son did not eat. Overall I would definitely stay here again.

Good TV with cable channels. Small closet with ironing board, coat hangers, iron. Very comfortable bed! The sheets & comforter were such fabrics that they nicely stayed together over tossing sleepers. But: Room entry door makes a bang noise for one person to use while the other is sleeping. Bathroom: Light and bright--wonderful for brushing teeth, blow-drying hair. Perfect powerful hair blow dryer--not the usually mini type found in hotels. But...No occupant control over the humidity from shower -- uses only the HVAC ducting vent. Toilet was only standard height, not the comfort height which more people can use; was told the hotel does not have any comfort-height toilets. Both Room & Bathroom: Bring your own lamp or lighted makeup mirror for enough light to apply makeup. I tried two different types of hand lights that did not help. Unclear services of what service is offered when for making bed, getting clean towels & coffee bar. Breakfast: Cook Paul was very conscientious, constantly busy refilling the foods & drinks & cleaning. On the day this hotel offered bacon, he produced the BEST VERY CRISP BACON ever! Paul had the knack for eyeballing the perfect ratio of old-fashioned oats to water--wonderful healthy oatmeal every day he was there. Bold coffee and 3 flavorings were great! Complimentary coffee during non-breakfast hours. But not one fruit included or to buy separately, so bring your own fruit if desired. With only one machine, we witnessed one guest hogging the machine, making multiple waffles in a row, and another guest needing to plan his time wisely, asked how many waffles she was going to make, and she erupted into a raised, angry voice for all there to hear. . .such "Waffle Rage" suggests needing two waffle machines. Fridge &/or Freezer: It froze items needing only refrigeration. Unclear if it was a fridge or freezer or both. So when bringing your own fruit, be aware it may freeze when put in this "fridge &/or freezer." Management: This property is managed by an extremely conscientious, dedicated manager--was there every day in a row working. Is aware of improvements needed and makes conscious budget decisions to time the improvements. The entire hotel is smoke free! Desk clerks know and practice the best of Southern Hospitality--kudos shout out to Ms. Kenya!!! Lobby: A pleasant living-room-like design, where guests may sit & await others to arrive. Landscaping: Beautiful blooming roses. Well-trimmed bushes. This "4" rating of less than max "5" is based on the high priority to lighting and noise level.

During a trip to my home city in both January and July, we stayed at Fairfield Inn & Suites. Both…read morevisits were great. We booked with ease through Booking when we stayed at the beginning of the year. Which silly me, that didn't give me any points through my Marriot Bonvoy app. However, it did give me Booking points/perks. Overall weekend was 252.77 not bad at all. During the most recent visit, there were baseball tournaments going on so many of those people had booked the hotel up. We stayed Saturday to Sunday from July 5th through July 6th. That was a stay for about 143 and some change. We also asked about early check in and that was honored for 25 bucks. Easy to call or use the chat within the app. They charged it all to the card on file. Ms. Jennifer at the front desk whom we love is very personable and attentive. She is very helpful and kind. We treated her to some yummy coffee from Tamp & Grind on Sunday morning since she'd never been! Thank you for all of your help and for having a warm spirit. Shoutout to her again because she updated us to a suite! Rooms are nice and overall clean. The one thing that Fairfield doesn't have is a safe. Thought that was strange because this is the second hotel recently with no safe. Unless I overlooked it, I didn't see it. Other staff is nice as well. As far as other amenities they have the gym, pool, breakfast each day with continental items and hot breakfast items. We typically don't make it because...alcohol. But it does exist and it's complimentary. Will always be the hotel of choice when visiting home. Centrally located too. Stay here or don't because we don't want it to be booked up haha

But the price is quite a bit lower than the plus BWs so no stars off for that. There were a LOT of sketchy people milling around..... I wonder how many car prowls and breakins they have here. Just one employee that I could see so even if they have cameras all over the place (I saw none outside) there's no way the desk clerk would have time to monitor them. The room was fine. Comfortable and well appointed. No complaints. There is some major repairs (or demolition) going on...... I probably wouldn't stay here again but unless you are fussy about upscale stays this motel is fine if all you need is a place to spend the night. There is a pretty decent 24 hour restaurant across the parking lot.

At no point during booking, in the confirmation email, or anywhere on the listing was there any mention of a $250 cash deposit requirement for local guests. I was only informed of this policy after arriving and attempting to check in. Because of this undisclosed policy, I had to cancel my reservation on the spot and am now waiting for $107 to be refunded back to my account. For many people, having over $100 tied up unexpectedly is a serious inconvenience. What makes this even more frustrating is that I have stayed at 4-star hotels in New Orleans that charged significantly less for both the room and incidental deposit than this property. Charging a $250 deposit on an $88 room is excessive, especially when that information is not disclosed upfront before payment is taken. I understand hotels have the right to create policies for local guests, but those policies should be clearly and transparently listed before someone books and travels to the property. Springing a major undisclosed charge on guests at check-in is unacceptable customer service. As the widow of an Air Force veteran, and the daughter and granddaughter of veterans, I have traveled extensively and stayed in many hotels over the years. I have never encountered a situation where a deposit policy of this size was completely omitted from the booking information and only revealed after arrival. I strongly encourage future guests -- especially locals -- to call the property directly before booking and ask specifically whether there are additional local-resident deposits not shown online.
