We shared starters of garlic prawns, bruschetta with sun-dried tomato and pesto, and some pate on toast. They were produced pretty quick which was good as we were pretty hungry. You can get a good Shiraz red wine and a Pinot Grigio white at about 18.50 each which is good value also. Four of us had pizzas of different filling types. The bases are thin and crusty and were well made as this is their speciality for take-away also. The other two of us had pasta dishes, one a tagliatelle with smoked bacon, garlic & mushrooms, the other a penne with beef steak strips (deglazed with Irish Whiskey whatever that means?), also with mushrooms and coriander. The steak pieces were a bit chewy though. All dishes were cleared and all enjoyed their fare. Coffees all round and our bill was €170 which was easily affordable.

But i have to admit HANDS DOWN this is my favorite place in the world to eat fish and chips. The twin husband and wife team that run this restaurant are extremely friendly and welcoming people. Its a small place that has several sit down tables to dine in. The fish and chips is one you have to try for yourself but for me its a place i crave al year long and a must visit spot when i return to Ireland. If you ever find yourself in the area please visit pipers and when done take a quick stroll next door and have a few pints at The Brooke Irish Pub.

We found a parking spot right outside the takeaway at no.3, Fairways Mall -- perfect! -- and, with a bit of manoeuvring, got the campervan into the space, well within the road markings (it's a medium size campervan). With that, a man got out of the car in the next space, and proceeded to lambast me for parking there, saying that I was blocking access to the takeaway. It turned out that he was one of the drivers of the takeaway. I got out and checked, and I had left plenty of room, and told him so; and furthermore, informed him that the campervan was taxed and insured, and that I was fully entitled to park where I was, on the public road. I then asked him why he had not negotiated with me when he first saw my initial manoeuvrings. No response. With that, the lady proprietor of the takeaway came out, and screamed at me to "get that van out of there, it is too big." Attempts at explanation of parking bye-laws were ignored (we would only have been there for the time it took to prepare the meal, after all). All I got was a repeated "Get out, get out", which made me all the more determined to stay put........until my niece told me that her young son was getting an asthma attack, with all the excitement. So, reluctantly, I moved away. Needless to say, I didn't give them my custom after that little episode, and if you are driving in Donabate in a campervan and fancy a Chinese takeaway, my advice is to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other, more welcoming, establishments in the area.
